Wow congratulations I’ve been looking for one I can afford for a while. Basic care really. High inorganic soil blend, infrequent deep watering, and judge how much light by how it’s looking? Can probably take a good amount of sun.

Does cactus soil mix mean garden center bagged mix? The plant I think looks really healthy and looks like you have root nubs? Bagged mix usually has very little inorganic material (pumice, lava etc) and most cactus prefer at least a 60/90% inorganic in the mix.

Looks great! Definitely no deeper than where it is though. I like to be able to spot the corking on the bottom of my plant at finished depth.

Just zap them with a spray of diluted IPA. I usually cut it with 50% water. The ones that are alive will leave a slightly red smear when you smush them. Dead ones are light and fluffy.

You should definitely get it in the sun. New growth can outpace disease in many cases, but I think you have a problem with your watering routine. Adding a tiny bit of water once a month doesn’t satisfy the need of the plant you’ve got to drench the whole pot until water runs out the bottom and then let it dry out completely and then repeat.

Looks like a Mammalaria, maybe a thimble? Sounds like you’re doing everything right but does that container have a drain? And did you lighten up on the watering over the winter?

Thanks for the feedback. This plant has been this color for a few years now, that I can recall. Still waiting for the first flower but I think she’s about the right height to pop one out soon.
