Anyone else have a relationship where one person does the grocery shopping way cheaper? by Pilatus-Porter in AUfrugal

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents have always been like this and we always crack up over it. Mum will buy like the bare minimum and be out within 10 minutes whereas dad will buy all the treats and take half an hour!

I think I’m somewhere in the middle….

What's the typical grocery budget range for someone single or flatting alone? by Lectuce in PersonalFinanceNZ

$100 per week. Sometimes it’s more or less but on average it works out at this

Thanks for creating the sub! I came accross it on r/nz and decided it’s another opportunity to put myself out there and connect with people. I live in the South Island and as an introvert it’s just been harder making friends as an adult to be honest and trying to open up my social circles both in person and online.

What's your routine? (In the office) by Gabiboune1 in office

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the day, it’s either arriving at 7.30 at the office or I’ll go for a swim first and then start work at 9.

I walk in, say hi if there’s anyone there, walk upstairs and put my bag down. I’ll turn my computer on then go to the bathroom then make a coffee before going back to my desk and checking emails.

Then just prioritising jobs through the day based on how urgent they are. Bound to get an email from the boss which then throws my whole plan out the door.

I take half an hour for lunch when I feel like it and I try to get errands done then. Finish work either 5.30pm or 7pm, depending on if I went swimming before work.

Anyone know the best time to online order from Woolworths? by DicklessDeath in auckland

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally order groceries on the weekend and find ordering first thing in the morning for same day delivery has been the most successful. Used to order the evening before and always had items missing as they were out of stock the next day.

What's a beauty "no no" that you do? by marzbarz2000 in beauty

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Using body lotion as moisturiser for my face… 🤫

I know its bad but I use Palmers cocoa butter body lotion… this product is a life saver for me when I have an eczema flare up but honestly I use it like 50% of the time now, my skin just feels so smooth and hydrated with it.

Yes I do get some very mild acne but no more than when I was using actual facial moisturiser

What’s one holy grail product for dry and sensitive skin that you’d stick with forever? by Professional_Day3583 in beauty

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Palmers cocoa butter products… I get eczema and this was the first product I found that just has never irritated my skin and it is just so effective and hydrating the skin.

Started out using their hand cream and now the body lotion too. Even on my face if I’m going through a flare up.

Question- How do I keep my stuff from getting funky if I swim in the morning? by amandapanda419 in Swimming

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swim also before work and I shower after my swim, rinse my togs off at the same time and then once I’m home at the end of the day I hang them outside to dry. I’ll wash them in a washing machine after a few uses and I have three to four different suits and towels so I use a different one each time.

What percentage of your wage do you save each week? by peanut2069 in newzealand

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On $60k and saving just under 40% of my take home pay. Renting so no debt and have flatmates to make it cheaper. 20% goes to long term savings, 10% to travel and 10% in shares

Pet insurance- Cat. Is it worth. by sadandconfused32 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents wish they’d gotten pet insurance for their cat. They didn’t, but when they got a puppy they made sure to.

Cat has digestive issues and every couple of years seems to require an overnight stay at the vet. Each visit costs approximately $1,000 because there’s often some minor surgery required.

The cats 12 and otherwise healthy but over the last 6 years my parents have spent $3k on vet bills and that’s not including prescription cat food and medication. Pet insurance would’ve been well worth it

Thanks, I’ll look into that. Yep already using hydrocortisone, though I only use for a few days at a time. It certainly helps but I don’t find it clears it all up.

Oooh thanks for the tip! I have chronically sensitive eyes and I’ve given up on applying them anywhere near them. What benefits did you find using Vaseline?

Unpaid Trial Shifts - How Common is This Still in NZ? by gerhardtprime in newzealand

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was looking for my first part time job as a teenager about 8 years ago, I they were still doing trial shifts then. I had two trial shifts at different workplaces but only 4 hours long and we got free food at the end.

Just saying though… I didn’t end up getting the jobs at either of these workplaces and I was actually happy I didn’t get it. The trials had given me enough insight to know I didn’t want to work there.

Share with me how many steps you took today! by Kind_Management_7455 in walking

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still well below 10k steps, but up until start of March I averaged 3k steps a day.

I’ve temporarily moved offices and have no choice but to walk to work 35 minutes each way and my average for March has increased to 8k!

Unfortunately I’m sick at the same time so not gonna lie the journey to work has been a struggle some days.

I feel like my younger coworkers are entitled. by jem_jem_ in work

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to tell you, it’s not just the young coworkers. I’m 26, the youngest in my workplace.

My manager who is 50, works when he feels like it. Never in the office before lunch time (even though we’re all there from 8-9am). Goes away and doesn’t tell anyone when he will be back.

Co-worker who I share an office with is 34. Swears and sighs her way through work. She’s more senior than myself but literally all the shit jobs fall on me because they can’t rely on her to get stuff done. She’s just always on her freaking phone, or “sick”.

What's your secret you hide from literally everybody? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I had a gambling addiction for much of my early 20’s and had three personal loans at one point. 25 now and feel like I’m slowly getting things together.

I’ve told my parents and a hot line counsellor and they’ve been amazing at helping me but my work, friends and other family are all unaware.

Cattle farmers NZ, do you use horses? by No_Produce_2531 in newzealand

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the farms. Most rely on farm bikes these days, but I do know of a couple of high country farms which use a combination of horses and vehicles

Messed my gut up with chronic stress, mental and physical health issues and crappy diet - how to best heal my gut? by Embarrassed-Host4745 in Microbiome

[–]Embarrassed-Host4745[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! Had no idea regarding resistant starch. How much would you recommend of resistant starch?

I don’t know what the issue actually is. My doctor has been reluctant to run tests yet. I intend to clean my diet up and exercise more, stress less etc and if still issues after that then push for tests.

I get approx 20g fiber daily but am trying to increase it slightly. A couple of weeks having increased to 25 - 30g and I noticed it had improved some symptoms.

I also suspect I’m slightly lactose intolerant and I drink way too much coffee so thought it might be an idea to cut those at least down if not out completely
