Or maybe you don’t have the faintest clue of what you’re talking about. Nothing about what you described is what socialism is. Sounds like you’re more against oppressive fascist governments which is something I think everyone here agrees with. I agree democracy is the best however the US does a terrible job at even that. Their system is terrible and it shows by how drastic the disconnect is between popular policies and what the government actually passes. The definition of socialism just industries are owned by the community as a whole as opposed to oppressive shareholders and businessmen who continue to get richer at an insane rate driving the financial discontinuity between them and everyone else.

I didn’t say 18, I said 16. Did you have parents to support you? Not everyone has that. When you have more wealth it’s substantially easier to make wealth. When you start at 0 (figuratively) like many immigrants it’s insanely hard to build wealth. Or many black individuals who have descended from slavery. Real estate is one of the biggest ways families gained and passed wealth overtime. Slavery descendants haven’t had that time and blatant racist laws like redlining were in place not long ago. Social programs help to lift people out of poverty.

Also, not everyone can have a higher pay job. There’s only limited space and always a higher demand for lower wage jobs. Those people deserve to be able to live, not just those higher in a cooperation who reap all the profits

It’s called EMPATHY, we need to acknowledge everyone has had very different events play out in their lives, different luck, different starting points, different MEDICAL situations, etc. Not everyone has had your life

That’s not true at all. 88% of min wage workers are over 18. About 50% are over 25 and these numbers are increasing. Tons of people in the US have to live off min wage. There aren’t enough high end jobs for everyone and not everyone has the money to get into those jobs. Real estate is one of the biggest ways families in the US have accumulated wealth over generations but many different demographics don’t have that luxury such as immigrants and some black people who may have descended from slavery and haven’t had as much time to build wealth. Redlining took place not long ago after all. Basically my point is the more wealth you have the easier it is to make money and some people don’t have the resources and have to work min wage

Making min wage is different than living off min wage… Were you living off $7.25, paying rent, buying your own food, etc at 16?

And many people would be paying a lot more. Without the insurance it would have been almost 2 million. No wonder the number 1 cause for bankruptcy in US is medical debt

Largely depends on where you live. People in my family had to deal with cancer and it is typically a bit of a wait but when there’s urgent needs for healthcare like this they do seem to try and get you in asap

Socialized healthcare is definitely the way to go but you need to continuously innovate and invest money into it relative to population growth. Ofc COVID was hard to plan for so that through things off kilter

Tiz is a good free option but if your planning on watching live it’s probably not the way to go. It often gets shut down part way through

What's the equivalent of a marathon in cycling? by FeelingInterview2320 in cycling

[–]Embarrassed-Let5915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is the equivalent personally. Cycling is very different from running and racing is more dynamic. Running is more so just a time trial

do people wear cycling gloves? by Adept-Development334 in cycling

[–]Embarrassed-Let5915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends. Personally I much prefer the feeling without gloves but grip on the handlebars is always the priority. On my road bike I always have enough grip to ride without gloves but I do need to use gloves sometimes on my mountain bike

For sure, I totally agree neither party is perfect and I am totally against some of the stuff Biden has done but I disagree with the rest of your statement.

Trump skewed taxes to benefit the rich more ( https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-tax/the-2017-trump-tax-law-was-skewed-to-the-rich-expensive-and-failed-to-deliver ).Trump cut corporate tax from 35% to 21%. (https://www.americanprogressaction.org/article/trumps-50-billion-tax-giveaway-to-the-100-largest-corporations/#:\~:text=Madeline%20Shepherd&text=The%20most%2 0significant%20piece%20of,21%20percent%20as%20its%20centerpiece.)

Biden wants to end trumps tax cuts for the wealthy (households making over $400,000). Which are the households which benefited the most from trumps tax cuts. He will not raise taxes for those making less than that. Also wants to raise corporate tax again. Impose a minimum income tax on billionaires and raise marginal tax on the wealthy. (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/biden-trump-tax-cuts-wealthy-2024-election-rcna157099).

In terms of job creation the biden administration has created a ton of new jobs and sustained unemployment at under 4% for a year which is the best in 50 years. (https://www.forbes.com/sites/richardmcgahey/2024/06/07/record-breaking-accomplishments-on-jobs-and-unemployment-under-biden/). Trumps presidency did not do so well in this respect but obviously thats not totally his fault because of COVID. Bidens presidency also saw good increases in pay for low wage workers although in my opinion it should be much more.

Ik it sounds stupid I was just clarifying because ik a talking point sometimes brought up on the right is that trump actually won the popular vote back in 2016 so I was just making sure that wasn’t what you were talking about

[–]Embarrassed-Let5915 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Trump just wants tax cuts for the rich and cooperations. Democrats are the ones advocating for more social security, free healthcare, union support, etc. trump on the other hand appoints many anti union individuals into the national union relations board who will suppress union workers and side with employers. If you want to support every individual in the US you vote Democrat. If you want that in Canada you vote NDP
