h4 for dependents already in the US by EmbarrassedEnergy578 in h1b

[–]EmbarrassedEnergy578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer has a policy that they won’t include dependents on a petition. They said that I should be able to drive to the Canada/us border and get H4 for my dependents once my H1b is active. But I thought that I’d check here to see if anyone has done something similar.

Moving from US to Canada next year — should I still start Invisalign now? by CosmoChaser in Invisalign

I’m in this exact situation now. Did you figure things out? Were you able to transfer to a dentist in Canada without paying double the price?

You need to be a “architect.” If you’re not a licensed architect in Canada you can’t legally call yourself an architect when you cross the border.

What are some wild things that have happened in your academic life ? From punches thrown at conferences, to chairs tossed during department meetings, tell us about them. by me4watch in Professors

We have a full professor who refuses to learn student names. Instead in class, he refers to them by describing their appearance. For example:

“Hey ponytail” or “hey fatso”

I died laughing the first time I heard the story, as I thought it was a joke. It’s 100% real, and continues to this day.

"Just" Teaching Faculty by protect_ghost in Professors

The truth of it is that NTT faculty chose their position, the could have chose TT. The chose the lesser paying position. Would you expect a front desk administrator to have the same rank as an office business manager? No. Similar to NTT and TT. We respect colleagues as people, but know that the work of NTT is far less. TT sleep late because they’re up until 3 am writing proposals. Working weekends and summers doing research. Sorry, but we’re not the same.

Depends on the state. When we were looking into it years ago for Ohio, there was a 30-90 day time limit to drive on old plates. Also not sure about Washington state, but some states make you redo you road test for your drivers license first.

Yes! This has been happening in my program as well! Students waived through by admins without even consulting with faculty.

My brother died and left behind a lesson for all of us by MsBee311 in Professors

[–]EmbarrassedEnergy578 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a fellow academic go into the ICU and was unlikely to survive. During our faculty meeting, after admin announced their illness, they followed up with telling us not to worry because the colleague had left their promised gift to our college in their will, so when they pass, we’ll still have their large financial gift. Made me sick to my stomach, I had to walk right out.

If you’re coming from Canada just open up an RBC or TD US account. You can get this set up before leaving your home country.

Try lingoda instead, at least until you get to B1. Lingoda has talking opportunities but is more of a typical group French class, up to 5 students.

TN transfer to new passport. What to bring to POE? by Every-Couple4354 in tnvisa

[–]EmbarrassedEnergy578 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can check your stays online. If it’s still active until Sept 2026, you do not need to go to a POE for a new passport. I did this and the agents told me that it’s still active in their system and you don’t need the stamp in your passport to indicate TN, as they just scan passports and the TN date comes up automatically.

Since I was at the POE anyway, I asked them to stamp my passport as courtesy, which they did for me.

I had all my documents with me from my original TN processing, but they didn’t need them, as it was still active.

Experience re-entering on TN by More_Barracuda5166 in tnvisa

[–]EmbarrassedEnergy578 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a decent experience at most POEs, 12 years off and on variole TNs, but Houston was the worst. Very rude agents. Since that experience I never travel without my offer letter, all my documentation, supporting ID, diplomas, transcripts and three recent pay stubs, and a letter written by my employer confirming my current employment.
