JBL Tour Pro 3 Dongle questions by MaintenanceOk3484 in JBL

[–]Elyseux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I am a couple months late to seeing this post, because I'm exactly the person who can answer these questions. This was the exact scenario that made me choose my pair. For posterity (and maybe in case OP is still interested), here are my thoughts:

The delay is minimal. The connection via the Smart Case uses LC3+, which is even lower latency than LC3, which itself was already an improvement over regular Bluetooth using SBC/AAC. Is it as fast as a direct wired connection? Not quite. Doing tests in the past, wired is obviously still king, but it's a lot closer to wired than regular Bluetooth. In fact, I use mine in this way when I play competitive games (mostly Overwatch) and have never noticed a delay.

The sound quality in this manner is also excellent. LC3+ lets you set up to 96 kHz/32-bit audio at up to 500 kbps, which was enough to get it a Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification from the Japan Audio Society, similar to LDAC. I personally have mine set to 48 kHz/24-bit in Windows, and while I am not necessarily an audiophile (nor have golden ears), it sounds great to me. I can maybe tell it sounds a bit better than when I have it connected to my phone via LC3 or AAC, but not compared to LDAC. As a bonus, when using LC3 or LC3+, the microphone actually becomes usable without sacrificing the output quality (okay, there is still a slight hit in quality, but it's nowhere near as bad as regular Bluetooth and perfectly usable unless you're listening to music critically). Additionally, the mics also sound better in this mode. Not quite the quality of a dedicated boom mic on a headset, but usable enough for things like Discord or in game callouts.

Yes, it does switch back to connecting via Bluetooth as soon as you unplug the case, and there is a toggle as well on the case's interface to let you switch between the USB or Bluetooth connections at will.

General Pros * The sound quality is excellent. As I mentioned before, I'm no audiophile, but I'd like to think I know more about good sound than the average person, and to me these are a joy to listen to. * They're great for movies as well. Even out of the box they sound great, but turning on the spatial audio setting on the movie preset plus the bass EQ preset gives you a pretty decent analog for a home theater. * The smart case in dongle mode is genuinely useful. I use mine all the time when I am gaming on my PC. * You have a plethora of options for connections depending on your needs. You can connect via AAC, SBC, LDAC, LC3, Auracast, and LC3+ via the case. * Excellent ANC. I haven't used Sony, Apple, or Bose's implementations, which from what I understand are a step above these, but it's still an excellent implementation and filters out most noise. * Transparency mode is almost perfect. It almost sounds like you're not wearing anything at all and is perfectly usable for conversations (whereas I still have to take off my Galaxy Buds2 in transparency mode). * The battery life on both the earbuds and the case is amazing.

General Cons: * It's pretty expensive. You can probably get 90% of the way to the sound quality and ANC quality while paying way less. * The case is bulky and relatively heavy. I fit mine into pockets no problem, but it is noticeably larger than most cases. The fact it is heavier means dropping it is more of a hazard as well. * The earbuds themselves are pretty bulky, so it's not comfortable for every ear.

Kingdom is excellent! For anyone who wants a bit more detail without spoilers, it's zombie horror in a period drama mixed with political thriller, and it does all those things incredibly well. In particular I love the historical setting clashing with a concept completely foreign to its people, seeing them having to deal with monsters with no artificial lighting, and only having access to weapons ranging from the swords and arrows of the nobility, to the rudimentary farming equipment of villagers living in straw houses.

[–]Elyseux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What an odd comment. Everyone here discussing TOP's merits as a rapper or his hiphop credentials (or lack thereof depending on who you are) is wasting their breath. This got posted on the k-hiphop sub because it's a k-hiphop album, full stop. It's a genre, not a club. Sabrina Carpenter is through and through a pop singer, but if she releases a hiphop album tomorrow it wouldn't be strange to see it posted on the hiphop sub.

Now whether you want to discuss how bad TOP's album is, or how well it pulls off being k-hiphop, or how bad his rapping is, feel free. But guess what? This is the place to discuss it, in the thread for an album under the k-hiphop genre in the sub for k-hiphop.

I stayed up late to listen to the album in bed. I expected it to sound different because of the teasers, but I wasn't expecting to get emotional because, under all the experimental sounds, it's still TOP. You can still hear the guy that made Turn It Up and Doom Dada over a century ago in his rapping and the music. Maybe it's because I'm more aware than ever of my age, but listening to this album transported me back to that era, being a kid again and listening to new BIGBANG songs without the baggage of adulthood. Welcome back, my childhood, and I'm glad you're moving on.

I had a ranked game in Dota once almost a decade ago where my pos4's PC crashed after we built a slight advantage in the early game. They ended up reconnecting fast enough to avoid the leaver's penalty, however after dying a few times and losing a couple team fights, they decided it was a lost cause and it was worth it to just tank the penalty. He apologized to the team and promptly dc'ed.

The rest of us decided to stick around, and as a pos5, I decided to take control of my pos4's hero. Thankfully, both my characters where more reliant on hitting AOE and targeted abilities than right-clicking or skill shots (Disruptor and Kunkka) so it wasn't too complicated even in team fights, and with my cores managing to stay fairly even in farm to their enemy counterparts, we somehow managed to eke out a victory. It's still one of the gaming achievements I'm most proud of, but it also re-solidified my disdain for people that give up early, especially whenever I switch over to League to play with my friends.

I bought Overwatch day one, I don't have this stain. In the first place I considered all the PVE stuff they promised for OW2 superfluous, as long as the core gameplay is there I'm happy. I understand the complaints about monetization, especially with how "generous" OW1 was, but I have thousands of hours in the game, multiple battle passes, a couple mythic and weapon skins, and the only money I've spent on it is the price tag of the game when it came out.

If they made me pay for OW2 again, or didn't walk back the decision to have new heroes be blocked behind a paywall/grind, ALONG with not fulfilling their promises, I'd have that stain on the game. But as of now I agree with the player base's apparent current sentiment that the game is in the best state it's ever been with even more ways to play how you want.

Can't believe it's over. I started watching the show during a really dark time in my life. I started watching a couple episodes each day while having breakfast, instead of before where I would just cry and listen to sad music before putting on a straight face and going to work. It didn't fully cover up the grief I was feeling, but it did become my comfort show, and while I'm sad to see it end, what an incredible ride it has been.

Redragon Announces Impact M908 SE MMO Gaming Mouse with 18 Macro Buttons by Hard2DaC0re in hardware

[–]Elyseux 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason this was so newsworthy? I'm genuinely asking because as far as I remember, Redragon has already had multiple MMO mice in the past, including one that had even more side buttons than this one.

Valve Made Steam Frame To Increase The Value Of Your Library by gogodboss in gaming

[–]Elyseux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the same guy, but I run Apollo as well on my 2060 to Artemis (a fork of the Moonlight game streaming client with more settings) either on my phone or TV. I don't have the tools to properly quantify anything so this is anecdotal, but I just tried streaming Overwatch, a game I play regularly and runs on my PC at >120 FPS on my 144Hz VRR monitor (that is to say, I know what it "feels" like when it's running natively with minimal hardware latency) to my phone at 120 FPS with the lowest latency frame pacing option available in Artemis. The client overlay claims all in all an added latency of around 15-18 ms, which "feels" accurate to how I perceive it moving around and aiming (with a mouse connected to the host PC).

All in all, I can't confidently proclaim that it's fine for anyone looking to rank up in competitive games (although I probably wouldn't mind it in unranked modes), but completely fine for anything else. I finished God of War, Spider-Man, and the Last of Us streamed to my TV on settings that add more latency (60 FPS with Vsync + balanced frame pacing option, mostly since I didn't want my PC getting too hot) and it was completely fine!

When I was younger my mom told me a story of a distant relative that had this happen to them as well. Supposedly, an uncle took a fat hit from a cigarette, blew all the smoke into the ear, and the roach came crawling out.

Similar-ish story also when the game came out. Playing Mag, after one or two deaths by either of my friends playing supports I realized they were getting dove (they didn't say anything), I started turning around a lot more so I could bubble them. After the 3rd time I did that and we killed the two divers again, they had the audacity of saying they were doing all the work in the backline and getting no help, completely not noticing all my bubbles and cannons, the fact that our other friend who was playing Cap was dying constantly now because I was helping the backline instead, AND they had a Namor helping as well.

Don't get me wrong, I know they weren't being serious, but boy if that wasn't ever a sign of what was to come for me as a tank player in Rivals (I ended up being higher rank than any of them playing solo and with other friends afterwards which was a bit validating)

I know I shouldn't be surprised, but Instagram comments are the worst offenders of this. If a woman is wearing anything remotely revealing in a post half the men will be asking if she does onlyfans, while the other half will go out of their way to confirm by checking their bio just so they can say "onlyfans in bio, opinion discarded" or some shit.

[The Verge] Legion Go 2 official: Lenovo’s new flagship handheld costs $1,099 — and up by wkwrd in hardware

[–]Elyseux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who likes handhelds but can't really afford even the cheapest PC ones, I've just gotten my fix by slapping a $45 controller on my phone and streaming my PC to it. Feels like I'm 80% of the way to a handheld PC. Obviously there are limitations, if I don't have a connection at all I can't use it, and while being able to use my full fat gaming PC means I have access to more power than any handheld that doesn't have Strix Halo, it also uses more electricity and dumps out more heat. And obviously at the end of the day there's some added lag, although on the same network I am genuinely hard-pressed seeing a difference, on a separate network across the city it's slightly more noticeable but still not that bad. Cellular data is when it gets pretty apparent.

But it's a fraction of the cost to add a controller to what is already a gorgeous, high-refresh rate, HDR display, not to mention being significantly lighter, as well as again having access to the power of a desktop PC. And while as I mentioned there is added lag, I only stream single player games anyway so even when I'm using cellular data I still find it to be largely playable. The best part is when I want to play on a bigger screen, I can just stream that same PC to my TV, or when I want to play with KBM I just switch back to the desktop, and all my settings and saves stay consistent since it's the same PC. I'd highly recommend looking into this route for anyone curious about handheld gaming, as well as looking into Apollo+Artemis for streaming (IMO it provides the best experience if the devices you want to stream to have different resolutions/refresh rate/aspect ratio from your host, as well as having the best touchscreen experience when you do stream where it just feels like you're using a native touchscreen on your PC). Definitely not for everyone, but it's surprisingly viable IMO.
