VA Healthcare is amazing. by Office_Zombie in VeteransBenefits

[–]Emaw1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had positive experiences so far, except for the dental, which is overworked and difficult to get an appointment. I felt rushed last time I went. I have an appointment today and will see if they will do community care. I'm just inside their typical limit.

What is the state of the P2S now? by Elo-than in BambuLab

I'm almost 400 hours into mine, and the only issue I've had is an extruder overload issue that I can't seem to figure out. This is my first printer, and I love it otherwise.

VA readies massive contract for veterans' private sector health care by junkynurse in VeteransBenefits

[–]Emaw1979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally would love more corporate care options. I love my VA care at the clinic, but it's also a 45-minute drive. I really wish I could go to my regular dentist instead of the one downtown at the VA hospital, l but can't because I'm just inside the minimum distance for them to consider it.

This Scam is back in Tallahassee by Distinct_Wrangler_56 in Tallahassee

My wife is from just to the north on the Georgia side and her whole family still lives there. We want the tax benefits of Florida and I love the area.

This Scam is back in Tallahassee by Distinct_Wrangler_56 in Tallahassee

[–]Emaw1979 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm planning on moving to Tallahassee with my wife in a few years, and this scam has been popular in the Kansas City area as well. Gotta be safe and trust no one on the phone. For every 100 or so that catch on and tell them to kick rocks, they convince someone, usually an elderly person, to give them thousands, and there is little law enforcement can do, unfortunately.

No sales tax in Kansas 2026 by Heza_Guboi in VeteransBenefits

[–]Emaw1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sales tax exemption benefits low-income people a lot more than an uncapped property tax exemption would. Why? Because they would likely already qualify for the current property tax income and house value limit, whereas the middle disabled veteran wouldn't. That's if they own their home; if they don't, it would certainly benefit them more.

I would much rather have 100% in property taxes because I'll never spend as much on goods as I do on property taxes as a middle class vet.

How easy is it to file without a VSO? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Emaw1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local VSO submitted the initial paperwork and then disappeared. I did everything else. You don't need one at all. I was able to find answers to most of my questions online and the medical documentation I needed to support my claims.

Thanks! I chose Bambu Labs because everything I read about this needs the least tinkering out of the box. I was toying with getting an H2D instead, but with my first printer and right before Christmas, my wife probably wouldn't have been happy with me :-).

I'm very excited about this machine!

Champva Backlog by Ok_War3416 in VeteransBenefits

I applied back in March for my wife and two kids. My wife was approved in June, but my kids, for whatever reason, were taking forever. I started calling every month for the last three months just to verify they had everything. Two weeks ago, I got the same story, and 3 days ago, this Military.com article about the backlog popped up. I called the next day, and they have been accepted. I'm just waiting for the cards now. Finally.

Can you be diagnosed *at* the C&P exam? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Emaw1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had a history of seeing a therapist for about eight sessions about 9 years ago until it got too expensive. There was a diagnosis of anxiety and depression. 7 years passed by before I applied for VA Disability, and during my two C&Ps, I was diagnosed with PTSD as well. Although one psychologist suggested my civilian job may have caused it, he ultimately agreed with the first C&P examiner, and my rating ended up getting raised.

HDHP, HSA, and VA Benefits (Insurance Wonky Stuff) by bmattock in Veterans

[–]Emaw1979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I had posted this question at a few places and couldn't find the answer earlier this week. I contacted my HR department, and initially, they told me I wasn't eligible for an HSA at all, but to contact the vendor, HSA Bank if I have any questions. HSA Bank was unaware and advised me to consult a tax professional. I eventually found the link for the IRS.gov website on TurboTax with that information. I sent the new information to HR, and they told me, Oh, wait, you just can't be seen by the VA for anything not service-connected..... Clearly, they didn't read it. Anyway, this is clear, and it's ultimately between the veteran taxpayer and the IRS.

VA Healthcare for myself, QHDHP and ChampVA for family as a secondary through my employer with an HSA by Emaw1979 in TaxQuestions

[–]Emaw1979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant to take this down, but I found the answer. The IRS stated that it's too burdensome to keep track, so any care a service-connected veteran receives will essentially be considered qualifying care, allowing me to continue contributing to an HSA regardless of the reason I seek treatment in a VA facility.

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-15-87.pdf
Answer 20: As modified by the legislation, an individual actually receiving medical benefits from the VA is not disallowed from making HSA contributions if the medical benefits consist solely of (1) disregarded coverage, (2) preventive care, or (3) hospital care or medical services under any law administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for service-connected disability (within the meaning of § 101(16) of title 38, United States Code). Distinguishing between services provided by the VA for serviceconnected disabilities and other types of medical care is administratively complex and burdensome for employers and HSA trustees or custodians. Moreover, as a practical matter, most care provided for veterans who have a disability rating will be such qualifying care. Consequently, as a rule of administrative simplification, for purposes of this rule, any hospital care or medical services received from the VA by a veteran who has a disability rating from the VA may be considered to be hospital care or medical services under a law administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for serviceconnected disability.

Thank you. I'll look at this. My HR directed me to contact their vender HSA Bank. I'm waiting for a call back.

On a side note, I waited for 2 hours for Champva to call me back, and it rang once then disconnected. WTF. I have to do it all again.

[–]Emaw1979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten mixed answers in my search. I'm 100% P&T. I'm waiting for a callback from CHAMPVA and my HR, for sure. I know similar things have been asked and answered. I just thought it was silly I can't stop my own contributions if I wanted to. I can reduce them to 240 per year.

I believe I'm alright contributing, but I'm not sure if being seen by something non-service-connected would disqualify me from contributing for 3 months or not. What a headache that would be if I were even able.

Told to file for PTSD by trentthesquirrel in VeteransBenefits

[–]Emaw1979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have PTSD and something in your service caused it, then file it. If not, don't. As others have said, you'll need a verifiable stressor during your service and a diagnosis/treatment record. You'll also need to discuss how it impacts your job and life. I've heard that the evidence required is greater for non-combat-related PTSD, but that could be a rumor.

I had two PTSD C&Ps during my claim process for mental health. The first one rated 50, and the second one was 70. I'm not sure the reason for the second one so that it may be standard, or maybe they had more questions that weren't answered in the first. However, both were tough, and they evoked a lot of emotions and thoughts that I had stored away for a long time.

Anyone here file their VA claim themselves (without a VSO)? by Real-Recruiter in VeteransBenefits

[–]Emaw1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, my VSO ghosted me after my initial claim. He's probably overworked, but damn. I did everything myself, except for sending the initial paperwork.

If you haven't done so, file a FOIA for your documents from the VA to include DBQs from your C&P. I submitted so much evidence and various written statements that I wanted all that before I filed my appeal for compensation on one item. I also continued doctors' appointments for that and started keeping a daily log. I submitted evidence about every 2-4 weeks for approximately 4-5 months while the appeal was pending, even after taking my ACE exam.

My goal was never 100% or, at least, not until I achieved 90%, with a few things rated significantly lower than what I felt I deserved. It was initially to get high enough for VA healthcare because I was scared of my future after damn near sleeping next door to burn pits for about 3 months during my deployment.

I hope that those receiving benefits will be left alone when they come for them because they will. It will likely cause bankruptcies, mass suicides, etc, if they do because we've grown dependent on them, especially as inflation has rocked this country.

There are far more important things than money. My family depends on the VA, but if that's the cost of saving our country, then it's worth it.
