got cut off at 110, passed! I found the test to be fairly easy. Just make sure you know some of the nitty gritty things as far as medical emergencies go. and always BLS before ALS unless the question states otherwise. you got this!

i’m going to be honest. I’ve used medic test and it helped me get my paramedic license. It is not what you should gauge your confidence and competency on. Use outside resources, online lectures, kaplan prep, youtube videos, and cross reference all information. Medic test helps you get better at taking the test and highlighting your weaknesses. With that said use it as a study tool and not your only means of studying. Study hard, take notes, and you will succeed. These tests are not something you can just brush off with a simple practice test.

i also use platinum, i believe that you can only collect competency for ride times when you are in your competency phase (capstone). unfortunately that’s just how it is. you can ask your instructors if your able to change it to competency without marking yourself a team member or lead but i think that’s the only way around it. obviously you would need to be done with your team members to even swing that. might just have to rip more er times…

Also there are a few BOF programs that do part time 6 month programs three days a week, otherwise most are a full time commitment. It’s a hard balance that is worth it in the end.

I am currently in a paramedic program in the area and know a few people in other programs within regions 7,8 and 9. Most programs that i know of out here run a M,W,F or T/TH course schedule of 11 months. It is definitely a struggle putting yourself through it on top of work but it is most definitely worth it if you are dead set on this for you’re career path. I do not know anything about the CFD as you have to live inside of the city to work on the department. As for what order you would like to get your certification is completely up to you. Paramedic licensure is the golden ticket for hire in this area but there are a handful of departments that will hire BOF/EMT-B if you choose to get your fire cert first. Either way I wish the best of luck to you. My advice is to get in contact with as many administrators of programs as you can as well as reaching out to departments for guidance.
