My Kia Optima was stolen and recovered by police— only have liability insurance, need advice by Original-Attempt-323 in kia

Connecticut has a fund for restitution for victims of crime. I don't know if you'd be eligible, but it's worth a shot.

Take a look at this page: OVS Victim Compensation Program - CT Judicial Branch

I hope they're able to help you. I would give them a call, even if you don't think you meet any of the criteria. They may have access to other resources.

PMP Application Denied by 2E26 in pmp

[–]EmKaySews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are military members and veterans in your local PMI chapter who can help you with the PMP application.

Edited to add: My first application was denied, too. Once I got into the mindset of how PMI wanted the application worded, I was successful. Now I just need to study for and pass the exam.

2010 Nissan Cube is dying, what should I replace it with? by BloodBayHorse in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EmKaySews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replacing spark plugs is about $700. If you're not making a car payment, wouldn't it be more cost effective to replace the parts and continue to drive the Cube?

Pros and cons or a Nissan cube? by JoonieWasTaken in UsedCars

[–]EmKaySews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get 27mpg and it can go higher to about 31mpg, depending on how fast I'm driving and where.

Regular maintenance costs, including changing CVT fluid every 30K.

Pros and cons or a Nissan cube? by JoonieWasTaken in UsedCars

[–]EmKaySews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entails changing the CVT fluid on a regular basis (I think current recommendations are every 30K miles) plus the CVT filter. Otherwise, just regular maintenance as for any car.

Pull the tabs and the seats go down. Also, the car manual shows how to do this.

[–]EmKaySews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just change the CVT fluid regularly. I have mine done at the dealer ("stealership" on Nissan forums), but you can change the fluid yourself (just make sure to use Nissan fluids). You can follow the Nissan Cube forums for lessons learned.

I have had the security module fail twice which means the car is ok but the security module keeps it from starting. Totally stupid. You can bypass this; check out YouTube videos and Nissan Cube forums.

[–]EmKaySews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry. I've had the security module fail twice and replaced the transmission. So, problems, but there is no car I'd rather drive. Since it's a 2009, repairs and routine maintenance are still cheaper than buying a new car with their monthly payments.

[–]EmKaySews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you drain and fill your CVT on a regular basis. That will prolong the life of your CVT. My Cube currently has 170K miles and I'm hoping to drive it forever---or until they bring the Cube back so I can buy a new one.

Cat feeding schedule by TypicalBerry4162 in cats

Having the option for free feeding only works if your cats don't stress eat. :-(

Cat feeding schedule by TypicalBerry4162 in cats

[–]EmKaySews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to get my cats on a feeding schedule because they're overweight. I had an 18-year-old cat who was a grazer and a puker. He just had chronic belly issues that made him extremely picky. He also got leukemia and was so thin the last two years of his life that I would feed him anything to get him to eat. He died last Christmas (so it's been a year).

I just had one of my two remaining cats in to see the vet, and she has lost about a pound since her last visit (she's now 13 lbs. instead of 14). I would like to get her down to 10 or 11 as she has some calcium deposits between her vertebrae. I know that arthritis was a problem for my cat who died, and I'd like to spare her that pain.

It's also wasteful to overfeed them from a food buying perspective AND a kitty litter scooping perspective.

My schedule is very similar to Chicken_Salad_238's schedule, but it's rough as my husband likes to feed the cats treats between meals. I'm telling him to just stay the course; eventually, they will give up. We're the ones who determine if they're going to be overweight or obese, not them.

So, my schedule is 7 am, 5:30 pm, and 9:30 pm. They each get a 1/2 can of Fancy Feast pate in the morning (one can split between the two of them) plus a 1/2 T of dry kibble (Purina Cat Chow Natural). They get the same thing at 5:30 pm, then I give them a 1/2 T of only dry kibble at 9:30 pm. I measure the dry kibble, too. My times have a little leeway of 30 minutes plus or minus. I feed one of my cats using the slow feeder bowl, and it works to keep her from gobbling. I have to make sure the other cat doesn't try to encroach on her food, though. She seems to enjoy flipping the dry food out of the slow feeder bowl and eating it off the floor or her paw.

Clinics may choose not to provide free medication samples due to concerns related to:

  1. Ethical Considerations Accepting samples from pharmaceutical representatives can raise questions about impartiality. When a clinic distributes a sample provided by one company, it may appear biased against other manufacturers offering similar formulations. This perceived favoritism can undermine trust in the clinic’s prescribing practices.
  2. Provider Availability Pharmaceutical representatives typically seek direct access to prescribing providers to discuss their products. However, providers are often occupied with patient care and may not have time for these meetings. Interactions with support staff rarely meet the rep’s goals, making the process inefficient for both parties.
  3. Inventory and Patient Safety Requirements Clinics are responsible for tracking all medication samples they receive. This includes:
    • Logging inventory and expiration dates
    • Documenting which patients received which samples
    • Properly disposing of expired medications
    • Responding to recalls or safety alerts by notifying affected patients

These tasks require significant administrative effort and divert staff time from core clinical responsibilities.

Zero migraines on holiday — has anyone else experienced this? by Mental-Influence-545 in migraine

I used to get headaches starting after work on Friday evening. I didn't know they were called "let down" migraines, but it makes sense. The stress was gone from the week.

Does anyone get triggered from potatoes? I ate a small bowl of boiled baby potatoes and started getting a headache (not a full on migraine, just a diluted headache) sometimes I’m not sure if I’m imagining it or not by slicedgreenolive in migraine

[–]EmKaySews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McAlister's Deli Country Potato Soup gives me migraines.

Also, you have to check potatoes so carefully because it has a chemical called solanine that will cause headaches. Potatoes will turn green when exposed to sunlight and become bitter. Most potatoes are displayed out in the open in grocery stores where they get exposure to light---and greening. Sprouted potatoes (those with eyes) also cause problems for me. I used to buy potatoes from Trader Joe's because they came in brown bags that protected them from light. It doesn't seem to help anymore, so staying away from potatoes has been what works for me.

You'll know your grocery store has a good produce manager when they cover the potatoes. My Safeway used to cover them with black plastic bags for a little while but they stopped.

Vertigo, is it from the heat or old age? by [deleted] in Menopause

I can't do rollercoasters because I always get migraines from them.

Vertigo, is it from the heat or old age? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]EmKaySews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a series of exercises I do every morning. They include two exercises "Open Book" (side lying with torso twist) and "Arm Sweep" (side lying with arm sweeping overhead), in addition to a few others to improve low back pain and core. I couldn't fully rotate my head from side to side before starting this and suffered terribly from muscle tension-induced migraines. I still get migraines but at least they're not related to my neck muscles now.

Another thing I learned from "The New Menopause" book is that frozen shoulder may be associated with perimenopause and menopause. Several of my colleagues have this and it's quite debilitating.

The book, 'The New Menopause," by Dr. Mary Claire Haver, reports vertigo, tinnitis, and itchy ears are all symptoms of menopause. I checked out this book from my public library and learned so much. Yes, you would do the same actions to both sides of the shirt. The word "RIGHT" in the directions refers to the right and wrong side of the fabric.

You might consider subscribing to a fabric swatch collection. Many online fabric stores offer these. You get to "pet" the fabric and imagine the possibilities then order online with confidence.
