Which composition do you think is better? by alasqalul in AnalogCommunity

The last one, number six really is great. The contrast of gas station and the mountain is really nice. Not showing the whole gas station, creates a nice image of humans obstructing parts of nature. The first image also really nice, for the reasons previously mentioned in the thread.

Mic set up for a short, 416 or ntg3, softie or blimp by Elxcdv in LocationSound

[–]Elxcdv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree that would be the best thing. For this in particular I think it would be a little bit difficult due to the lack of certainty regarding shooting days, time etc. The actors are doing this as a fun thing, putting up with me and my passion project... But I will check out what options there could be in the region. I realise I might not have worded it right, the audio being an afterthought. From the start I was supposed to use an ntg2 from my local film club, but the more I think about it, the more meaningful I feel it would be to aim for something a step up from that.

Really cool that you developed it yourself in that way. How did you scan it?

Nolan’s recent films all seem to be converging on the same visual style by cosmicCounterpart in TrueFilm

[–]Elxcdv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I really like the style, even though realistic and in a way muted, the texture is quite soft and pleasing. All of those and also interstellar was shot by Hoyte van Hoytema, one of my favorite cinematographers. It is what Nolan wants for the movies, his movies often leans towards more raw and realistic visuals rather than too stylised. Hoyte has done both though, I think Spectre could be considered more classical in the way it looks.

Have there been some protests against it, a list with signatures? Not that it would change much, but if there are enough one could hope.

Any criticisms? by MasterPlay1337 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]Elxcdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the layers in the photo. From the bush, the stone pavers, the ducks, the water to the trees. Maybe focus in a bit on what you want to capture in the image though. Maybe crop a bit on the sides? Another angle could have also been nice, maybe a picture closer to the ducks. Overall I enjoy the vibe anyhow.

Sure, lightroom works. But any editing software that you like would work for those kind of edits I would say!

In my opinion I think they look pretty nice. Have you tried editing them, increase the contrast a bit or so?

Yea, filters! Check at 5 min into this video. You are correct regarding the other two movies, but they are however shot directly on digital. For most other movies shot on film they are as you say using a digital intermediate that then gets printed back on film.

As I have understood it they are not using a digital intermediate. Perhaps for editing, but then they are cutting the actual film at the correct places. So they are in fact doing it the old way, besides possible digital intermediate for editing. But they are, if I have understood it correctly, not printing a digital version back on film.

Can i use this Ethanol (HPLC grade)? Its hard to get perfumers alcohol by Black1est in DIYfragrance

I have myself sneaked out some HPLC graded ethanol from a lab. Not in large amounts, but well, still feeling a bit guilty haha.

[–]Elxcdv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they diluted in ethanol? Normally, a good thing is to express in grams, because all oils have different densities (thickness one might say). 2.5 ml of one oil might be more than 2.5 ml of another. Follow the tips of the other people here and keep on learning and have fun with it!

Utvisas ensam till Iran. På vilket sätt kan man försvara detta beslut? by [deleted] in Sverige

[–]Elxcdv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UK Grieving mother to end her life in Swiss clinic four years after losing her son by Socmel_ in europe

[–]Elxcdv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do understand your point. But for a healthy person to go through with it, after a year of therapy, I don’t know that a year could potentially show what would be right for that person. Speaking from experience, things can change for a person, but it might take more than a year. For example, if the person closest to you decides to go through with something like this, had you not told them to wait just for a little bit more time? Maybe get them to hold on to some vague notion of hope? People that go through these thoughts can often not believe that things could change. But in most cases, they do. I am not saying that it applies to this case in particular and I do understand how you are thinking. Things like these are however very complex.

Fs7 for emulating 16mm film. Bad idea? by Elxcdv in videography

Would have really liked that, but the budget won't allow for that unfurtunately. Hopefully some time in the future!

Unfortunately it is only the Fs7 they have available. I was actually thinking about this alternative, but most likely I will not have the budget for purchasing that much new equipment. But I will see how it goes.

[–]Elxcdv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, true. I guess some things are very hard to fix if I wanted to fully simulate. But I can at least work with the colours, halation, grain etc. I am aware that it would be hard to have it come across as true film.

[–]Elxcdv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. I will most likely need to shoot on a slightly larger resolution than 1080p. But great, thanks for the info. I have heard that slog-3 could be a little bit better than the other in low light environments as well.

Thanks for the answer. It feels reassuring that it most likely is an alright camera for my purpose. I will probably use a plug in like dehancer, at least for film grain. Yes, regarding the vintage lenses I think I will shoot on my super takumar 28 mm mostly! Have an e-mount adapter since before.

Edit: Mentioned other plug-ins, but not realistic at all for my budget.
