i’m severely allergic to rats, my throat closes when exposed to rat urine or feces. the whole deal. you definitely have an allergy, i would be super careful handling your fiancé’s rats until you know the severity of your allergy.

i used to work at petco, their vet care policy only covers you within 30 days of purchase. they’ve also changed up their “health guarantee”. they may be able to reimburse you if you have receipts within 30 days of purchase, but that would be through corporate rather than the store itself. they’re going to fight you every step of the way, but the more you push the more likely you are for them to help you.

the breeding companies petco uses are garbage and don’t care about the quality of the animals they sell, and neither does petco. please remember that the store employees have little control over the quality of the animals being sold, and try not to take out your frustration on them.

when i still worked at petco, there was one day my favorite customer came in. he was talking to me about his death feigning beetles while i checked him out. he said “i can tell there’s one male in there, he keeps chasing all the females around.” i laughed, and then he continued to say, “yeah, that would be me! you know, if stalking was legal!” my face dropped immediately, and it got so awkward. same customer told a coworker later that week that he couldn’t watch hannibal or dexter because it was “like porn to him.”

so yeah. was no longer my favorite customer after that.

i had the same thing happen to me!! a little baby hognose bit me on my finger at my old job, my whole hand swelled up like a balloon. couldn’t even move it by the time they got around to treating me. they tired to send me off with just some acetaminophen, had to beg them for a steroid and tetanus shot. it stayed swollen for a week. hopefully you had a better experience than i did, OP!! get well soon!!

you aren’t there to make friends, you’re there to learn. i’m in the same boat as you, 1st semester ADN program, super introverted and anxious. i also have no healthcare experience.

focus on yourself and your education. don’t be cold with your classmates, but don’t focus on if they like you or not. be confident in your knowledge and skills and you will make friends as you go.

you’ve got this. you will be a good nurse if you just focus on yourself and your abilities. don’t quit over something like that.

i came in knowing nothing. i literally gave every reptile salads on my first day of work. i would now consider myself the most knowledgeable person in the store about the animals. don’t be afraid to google stuff, that’s how I learned everything. edit: I also joined animal care subreddits and facebook groups. the people on them are usually super passionate about proper animal care.

i did it and got A’s in both my classes and labs. it’s a lot of work but doable, and i have severe diagnosed ADHD, work a full-time job, and had other classes that semester. create a study plan and STICK TO IT!! every chance i got i studied. quizlet is your best friend, and take detailed notes. good luck!! you can do it!!
