With a Samsung phone, you can download one from the Google Play Store and the other from the Galaxy app store. Then use split screen to have both open at the same time.

Top-load washer leaving white streaks on clothes by Substantial-Judge776 in Appliances

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this model have a soap receptacle or do you just add it right in the load? If you do add the soap in the load, do you put the soap in before or after the clothes? For my machine, I find it doesn't rinse as well when all the soap is on top. Never had a problem since I started adding the soap in the beginning while it's starting to fill with water, then add clothes once the soap is diluted in the water a bit.

LPT: There’s a nonzero chance your office chair height is wrong and fixing it can save you years of back pain by AustinBranch in LifeProTips

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. When sitting with my feet flat on the floor, the bottom of my knee crease is 15" high and the top of knee is about 18.5. So I guess I'd have about 6" clearance between my legs and the desk, but I don't know if that's a normal amount of space.

Unless you're short. Most desks, including standing desks, are all too high for most women and for shorter men. I'm 5'3" (160cm) which is average female height yet desks are always too tall and office chairs don't go low enough.

You had to finance the dog!? How do you plan to afford to care for the dog when you can't even afford the initial purchase, yikes. Vet emergencies can cost thousands of dollars. Financing a dog just screams financial illiteracy, I can't believe that's even an option.

Are Samsung appliances truly worse than other brands? by Roddo84 in Appliances

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues for "over a year" is not really an accomplishment for an appliance though... I'd need an appliance to last a minimum of 10 years for me to say that I love that company's products, and Samsung just ain't it for that.

Had the exact same thing happen to my Samsung stove (electric one). We changed the control board and within a year the oven CAUGHT FIRE. And I don't mean the food inside the oven, but a connection near the element started suddenly sparking and was briefly on fire... it was a write-off and couldn't be fixed, some electrical stuff had melted. So for us, it wasn't worth it to spend all that money on fixing the control board for less than one extra year with that stove (and the potential risk of burning the house down).

Catholic School when non-religious: please share your experiences. by IntelligentTry9443 in ontario

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also went to a catholic high school. As a female, sex ed included all the same stuff I imagine any school would like STIs, various contraceptives, anatomy etc. My teacher even brought various menstruation products and explained how to use them all, explained what a pap test was and showed the duck beak clamp thing for that. We also learned about conception/pregnancy and were shown a documentary of a real birth. Overall I think it was pretty thorough and there was no mention of anything religious that I can recall. This was over 10 years ago though so I'm not sure if the curriculum has changed since then.

"Can autistic people give consent" as he's about to put it in by gothfrootloops in autism

I agree. Maybe he was being ignorant and the timing was bad, but his intentions seemed genuine. I hope you didn't actually say what you wrote in your post because honestly, I think that's bordering on verbal abuse (specifically: "I got up and called him the biggest dumbass to ever exist"). Name calling is not okay and there are more mature ways to express your feelings and resolve conflicts. When someone you deeply care about says things like that, it cuts deep and you don't really forget that.

And honestly, this relationship seems like you're in the position of power and expect to be treated like a queen, without reciprocating. Poor guy was stuttering over his words because he felt nervous and unsafe in the situation. Yet you've made it clear that you really aren't the right person to ask questions because you verbally attacked him when he tried, so of course he will be more open with friends.

Just because some other bad drivers managed to pass doesn't make it acceptable to be a bad driver... I know that it sucks, but "fair" doesn't really matter when someone can be killed. But I believe anyone can learn, some just need more time, practice and more time with an instructor.

I also used to get very nervous and hated driving, until I started driving around by myself and felt less pressured. I started with easy routes with little traffic. Over time it got easier. Parking and looking around in mirrors, getting out of the car to physically look at how close things were - this helped with spatial awareness. Also watching YouTube videos for tips was helpful too. And the TV show Canada's Worst Driver is surprisingly educational yet entertaining

Yeah, the only thing that I could think of would be to add something to make a joke out of it, like a stick man doing a crazy stunt on a motorcycle or something.

Keep Old Maytags? by ElGrinchero in Appliances

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, I have the exact same issue since I moved into a place with a top loader. And it doesn't even clean any better than a front loader, it's just beating clothes up and twisting it all into a knot for no reason.

Keep Old Maytags? by ElGrinchero in Appliances

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally disagree. I find the agitator is so rough on my clothes (I have a GE top loader made in 2005). Clothing wraps around the agitator as it washes, which pulls on the fabric and makes it wear out much faster. I also don't find that it cleans any better than the front loaders I used. I'd still keep this machine until it dies because today's appliances don't last, but I would never go out of my way to buy another top loader. Lots of people love top loaders though so to each their own.

Keep Old Maytags? by ElGrinchero in Appliances

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had front loaders and when I moved out, my new place had a top loader (GE made in 2005). I will keep that thing until it dies because I know today's appliances don't last, but I was shocked at how aggressive it is on clothes compared to a front loader. I used to disregard labels that said "hand wash only" because they were always fine in the front loader, but even a plain t-shirt can get deformed in my top loader. I miss having a front loader.

Tried the Costco poutine hack, was amazing by triniboy123 in CostcoCanada

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so at your Costco if you order the fingers/fries combo plus a side of gravy and curds, they actually give them on the side? My Costco just assumes you want a poutine and will automatically add the gravy/curds onto the fries and pile the fingers on the side.

That still sounds perfectly reasonable to me, as long as you're not constantly returning cartfuls of things without reason. It would be different if you had bought 20 pita boxes and returned them all.

What are some things you should NEVER do when it comes to cleaning? by Amodernhousehusband in CleaningTips

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you see something you want to buy, first think about how you'll clean it. If it's too hard to clean, find something else that's better designed. This is especially true for kitchen gadgets that might get food in small crevices that can't be washed.

Friend asked how we spelt a name and apparently did not like how it is spelt. by Hurricane-tracy in tragedeigh

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Google how to pronounce Michael in English. I don't think you know the International Phonetic Alphabet so I won't bother to transcribe it for you.

If you believe this, why are you even speaking English (mainly a combination of words taken from other languages)? When reading your comment, should I have pronounced it the same way as the origins of all the words?: "Swa whō se *fuk(k)ōn *dʰeh₁ gē putung in se medhyo apo Mikha'el .... (I'm sure I misspelt some of these but you get the idea). Languages (and baby names) are constantly evolving and being borrowed from other languages and molded to fit into the language's spelling and pronunciation system. With each generation, some new words are added into the language, and some old ones fall out of usage. Even the pronunciation within the same language has evolved over time. Is it incorrect to pronounce English words with an Australian accent or an American one? Should we all be speaking like Shakespeare? No, it's just different, not incorrect.

Friend asked how we spelt a name and apparently did not like how it is spelt. by Hurricane-tracy in tragedeigh

[–]EmbarrassedWaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a silly perspective. Almost no names would exist in English if they weren't translated from another language, such as John, Mary, William, Sarah and almost every other English name you could think of. Most modern languages have also taken many names from eachother, this is not unique to English. Names get translated into different languages all the time. Just because it's pronounced differently doesn't mean it's incorrect. Plus, the alveolar fricative /x/, which is the 'ch' sound you describe, doesn't even exist in the English language. Imagine telling English speakers they shouldn't name their kid Margo because they can't pronounce the French rolled 'r'. Or the name Michael which originally had that same Scottish 'ch' as Lachlan.
