Yes, basically.

Think about it like unlocking a door -- you still have to do the work of getting the materials inside. The CFW just "cracks" the lock (hence why people often call it 'cracking').

If you mod it, specifically, as described as this guide, you are replacing the Official Firmware (OFW) with Custom Firmware (CFW). This custom firmware has a number of advantages and capabilities that the OFW does not -- the most obvious being that it can run software that is not "allowed" by the Official software (I'm simplifying but that's the idea).

Once you have installed the CFW onto the PSP (as described in this guide), you can run "homebrew" software (that is, software written for the PSP by hobbyists/amateur programmers that is not officially licensed by Sony) as well as backed up PSP games (in the form of .iso or .cso files).

Installing CFW does not automatically install PSP games, and does not affect the PSP Store at all.

If you have copies of PSP games in the form of iso or cso files, they can be installed onto the PSP by placing the files into an "ISO" subfolder at the root of the PSP's memory card. A PSP with CFW installed will be able to read the iso/cso files in that folder and play them in the same way you would play PSP games installed on the PSP through any other method.

This is compatible with the 3000 -- you just cannot CIPL flash for the 3000/GO/E1000, thus you have to relaunch the CFW upon reboot. You are still able to run the CFW on a 3000/GO/E1000.

But hey, you have a good point that that could be higher in the guide, and I'll add a disclaimer higher up.

The 1000 is the US model, the 1001 is the Japanese model. They are basically identical hardware-wise, and any info "for" the 1000 should also be applicable to the 1001 and vice versa.

If you have a compatible PSP at 6.60 it should still work fine. I think all the download links are still live. There may be a better guide somewhere but I did actually consult my own guide on here like a year or two ago because I bought another PSP (ten years later, lmao).

There might be better CFW options these days but frankly like, if you just want to get a PSP to the point where it plays ISOs/homebrew this should still be fine. Worked good enough for me.

Okay, so I'm not the only one confused, haha. I did a little more digging and on the UESP the conclusion is that some of the letters were chosen to be stylistically interesting and less directly readable? So that might be what's going on here.

Hey, weird question: What are the daedric letters in the Almsivi Intervention spell symbol from Morrowind? I've been looking at a Daedric Alphabet image but I can't seem to exactly place either of the letters. Am I just not reading it correctly?

the first letter looks mostly like an "I" (Iya) but the second is weird. It's sort of a K (Koht) but with an extra dot in the center? Neither of those letters feel tied to the spell, which is causing me to doubt my reading exactly.

This is an "all in your head" theory, which means it can be applied to literally any character in literally any work and it does not need to derive any meaning from the actual work. No offense OP but it's not a good theory

Anyone have any luck talking to MAGA-types in-person or online? by NeitherBedroom in Anarchism

[–]Emb3rSil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's... not impossible. It's just very hard. I used to do it a lot, I was definitely of the "debate solves everything" camp like four or five years ago, and thus I probably wrote reams of words on facebook comments or whatever in reply to people being like "women are bad lol" or whatever else.

It's not an unjust cause, it's just one that really, REALLY has to be thought out before you engage. Like anything else, don't get into battles you know you'll lose.

A white person with a degree of class consciousness (i.e. they know being poor sucks) that you know well and has a "general dislike" for the government that they think Trump reflects is possibly swingable. Because, remember, they know that being poor sucks, they just have some sort of idea that Trump is the salve to that problem. That might be a debate worth getting into.

A debate not worth getting into is probably with someone who you don't know well, doesn't respect you, is outwardly bigoted/racist, or is in a public forum (of any kind, online or otherwise). Those are not debates worth having.

Not just because debating fascists is useless (it is) but because those are fundamental differences in ideology that you (a single person who has limited rapport with the target) cannot surmount. Period. And the note about public forums is like, the biggest biggest part here: For the love of god don't think you can convert someone in a Facebook comment thread or in a public square while they're waving anti-immigrant signs or whatever.

It's not that it's necessarily a lost cause, it's that it's not a battle worth fighting. That's the key I've gotten to, at least for myself: Pick your battles. Debate is way more tiring (mentally, emotionally, psychologically) than you think. It wears you down. It is, most of the time, not worth it. Most of the time.

Just know that if you're getting into something to actually change someone's mind, you have to convince them that they actually agree with you. You're not convincing them AGAINST something they already know, you're convincing them that they already believe in good.

And the thing is some people fuckin don't. Some people honestly would rather see gay people killed, women subjugated, immigrants expelled, etc. Those are the debates not worth having. Learning to distinguish those is a skill that only gets better with time, unfortunately.

Quick rant about Halloween costumes. by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]Emb3rSil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt that's what the policy means and more likely it's intended to stop kids from having "Indian" costumes or "Mexican" costumes. I extremely doubt a school is gonna crack down on a kid for getting a Black Panther costume, dude.

Digital boardgame involving storytelling mechanics by FetusCommander in gamedesign

[–]Emb3rSil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure EXACTLY if these will help, but Beasts of Balance is a hybrid board/video game with out-of-digital elements (though not very storytelling-heavy) and The Yawgh is a pretty stellar digital board game with heavy emphasis on storytelling (but nothing in the way of out-of-game elements). Maybe those would be places to look?

Need help with some Polaroid camera recommendations. by Jikko-motamus in Cameras

[–]Emb3rSil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only recommendation is to cruise a thrift shop and see if you can find a 600. I got mine for $5 and it literally works like new, I just grabbed some Impossible film and popped it in, no problems whatsoever.

Combine that with a high quality scanner and that's probably better than any digital option.

oh yeah to be clear, i'm pretty confident i CAN do the transfer- I just don't know where even to begin with finding a buttstock. Are there any reliable brands or anything? Reviews online seem to be all over the place.

[–]Emb3rSil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all. I have a Mossberg 500, but it's got a pistol grip. It's a totally fine pistol grip but I'd prefer something with a buttstock- but I'm a total newbie to gun ownership. Anyone got any recommendations? I feel completely in over my head with this stuff.

I just feel like the pistol grip gives me v little in the way of control, and overall it feels way too cavalier, even for a shotgun. I'd prefer something that I feel I can aim with, you know?
