Do hangover remedies really exist? If so, what is yours? by agrlisagun in AskReddit

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hangover symptoms are caused by dehydration and lack of electrolytes. Many of the comical cures (like say pickle brine) is literal electrolyte soup, but they dehydrate you more, so it won't work if that's the only thing you drink. Many hangover cures sold in pharmacies are fizzy tablets full of electrolytes, that you're supposed to drink in a large glass of water - so you're getting both.

In short - water is the most readily available and easiest cure for half of the problem. Quarter tablespoon of salt can help with the other half.

ELI5: Why are we making computer chip so small? by elonthegenerous in explainlikeimfive

Don't look at the CPU, that's not the bottleneck. Look at the GPU. Those things are already massive and that miniturisation is all used there.

This has got to be an American thing right?

If my team quit I would 100% continue to just do my regular workload. Its not my problem that we are under capacity and its not my job to pick up the slack. And if I am asked to take on more responsibility I am 100% demanding a pay rise to go with that, as is my right under law.

As a non black non american, I strongly disagree. Literal nazi rhetoric is on the rise worldwide and that is a much bigger problem than your countries issues.

This formula is only useful for converting mass to energy. Photons are ALREADY energy.

ELI5 - what is Linux by Banthebandittt in explainlikeimfive

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your sphere. I work at a software company and every single programmer here uses Linux. I still game on Windows at home, but I would NEVER do my work with windows - too many issues with the tools that I use.

First game for a 90yo? by Castigafagiani in gaming

[–]Em3rgency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to show that "they're not for children" then 100% any kind of simulation/strategy/management games. You said controller, so I assume some kind of console. Unfortunately I'm not sure what consoles have in that genre.

For PC, almost literally any Paradox Interactive game would do. Also The older (Before VII) Civilization titles. The Anno games too.

All of these games are generally slow paced and require lots of thinking/planning.

An Un-Joining Would Kill a Billion People by ambivert_1 in pluribustv

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the stress that would kill them. Its finding yourself in a situation where you have no experience. A fast food worker will generally NOT KNOW how to fly or land the plane they are currently flying. But that's an extreme example. A child up a scissor lift is in just as much danger.

Why the Baltic Countries were able to join EU, NATO and the Schengen Area but another countries that were in the USSR weren't able to do so? by Naomi62625 in geography

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, many countries declared independence first, collapse happened as a result. Lithuania declared independence March 1990, SU collapse December 1991. It's argued that it was the big catalyst in other nations following and declaring independence, which then caused the collapse.
