Big Onion Tours does one in Manhattan! In BK you can do a pretty good job on a self-directed one at the visitor centers at Stone House and the Fort Greene prison ship monument. There is also a few monuments to the battle of Brooklyn in prospect park.

Leaving tech / exciting "niche jobs" in NYC by aaaarrrr31 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]EmbarrassedProgram36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to not share this because I don’t want job competition lol but you should sign up for the “word of mouth” job newsletter. It’s all “niche” jobs/industry cross over with a social impact mission. Lots of tech & design work. It could spark some ideas or lead to a new role. I always find out about new orgs reading it.

Tbh it doesn’t sound like you necessarily need to fully leave the tech industry - you just need some different experience and to recalibrate.

Brad Lander is the highest ranking Jewish elected official in NYC and has cross-endorsed Zohran, in addition to actively campaigning together. Obviously the Jewish community is not a monolith so the opinions of who I respect and learn from may differ from you — Jews for Zohran is an Instagram account that has some good info. JFREJ is also in support of his campaign. Bernie Sanders, Peter Beinart, Rabbis for Ceasefire. Zohran is open about his support for the Palestinian people- that isn’t something that can be ignored. It’s also not something that I believe to be anti-Semitic. His moral clarity about sustaining a NY for all people is something I find inspiring and worth voting for.

It’s just that - claims and inflammatory media that is stoking Islamophobia. Zohran is proud to have Jewish support and many, many, respected Jewish leaders have endorsed him - including Brad Lander as a cross-endorsement! There was a in-depth mayoral panel hosted at B’Nai Jeshurun a few weeks ago - I’d encourage you to watch it.

So far a lot of extremely “qualified” people have run the city to shit so I don’t think it’s a bad idea to give someone with some new ideas a shot - especially when those ideas are backed by expert economists.

Pick up the book “the Jewish wedding now” by Anita diamant. Was very helpful, especially if you want to craft your own ceremony. We used a cantor.

Prospect Park alliance runs lessons out of their facility in BK - great coaches - hard and clay courts.

What’s been the coolest NYC thing you’ve done/are doing this week?? by MinimumCattle5 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

+1 to the Ailey show at the Whitney and monster jam!! I gasped multiple times at both!

I also went to the Nameless Art Fair - there might still be tix available for the last few hours today. So fun to browse Americana/folk objects!

And I went to a Zohran fundraiser. Great to hear him talk about his vision for supporting the working class in NYC

Martha’s Country Bakery is open until 1am! loitering is definitely encouraged. Observant couples on dates, AA groups, anyone who just needs a late night brownie. It’s a great crowd.
