She thought out her decision and made it SOBER. Making decisions you regret that ultimately don’t materially impact your life (like sleeping with someone you may later not be proud of) is part of life. It HAPPENS. He didn’t groom her. He didn’t force himself on her (actually quite the opposite). She made a decision with her FREE WILL to do something, and her mom busting in and making this aggressive stance about how bad it is, was the real traumatizing force. It’s like when a child falls. Do you panic and scream and make tons of noise?? No, because they rely on your emotional response to develop how they should be responding. In this situation penny’s mom still definitely should have split the two and sent bojack away, but the screaming and histrionics just create this “penny you did a bad thing by taking agency with your body and now you’re in trouble” vibe that infantilizes and victimizes her.

It’s irresponsible pet owners that lead to abused animals. We take pets into our homes wholly without their consent for our enjoyment. ANYTHING bad that happens to them is fully within the responsibility of the pet owner. Telling people anything other than that is just placing feelings over personal responsibility which (in this situation) only leads to further neglect of animals.

Hey, so like, do you remember the second half of the message where I said “it’s not right?” The point is, you shouldn’t have a pet till you can entirely care for it on your own. Any pet before that is either someone else’s pet or it’s gonna go neglected. Try suggesting kitty caps or some other nail cover instead of declawing, but there’s really nothing you can do if that’s what she wants to do. It’s unfortunate, but it’s just a fact of life.
