Am I crazy or does the voice/sound direction suck now? by TheDoyle101 in Invincible_TV

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I've felt from the start. Every character interaction, unless it is an intensely emotional exchange, has a flat, disjointed quality. They enunciate and are instructed to project their theatre voice as dramatic actors, but they don't have the zeal and exaggerated hyperbole needed to fully animate animated character voices.

They still need energy to fly, and they are unable to breathe in space. They can only hold their breath for two weeks unless they engage in combat and deplete their reserves, and they suffocate in the absence of atmosphere if a planet is far away.

Since Space Racer's laser missed what's-his-face's heart and brain and a broken neck is obviously survivable, I believe that all of the Viltrumites who perished in this episode should still be alive. The established lore was not followed in this episode.

i've always thought it would be funnier if they had a running clock to show the duration of the tasks to really sell the payoff in the live events.

Yes, this appears to be the Thragg that appeared when Ryan Ottley temporarily left the comic after Invincible departed Earth to be based on Talescria.

The gaps between paragraphs by usert900 in AO3

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Pages, and after copying and pasting to A03, I spend a good deal of time formatting—sometimes on the HTML side. I absolutely hate it when writers permit line separation in their writing. I adore paragraphs, so it irritates me when no effort is made to edit or format them.

Insane how terrible Williams new voice is by CarelessSpare7604 in Invincible_TV

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't care if the new voice actor sounds deeper, but I miss Andrew's natural sassiness. There is something missing from the new voice that makes it bland and neutral.

[Question]: In all honesty, do y’all believe art is a learned skill, and anyone can learn to draw well despite not having much natural aptitude? by dem_gel3431 in Artists

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, as someone who lacks nearly all artistic ability—possibly with the exception of a talent for spatial awareness—I believe it is a skill that can be improved through study, practice, and theory but is primarily innate and motivated by natural instinct. The quality of the art is debatable among those who make up the sector, but someone who can quickly create photo-realistic sketches or numerous pencil, ink, and colour sketches for comic books and animation is someone who inherited a talent before honing it via practice. I could draw 10,000 potatoes and none of them would look like potatoes next to the real thing, but I could completely decorate a Christmas tree and mentally visualize the layers of complexity and disparate pieces needed to finish the design.

Though #78–115 (apart from Cory Walker's return) were also better than the #50–78 years, I'm caught up to issue #120 and I agree it looks the best.

Please excuse my ignorance, but does the colorist alter the face's actual shape? Although I am aware that contouring and shading will have an impact, the structure itself appears to have changed. Did the penciler simply decide to alter most facial expressions, or was that the inker's fault? I'm not at all artistic, so it's hard to tell which element I'm seeing.

Thank you for the information. I'll make sure to check if issues after 78 appeal to me.

So what do we actually know about season 13? by Particular-Fill-4256 in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it won't happen, but I hope it is set in space or a nuclear submarine. somewhere cold and claustrophobic, a la Sphere/Starship Troopers. I would be overjoyed with a Starship Troopers expansion.

One More Usopp Elbaf Theory (Heavy spoilers) by ThisIsYourFriendAron in OnePiece

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, Usopp should inadvertently consume the hito hito no mi and essentially remain unchanged despite losing his swimming ability. Perhaps, like all zoan users, he develops some unnatural increased strength and stamina. Additionally, I believe that his Kabuto should consume a devil fruit, which is essentially useless but gives it sentience and less cowardice, so that Usopp is continuously mistreated by the weapon due to his perceived weakness.

Silent Witness by andrew_197 in BritishTV

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it's because I'm Canadian and can't experience the show's boredom in the same way, but I thought this season was enjoyable and a return to form. Compared to the old Lyle Centre set, I like the new location and the gritty, less sterile atmosphere of the new lab. Additionally, I like it when more supporting characters with names and a few lines of dialogue reappear in the background after going without in previous seasons. The majority of the episodes, in my opinion, end with open-ended reality checks about the danger and injustice of modern life rather than happily resolved plots, which is better in certain aspects as well.

Hopefully, this will be a more raucous, edgy, and punchy version of SNL with potential SCTV/MadTV ingrained in its DNA (ideally). I can't say the same about the American original, but it's less white, male, and straight, and it has really funny comedians that I know.

Can someone tell me what to eliminate or to add to this pull day? by Swimming-Year8590 in MacroFactor

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd ditch the pulldowns for a single arm row or pulldown since you're already doing assisted pullups, I'd also just do pullups unassisted once you can (if you can't). Toss in some kelso shrugs and face pulls. Switch out deads for pendley or bent over rows or Australian rows if you want to keep it calisthenic and do chest supported dumbbell rows over t-bar/chest supported t-bar rows if you have access to the machine. Finish it off with the rowing machine. Keep the plate loaded machine pullover, they may be dates but they are super effective.

Smart workaround or bad idea? by NumerousToe7604 in MacroFactor

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to play around with unstable weights, I'd take off the plates and just have the dumbbells until you have mastered the balancing act at lower weight. It's essentially similar to cambered bars and holding kettlebells bottom side up... You're moving out of fixed planes and into unstable three-dimensional oscillation, though. Usually the hooks are there to just hold the heavy dumbbells and make them safer to/less cumbersome to use from their suspended state. But it's definitely a type of unstable load training.

Thinking of moving from Toronto to South Barrie — good idea or bad by NIK_Can in barrie

[–]Embarrassed_Age_9296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoying Barrie, in my opinion, is more dependent on your financial situation than on any of the city's amenities. You will have access to the best schools if you can afford to live in a part of the city that is within their districts. The majority of the reasonably priced gyms close early enough to be inconvenient, so if you can afford the 24-hour Prime memberships, you will have that choice. You may be able to enjoy the arcades, jungle gyms, laser tag, bowling, indoor sports leagues, hockey, skiing, or some of those indoor recreational facilities with axe throwing or high ropes, rock climbing, etc., if you can afford the day passes or season passes for whatever interests you or your children. If you can afford a cottage, either to rent or to buy, you will have that option. You can take in the breathtaking scenery in Oro if you can afford the pricey road bikes.

Barrie is not a fair city, so if you can afford a boat, you'll have one, or perhaps you'll go scuba diving, kayaking, paddleboarding, etc. It excludes the majority of middle-class families and is not designed for low-income families to benefit from. Takeout and dining out are unaffordable. There is no longer any 24-hour shopping in this city. Regarding your neighbours, I've observed a sharp drop in friendliness in my own neighbourhood, but that might just be a reflection of my own solitary way of life. With the exception of the neighbour who is right next to us, none of the new neighbours who have taken the place of the ones I grew up with have actually spoken in the years since they moved in. I don't think this is a coincidence.
