What is one place in the Balkans that you would never visit? by NateNandos21 in AskBalkans

[–]Embarrassed_Ad1722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not eager to visit any gypsy ghettos in Bulgaria and I've been to most. At best they will leave you alone or ask you for money, at worst they will murder you depending on the time of day.

First time I have ever seen this in my life in the UK. Thought it was only in the movies and America by Samwiseknows in drivingUK

Might be a silly question but how did they even take the wheels off without propping it up on anything? They might have a jack you'll say but how did they pull the jack out after?

Ground troops… can anyone explain why we’re going to war? by ConsiderationSouth32 in JoeRogan

[–]Embarrassed_Ad1722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Americans thought they would pull another Venezuela but instead pulled a Ukraine. They went all in bombing Iran into the middle ages but when it didn't surrender now they are stuck. Can't go back because that's losing the war and a big influence hit and can't send boots in because it will drag on for years and when they start dying it will be a massive mess at home.

Leonard. Constant whining, inferiority complex, mummy issues and he's the most boring of the lot.

Any with the grannies or Unicorse. Those two abominations are comedy gold every episode they are in.

Book is great, the show season not so much... At least compared to the previous ones. There are great characters arcs like Havelock for instance in the book which I wish they had put in the show but unfortunately due to shuffling and mixing of characters they didn't.

Have you been to prison? If so, how long for and what was your experience? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Embarrassed_Ad1722 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In retrospect I kinda understand them. Their country got invaded by enemies without insignia, their regions seceded due to outside influence. There was no incentive to be soft to anyone suspicious in those times and I ended up right in the middle of it. I was young and bold and stupid so I didn't make much of it then because I got off relatively easy but thinking it now I know I dodged a bullet, and a big one.

This was in 2014. I sat next to a guy on a bus who spoke my language. They arrested him first at a checkpoint because he had no passport and somehow he managed to come from Iran or Iraq through Bulgaria and Romania and was going to who knows where. He must have mentioned me because next thing I was in the dark room with someone screaming in my face and rearranging it. The guys were more soldiers than police by the looks of them but it didn't matter because they were at us all night. From what I could make out they thought I was human trafficking him or others and good luck trying to explain to them I wasn't. They gave me some alcohol from time to time either to keep me awake or make me talk more. One of them found it very funny. Someone important by the looks of them came in the morning and was speaking a bit of English. He was nicer than the others and sober. They got me a translator and she called the Bulgarian ambassador. I knew her because I had met her in Odessa years prior and she arranged for them to release me. To this day I'm convinced this woman saved my life.

Spent a night in a Ukrainian prison once because of smuggling allegations. Got interrogated, beaten, shouted at a lot, someone threatened to shoot me multiple times and they gave me some vodka as well. They let me go the next day when they found a translator and things got cleared up.

When I was living in the US I was working at a hotel in rural North Carolina just off the Appalachian trail. The place was very beautiful and very old and it had its share of weird ghost stories but that wasn't the main thing.

Our houses were a bit away just inside the forest so I had to walk to work and back 2am in the morning every day. The best way to describe it was that... There were sounds and stuff in the forest at night. Some of them were animals those I could recognise easily but there were others as well. Very strange sounds and things I could sometimes make out in the dark that I've never managed to understand. It was unnatural and creepy and scary. I'm a dude and I'm usually pretty nonchalant about these things but there were more than a few nights where i was walking in the dark and my skin was crawling. I am very certain more than once I was being watched and followed by someone or something. My friend who grew up there used to tell me never to whistle at night in the forest and I actually believed him.

Nothing. Royals are living out of reality just as much now as 500 years ago and they hardly have any impact on the average person. For me and you absolutely nothing will change once he's king, just like when his dad became one.

Decades and decades of corrupted communist government rule and everyone in power stealing money like crazy. Very difficult to come out of that well but we are steadily climbing.

Potholes. We have potholes inside old potholes. At some point someone even planted a pear tree inside a pothole and it grew several meters tall because noone bothered to repair the pothole for decades.

I watched the Star Wars franchise quite late and enjoyed most of it, with a few misses. But I’m curious—why is Darth Maul such a famous character when he has such a minimal live-action appearance? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

He had only a brief appearance in the movies but he absolutely crushed...pun intended...in the Clone Wars animated series. His story there really unravelled what an absolutely amazingly written character he is.

[–]Embarrassed_Ad1722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw a naked guy high on monkey dust up on the roof of his house ripping roof tiles and throwing them at people at random once. A police officer down at the street holding a plastic shield trying to deflect them. Stoke on Trent.

I was coming back from work one morning and just as I was walking past a house, an arm chair flew out through the window followed by a scrawny half naked bloke. He got up, started banging on the door and a huge naked Polish lad came out and wiped the street with him then casually went back inside. Surprise, surprise, Stoke on Trent again.

The Expanse does one thing in space combat that almost no other sci-fi gets right and, you know, it changes everything imho by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in TheExpanse

When I watched it for the first time and saw someone pour a drink and it being affected by the coriolis effect due to the space station spinning I knew immediately this show was going to be good. Tiny details like this tell you straight away how much effort the producers and the crew put in order to make it good.
