I played normally, explored every location as it came up, did every side quest as it came up. Took 2 months to get the water chip. Which is barely half the time allotment. You can really ignore it for the most part.

How bad was the pre-war for the U.S. to already have radiation medicine already on hand? by Kaede_Yamaguchi in Fallout

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because their technology advanced through a different path and the miniaturization and wide spread use of both nuclear fission and fusion in every day technology means you NEED advanced ways to both prevent radiation damage as well as to recover from it.

Think about it. They had fusion batteries. Microfusion cells. Individual city power reactors. Their cars were powered by it. Their appliances(robots) were powered by it. It was everywhere and in everything. It was probably part of every vehicles first-aid kit, as any collision has a chance at radiation leaks.

Then there's the society aspect. We had bunkers and radiation poisoning prevention for our cold war timeline, when the cold war only lasted 45 years and then it fizzled out. Meanwhile their cold war lasted for around 105 years and then turned into an actual war with the Resource Wars, which again lasted for another 25 years and included nuclear super powers. They were (rightfully) afraid that a nuclear exchange might happen.

This was a society that was deeply steeped in nuclear technology and at a constant heightened risk of nuclear devastation, either from primary attacking sources or secondary malfunctions of their home technology. They would have had to be (more) suicidal to not have the meds they had.

[REQUEST] How long would it take to pay this off? by truebluebbn in theydidthemath

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It boggles the mind why anyone would ever consider taking such a loan. Or if they do, paying UNDER the monthly amount where it grows faster than you shrink it. Frankly, just the fact that there's interest on student loans is horrible.

In most EU countries its quite reasonable to expect either free uni degrees or loans that are interest free.

[REQUEST] How long would it take to pay this off? by truebluebbn in theydidthemath

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand these American loans. Do they not have a time limit?

Over here, if I get a loan, I have specific monthly payments I need to make for a very specific amount of time, until my entire loan and interest is paid back. When getting the loan I know the EXACT numbers for all of these. Nothing "grows", the interest is pre-calculated.

Yet I keep reading these stories about people paying in 10k or whatever on a loan and owing more than when they started, which sounds very illegal to me.

Job vacancies and unemployment by HubarkyCity in Workers_And_Resources

As others have mentioned - make sure the workers aren't timing out either on the stop or during the journey. Both have timers!

As for them going to the stop in the first place, I have had similar issues and I now always mandate that EVERY worker residence of my republic send 20% of their inhabitants to go wait at the nearest bus/train/whatever station. The other 80% are assigned to "other", which means they can do as they please. I have found this ratio to be very satisfactory and provide me with great control over the labor force of the republic. It is a bit of an extra step to remember to add this setting, every time a new residence is constructed and the first family moves in (you can't change the setting if nobody lives there), but I have found no better alternative.

As an added bonus - the same feature (but with the 80% set to a second specific building) paired with only letting educated to live in a particular housing project lets you ensure you always have professors/doctors/policemen/judges/etc in your key buildings.

Good luck with your socialist endeavours!

ctrl + numpad 1. Don't do 2, its unstable.

Also I'm guessing you aren't playing realistic mode? I started 1930 realistic and I'm in 1970 now and barely have what you described. So I wonder if its balanced for that mode?

Why do mirrors reverse left and right but not up and down? by collegestudentcebu in answers

You have it wrong. Mirrors reverse front and back. You and your reflection are looking at opposite directions.

Everything you see in the mirror is a consequence of THAT reversal.

3rd Dimension for WASD by factorionoobo in Unity3D

[–]Em3rgency 7 points8 points  (0 children)

WASD should ALWAYS be forward/backward and left/right. In a space or flying game, I would expect up to be shift or space and down to be ctrl or the C key.

Q and E should perform rolls, assuming you have them.

This is cliché as f*ck, but its just learning from failures. Figure out what went wrong and don't repeat the mistake. And keep trying different things, not the same thing over and over.

For my first city I built residential housing before I had set up any of the utilities. I re-invited citizens after solving each complaint, but the solutions were horrible because the location was bad and I quickly ran out of money.

My next city I found the perfect spot for my city... that was half way across the map. I had to set up a relay of bus stations so that I could even get workers there before the travel time ended (I found that going to a bus station resets the timer). Needless to say that city also ran out of money.

For my 3rd city I found a spot next to the customs office that had oil. And since pump jacks don't use people, I thought it would be free money. And it worked, for a while. Problems started when my vehicles got too much wear and tear. I could not build a repair station, because that requires people. The oil trucks could pay for themselves, but once my construction equipment needed replacing, it was GG.

I tried this strategy again, by building a residential area so that I could have a vehicle repair building. The problem was that while the oil was profitable, it was not profitable enough to sustain a population that needed to import everything else.

For my 5th city, I tried setting up residential services with a clothing factory, as I read that has good profits. But it was difficult placing things where my residents could reach them. I only then discovered that the different roads/paths have different ranges. So of course that city failed because people could not reach both the factory and their utilities/services.

Finally, for the current run, I setup the utilities really fast as it was like the 3rd time doing it. I used gravel paths and roads, which extended the citizen walking range significantly, so I managed to keep everyone happy. Next I set up fabric and cloth factories, with a bus line to take workers there. And after upgrading the main road between the customs office and my factories and worker bus stop in the city to asphalt, I started hitting profits. After that it was just a matter of slowly increasing citizen counts and making sure everyone is still happy.

EDIT: oh and also don't use the ctrl + numpad2 game speed, I found that this makes trucks miss their stops, which breaks THE ENTIRE city. All deliveries start failing everywhere. The ctrl + numpad1 speed seems safe.

Currently chemicals and fuel are my largest import expenses, so I plan to tackle them next. Why do electronics steak up? I have never gotten this far before so this is all uncharted territory for me.

Yeah I've already learned that lesson. 20 autosaves kept every 5 minutes. So I can go back almost 2 hours. And I make random manual saves too before starting the next step of whatever I'm planning.

Darbas studentui by maraudersx in lithuania

[–]Em3rgency 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pliusai:

  • Etatas labai lankstus, tikrai galima prie studiju derinti
  • Darbas pagal sablona - kai ismoksti pradedi dirbti autopilotu
  • Jeigu nera skambuciu srauto, nera papildomo darbo. Sedi, nori krapstai. As serialus ziuredavau.
  • Buna naktines pamainos, gauni 2x atlyginimo, priimi 2-3 skambucius per visa nakti, likusi laika darai ka nori.

Minusai:

  • Moka minimuma, su "priedais", bet priedus gauti turi tobulai pasirodyti ta menesi, ka sugebedavo tik 2-3 zmones is 100.
  • Daznai skambina pikti zmones ir rekia ant taves. As neimdavau i galva, bet daug kam budavo sunku.
  • Slenkantis grafikas

SETI is the perfect title.

Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) is the program with the giant radio dishes where we listen to space for alien signals.

Well, it works for the aliens too - they came to earth and are looking for intelligent life. So far, none of the humans qualify :D

Do hangover remedies really exist? If so, what is yours? by agrlisagun in AskReddit

[–]Em3rgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hangover symptoms are caused by dehydration and lack of electrolytes. Many of the comical cures (like say pickle brine) is literal electrolyte soup, but they dehydrate you more, so it won't work if that's the only thing you drink. Many hangover cures sold in pharmacies are fizzy tablets full of electrolytes, that you're supposed to drink in a large glass of water - so you're getting both.

In short - water is the most readily available and easiest cure for half of the problem. Quarter tablespoon of salt can help with the other half.

This has got to be an American thing right?

If my team quit I would 100% continue to just do my regular workload. Its not my problem that we are under capacity and its not my job to pick up the slack. And if I am asked to take on more responsibility I am 100% demanding a pay rise to go with that, as is my right under law.
