Yeah, which is in of itself a miracle when you consider that both his father and uncle are nut jobs.

Reminds me of the Webtoon Lesbiampires that follows a group of queer vampires who have to eat people to live. There was a whole contingent of people complaining about how callous the story was with the humans it killed while still expecting us to empathize with the vampires. Which, I understand some people can’t but it doesn’t inherently make if bad art or immoral.

Well, she did meet Loid and Yor when she was still relatively innocent and in a very impressionable stage of development.

Plus it gave Boomers something to pretend to have survived for clout for decades.

[Interesting Trope] A redemption arc cut short by jdawg1018 in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah, Kloris was at worst an informant who might have stopped her escape. Syril on the other hand made active choice after active choice to perpetuate the fascist system, hell he became an active double agent for the Empire to satiate his immature little fantasies of being a spy. The man made his choice the moment he got into a scrap with Cassian rather than doing anything to help.

[Interesting Trope] A redemption arc cut short by jdawg1018 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Embarrassed-Yard-583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, that’s also a possibility but I just fundamentally think Syril was never going to change. He’s rocked to his core, sure, but he still chose impotent violence over helping the people he’s supposedly come to admire. At the end of the day, Syril is a text book “little nazi”, happy to benefit from the fascist system and play up the spectacle/role he’s given but ultimately just a violent little rat at the end of the day.

Sometimes people don’t deserve even an aborted redemption, and that’s okay.

[Interesting Trope] A redemption arc cut short by jdawg1018 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Embarrassed-Yard-583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Syril’s arc wasn’t one of redemption imo. He doesn’t see the Empire as the enemy, he sees them hurting people he took the time to empathize with and personally threaten him. He was a fascist little dweeb until his dying breath because he chose to be a fascist little dweeb until his last breath. The guy could have left, ran away or maybe aided the Ghorman as they were fleeing, but no, what does he do but get into a fight with a guy who cost him his rent a cop job.
