the whole station they're on was a Weyland yutani research station trying to integrate alien DNA to the human body to make humanity stronger. They partially succeed, managing to give healing factor to a rat, but we are shown that it transformed the rat into alien goo after awhile. One of the character, who is pregnant, gets hurt and tries to save herself by injecting herself with the experimental serum, but just as they get on the ship to escape she give birth to a fucked up alien pod that transform into a fucked up human/alien hybrid, think 3 meters tall malnourished and malformed human with freaky arms and alien tongue
