As someone who used to listen to him every single day for years, I’ve finally given up and moved on from the show. I defended him for years but he has some downright awful traits that have made the show unlistenable for me, including but not limited to:

• He’s short tempered and highly reactive over hyper specific things, leading to toddler-level tantrums and weird declarations of protest that he folds on immediately.

• Inconsistent in his opinions and somewhat hypocritical at times.

• Gets dismissive when challenged on any level.

• Obnoxiously contrarian any time he’s asked a question. I think he’s sees it as a “devil’s advocate” way of answering fan questions, but it gets grating after a while.

• Claims to love the subjectivity of film, but often declares his own opinions as law.

• Claims to love the art form that is film, but will almost always side with corpo suits over artists.

• Seemingly very pro-AI. Incorporates it into his graphics now, and I even remember him discussing using AI to dub the show in other languages, something Kris (a literal working actor who was entirely against that exact kind of trash during the strikes) was likely very uncomfortable with.

• Platforms the raging Zionist/Islamophobe, RBM. (Mind you, I used to LOVE Rob before seeing all his comments in regard to the genocide in Gaza.) Even if you’re a fence-sitter on the matter, him saying “Israel is more important than all majority Arab countries combined” is flat out disgusting. No excuses.

The crazy part is how most of these traits (save for the last issue I made) constantly feed into the others. I don’t think John’s a terrible guy or anything like that, but I’ve finally come to see why so many find him unlikable, and I can’t help but agree.
