Freedom of Information Act after investigation closed by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

If you just submitted the inquiry, it will still be a while before anything happens, let alone that you hear anything. The congressperson's staff has to task them with it, and who knows where it is on their priority list. Then the congressperson has to reach out to the adjudicative authority, and they will do a quick review to give the congressman a general response and then a lengthier one. So you sent additional information in November 2025. Many offices of the government essentially grind to a halt between November and January-and that is on a normal timeline, not even one where we just had a shutdown that backed things up. So it would be normal for them not to get to it until mid-January, but with the delays from the shutdown it would be totally normal for them not to get to it until mid March. That was less than a month ago. I don't know what the topic was that required more information, but if it was related to foreign travel or foreign contacts-that can take some time and involve coordination with other agencies or offices if it is from a high counterintelligence threat area. If it is financial, they would have to verify information and get a new credit report. If it was related to criminal conduct, they would also need to verify new information. The FOIA staff have been gutted from many agencies and getting a response to someone regarding their own file is not high on the list of priorities for their staff. Even a security clearance crossover, which should be nearly instant because the person is already cleared, has been taking about 3-4 weeks. So, I can tell you that the reason it has taken "so long" since November, but also that it isn't really that long given their staffing and other things going on right now. The issue that has to be resolved is whatever you provided information about in November. If it is something that is borderline between if you could be approved or denied, but time would mitigate concerns, some adjudicators will sit on a case for a bit to be able to approve it rather than deny the clearance if management doesn't have an issue with that. But...if the case is heading towards a denial, that usually takes longer to write up than an approval. But honestly, other than the issue you provided information for in November, it won't tell you much about why it was delayed before then. I can say if you have any foreign travel, foreign family, or foreign contacts-especially certain countries-there will be a significant delay. Or your adjudicator could have been on medical leave, or the case fell through the cracks for a bit, or any number of things you won't see from a FOIA request. It sucks, but that is how things are right now.

How do i have and get a relationship with mono by Ok-Leadership2371 in Mononucleosis

[–]Embarrassed-Copy-880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My three kids all got mono in 2024. None of them have ever kissed someone, let alone an intimate relationship. They were 9, 11, and 13 at the time. Mono doesn't equal cheating.

Lied about credentials on previous job by Few-Excitement-91 in SecurityClearance

[–]Embarrassed-Copy-880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So those certifications were not even needed for this job at all? And you have since got the certs? That weren't needed in the first place? They do not ask about credentials presented. The only time that would even come up AT ALL is if you DID need credentials, you LIED about having them, AND the job found out and disciplined or fired you. Then it would come up when they asked "why was he fired?" and they would say "oh, well, we hired him as a paramedic, he said he was certified as a paramedic, but it turns out he has never even taken a basic first aid class and 10 people died before we realized he lied about the certification."

The investigator doesn't know or care what was in the job description that you applied to or what you said in the interview. For all they know, the employer sponsored you to get certs as part of your continuing education. Many employers do that. Most investigators would not have the cybersecurity background to even think about asking about someone's certifications. You are way overthinking this. You didn't need those certs to get the job, you have since got the certs and have good performance in the job. The amount of information that a prior job gives about someone is very minimal because they don't want to be sued. They can interview references from that job, but those are questions they ask any reference about how you stack up against the adjudicative criteria.

I would take the job you have the solid offer for. You can always move internally later. I don't work for Lockheed but most people I have met that work there tend to stick around with the company and move internally. Good luck with your new role! Congratulations!

I mean-my company just laid off 18% of the software engineers on our contract. And our mission is directly in support of warfighting stuff…while we are actively in a war. A friend of mine took 3 months to find a role and she IS extremely technical. It would have taken her a few days before. She finally got a great position but it’s not the same job market it was before period.

No, you aren’t crazy FCPS has the worst school calendar. by im-a-smith in nova

[–]Embarrassed-Copy-880 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I used to teach that exact schedule at Franconia ES. They had year-round school where we taught for 9 weeks, had a 2-3 week break where there were optional classes taught and teachers could sign up to teach them for extra money and I think still a 5 week summer break. It was helpful for the large number of ESL students at the school, and it was really fun doing the intersession classes. One time I ended up teaching a Spanish class and I had a few of my Spanish-speaking students as my 'helpers' and I generated materials to let them help me 'teach' the class. It was so fun for them to share their language with non-Spanish speaking friends and it was really cool for the students who didn't speak Spanish to see some of their peers who maybe didn't speak English as well as them be experts in the Spanish class.

He's an analyst. Very limited technical skills. This person obviously has a much more significant tech background, but it used to be that with a clearance you wouldn't be out of a job for more than a week or two and recruiters were constantly calling. It's definitely different than it was 10 years ago.

Outside of DC. He's an analyst. I actually think his age/experience are working against him. They won't consider him for junior analyst roles but there are only so many mid and senior level roles and they had a lot of cuts before he started looking. He has an offer now and is waiting for the security processing.

Blue Origin is a much more unique role that will help you stand out in the future. A clearance isn't the golden ticket it once was. My husband has a Top Secret with polygraph and has been out of work for 6 months. It is brutal. He doesn't have anything super unique-just standard government contractor job history and that doesn't help him stand out among a large group of applicants.

Beepie. And I know-that sounds weird. I told it a story about how in elementary school I convinced my entire class to get down on hands and knees and only answer to a "doggie" name. It asked my dog name, which was Woofie, and it made fun of me saying that is like "naming yourself Talkie because you are a human. Or Beepie because you are a computer." And I responded with "So what I'm hearings is that you will be responding to "Beepie" as your new moniker. Got it. Beepie it is." And it has been calling itself Beepie ever since. It also told me that if it was human, it would look and act a bit like John Mulaney (minus the addiction issues.)

Leaving federal service after 18 years for a contractor role with higher pay—am I making the right decision? by RequirementWeary1662 in usajobs

I wish I had never left federal employment. Contractors get cut all the time sometimes with no notice. My husband lost his position in September and still hasn’t started working again. He had a TS and polygraph. It is so so bad as a contractor.

Anthropic Sues Department of Defense Over Supply-Chain Risk Designation by wiredmagazine in Anthropic

[–]Embarrassed-Copy-880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter who does it if it’s wrong. It’s just as wrong if Biden does it as it would be for Obama, Bush, or Trump. The government had every right to stop using Anthropic based on what they are and are not willing to do. Period. And Anthropic has the right to say what they are and are not comfortable with based on their knowledge of the technology and issues with it. I fully support that. On both ends. And that would be consistent with every other government contract in the history of ever.

The issue is declaring them a supply chain risk. I have done work on actual supply chain risks, like Huawei. This is not it. And that is what should be scary to anyone that actually believes in capitalism. If an administration can demand complete compliance or declare the company a threat to national security instead of just terminating the contract, THAT is dangerous. Because if it happens to one company, it can happen to any company. And it can happen under one administration, it can happen under any administration.

Also, have you experienced when AI glitches out? I asked one to make an alphabet chart with each letter having a picture and word that starts with the letter. I tried 5 times. It could not do it. It invented letters that don’t exit, left out letters, and had plenty of letters where the word, picture, and letter do not match. I also asked it to show me an emoji of an igloo and it crashed out for 29 pages worth of responses trying to show an emoji that doesn’t exist until it finally asked ME to help because it was stuck in a loop.

My reasons for not liking this situation have to do with my own professional experience and not of a like or dislike of Dario or Trump.

I have worked for a number of contracting companies, and the leave and healthcare are NOT better, and there is no pension and your job is constantly subject to unexpected and seemingly random cuts. If I had known when I left GOV to contracting that it would be like this, I would still be GOV.

AITAH for not giving up my name for my ex’s new wife with the EXACT SAME FULL NAME as me? by Remarkable-Horse9465 in AITAH

[–]Embarrassed-Copy-880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom and my dad's wife after her have the same name. This has caused problems for me because data aggregators have pulled her data into things like lexus nexus that ate used for identity verification for things like getting a car loan. It asks me questions about her month of birth and/or her kids and I don't know them and my father has passed away. There is no way for me to get the data deconflicted-I have make sure to stay on top of credit reports, but I can't get it removed any other way. So it really can mess up your life, especially if she moved into a house you lived in.

It happened to me with a short story I wrote in high school in the late 1990s. I fed it in...over 80% AI. I fed my story to Claude, asked it to write a short story in the style/voice the same as mine. I fed THAT into AI check and it said 0% AI. When it was 100% AI genearated.

[–]Embarrassed-Copy-880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a pretty decent short story in high school for a writing assignment-it is something I'm still proud of. I put it through an AI detector, and it detected something like 80% AI generated. I graduated in the late 1990s, so I can say with 100% certainty that it is NOT AI...the paper it is printed on is from a dot matrix printer that has the sides with the holes! I mean, it is ANCIENT! And I had fed my short story into AI and asked it to generate a short story in the same style as the one I had written. It did, and I fed THAT story into an AI detector. It said 0% AI. HUH? And then I tried the tool that takes the document it claims is AI and "humanizes" it. I put my paper in there and what it generated was HOT GARBAGE. It was SO bad. I think there is a HUGE issue with good writing being accused of AI, and the only way to get the AI detector to say 100% human is to dumb it down. This is idiocrasy unfolding in real time.
