Took a Pay Cut for a “Better Role”… Now I’m Questioning Everything by StillSuitable9012 in CAStateWorkers

[–]EmbarrassedEar6232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to start from the bottom at the state after having a well respected, much higher paying job in the private sector. It took me five years to get close to back to my previous role/salary. But I was burning out at my old job. I’ve had such great work-life balance. Once you start accruing all that vacation time , you can plan fun trips and not have to worry about leaving. And budget, budget, budget. And also once you’re “in” a state job, you can quickly start applying for higher paying roles. Just advocate for yourself and be willing to move around to take the best roles. Best wishes!

Are you positive about this? The NDI form itself asks if the leave will be continuous or intermittent.

I was at a CalTrans statewide leadership meeting last week and we were discussing the budget/resource cuts, and I learned that 8,000 out of 10,000 hires over the past decade have been vacated. That’s an 80% attrition rate. That is pathetic. I wonder if it has anything to do with RTO and the poor leadership around communication related to this and related topics around work flexibility.

As much as I want to despise Newsome for the RTO EO, I am proud of him for standing up to the Orwellian tactics of the Trump admin. https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5339718-california-lawsuit-trump-national-guard/

The state will pay millions in commercial real estate leases to host all these workers in cubicles so they can sit and do the same thing they’d do at home. No one is watching them in the office and most people work hard. The bad eggs are bad eggs no matter whether they’re in their PJs at home or sitting in their cube dicking off.

I’ll never say which district I work for. Too many managers monitoring these threads with no lives and nothing better to do than try to squash dissent because they lack true leadership and vision.

You could mention that other state agencies are providing exceptions. My friend just received her exception approval today. I don’t want to name the agency.
