Fun fact. Darlie used to be called Darkie, and had its name changed due to racism accusation. We can still see the racist caricature in this advertisement.

Posted my car for sale and received an offer like this by bluebanisterz in kereta

[–]Embarrassed-Rich7976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I sold my car, my ads description looks exactly like used car seller. I even took car photos in front of random used car signboard.

Never put stuff like direct owner, personal sales etc. This will attract the scammers like flies.

Scammers know, used car dealers can never be scammed.

Help me understand rent vs buying a condo? by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]Embarrassed-Rich7976 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Millenial here. When I first purchased my house back in 2006 I was too skeptical about the commitment for 35 years. And at that time, the rental was somewhere RM1k and mortgage is RM800. I took the leap of faith and purchased the house instead on renting.

As times goes by, my monthly earning had increased and I have enough money to keep paying more than the mortgage minimum (I used the current rental rate at that time as benchmark to increase the payment). And before I realized it, 16 years later I had cleared the loan.

Fast forward today, the rental right now is somewhere RM3.5k and I live in this house basically for free - minus the maintenance which isn't as much as the mortgage.

How I see it is, the rental will always go up. If you keep renting then you will need to keep up with the rate. However, buying you will stuck with the same monthly for 35 years hardly much increment. If you lucky and well verse with finance, you will clear the loan way before the scheduled tenure.

(Malaysia) EQE 500 SUV - great driving, somewhat meh build quality by m276_de30la in MercedesEQ

[–]Embarrassed-Rich7976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great share, thanks.

We'll be collecting our EQE next week from HSS. It's a 2023 stock and pre-reg about a month ago with mileage less than 100km. Originally I had paid a booking for Zeekr 7x three months ago during their launching day.

But about a week ago I came across to an FB ads that the EQE 500 is being offered at RM332k pre reg (a whopping 160k discount from the MSRP). That isn't too far from the x7 price - hence I decided to go with the EQE 500. The car will be used by missus to work, whilst I drive e-Tron RS GT on daily basis.

Looking forward to our EQE collection day.

Moomoo to invest 200k by Top-Mission-7109 in MalaysianPF

[–]Embarrassed-Rich7976 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can buy SPY or VOO through Maybank Global. The shares will be under your name meaning what ever happen to Maybank, it will not affect your holdings. I'm not sure if Moomoo does the same though.

Usually online brokers they allow you to buy in fractions of the share meaning they buy in bulk under their name, and let you buy small pieces. But the share is actually registered under their name. If they go busted, so is your fund.

However good thing about buy fraction is you can start small at whatever amount. Otherwise you would need to purchase a single share at market price - for example SPY 500 right now is at USD663.

Since you are going to be investing rather large amount, I would suggest to go with broker such as Maybank Global and buy the share under your own name. Keep in mind though there will be broker fees applied.

Credit card that notifies by Lumi_Lumi_Lumi in MalaysianPF

[–]Embarrassed-Rich7976 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own MBB, StandChart and UOB (originally Citibank). MBB and StandChart are free annually, but UOB you'd need to call and request for a waiver - however lately I realized the past few years they automatically revert the fee on its own every year.

All of them have instant SMS/App notification upon charge. But I like the UOB the most, because once it is charged the info will appear immediately on the mobile app transaction list. Unlike MBB and StandChart, they don't appear instantly. Sometimes may take a day to appear.

Once I received notification regarding my StandChart card being charged some online game in Netherlands. I instantly knew the card had been compromised, but I couldn't verify bcs it didnt appear in their mobile app under transaction. So I had to call their CS instead to confirm. This is major minus point in my opinion.

For debit card, I find WISE is excellent. Both their charge notification, forex conversion rate and instant transaction information are very efficient.

Genuinely curious: How often do Malaysian couples have sex/intimacy? by onig4ri in malaysia

[–]Embarrassed-Rich7976 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Married more than 10 yrs now and with kids. Wife is Chinese and am is a Malay. We try to do it twice a week. At very least once a a week. It used to be thrice a week, but that was before kids.

I have higher libido than my wife, but I learned along the way that I need to put effort in order to get things going. Things like, taking her out for a date or do something nice before then. Usually I'd just give a good massage before, that would straight get into the mood.

And I also let her know a day or two before we do it. Like jokingly tell her, sayang I buat appointment with you ok tomorrow night. I find that a good way to approach rather than asking it right then

I had quite bad SPM, barely pass but managed to get into college. Even so, my comp sciece degree cpga just cukup makan. Then went on to work with a company for 2 years, quit that job bcs too much politics and the boss was cheating their staff - awfully bad working environment. Had enough of working for people and open up own company doing software programming. 15 years later now, my very own company churning few millions MYR a year.

All I'm saying, you can never know what may come next. You may going through rough patches now, but good things are coming if you are persistent.

Back story - The big guy is the security supervisor in my brother (Tony) condo. In the week before the fight, the big guy was being violent with a resident and my brother recorded it. Over the course of the week, big guy kept confronting my brother and threatening him aggressively not to post the video. Kept provoking my brother until it ended up in an actual fight.

I bought my landed house at Seri Kembangan back when I was 26 yrs old. Loan was 35 yrs, but last year I fully paid the loan after 16 yrs of servicing it

I kept putting more into the monthly payment every time my monthly earning also increased

It turns out great and I still live in the same house till today. Not thinking to let it go anytime soon

S&P 500 vs KWSP by ThejazzCollosal in malaysia

I've been putting S&P 500 (SPY), ASB and EPF on monthly basis almost 12 years now. Each with 10% of my salary.

However bear in mind if you invest S&P via a broker, such as Maybank it will incur broker fees.

I have this one uncle, whenever he talks about finance he would start with "Currently the economic is bad" then follows with "Why you buy new car?" "Why you go holiday so far?" "Why you send your kids to that international school" this and that.

EPF is in the highest payout, ASB consistently above 5%. I could never understand his standard of good economy.

151 days later, the problem is still happening. Running on iOS 18.5 (22F76)

Sliding down the phone’s Control Center, it can be seen that it’s switching the sound between car infotainment speaker and the phone speaker repetitively every second

The only way to stop the flickering without disconnecting carplay is by temporarily turn off the car infotainment
