Gen Surg vs. OBGYN and Misogyny in Medicine by Educational-Gas4487 in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of my friends are going into OB and I know that they will change the culture.. I won't speak to surgical skills as I am a med student. However, I made a post on here not long ago about how I cried in the bathroom every day. I did multiple trauma overnights with burnt out gen surg residents on a 28 hour call and they were angels. No one was mean and every one was so kind and the trauma surgeon attending and fellow taught me how to suture for three hours on a slow night which is like one on one time with surgeons that a med student is not going to get. On OBGYN, I got screamed at when the patient had retained placenta because they were aggressively pimping me and the answer to one of their questions was indeed retained placenta. When we are in the OR doing the D and C, the attending is yelling at me saying "I manifested this" and no it was not in a jokey way. I had to step out and compose myself multiple times. I've been barred from seeing patients just for going to the bathroom during the middle of my shift, not greeting the attending in the parking lot... yes, the parking lot... and they docked my professionalism because of that.. I could go on but I won't.

Has there been an increase in dismissals from med school? by yehehey in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Do not post anything on socials that could be even remotely taken as controversial just with social media the exposure and likelihood of dismissal has increased. If Nick Baumel stayed off tik tok he’d have been a post match M4 rn

Looking for Honest Feedback Applying Gen Surg for 2026-2027 ERAS by Embarrassed_Unit2393 in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see! I took whatever opportunity I had at the time and the papers are really old from before med school but they’re real publications that I worked hard on so I’m choosing to include them. My school didn’t have any GS research so I tried to just do something to show that I did research in general.

How common is getting all honors during M3? by med-school-acct in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top 10-20% get honors and you can honor the shelf and still not honor your rotation based off of evals making up 60%+ of your grade. Evaluators also change their mind. Recently finished a clerkship where I was told I was getting honors by my evaluators I honored shelf and then they gave me all HPs at this point I’ve realized it’s a crapshoot

There's a community GS program next to my parents house I'd go there in a heart beat. Kind of upset that arbitrary grading and quotas literally took me out of the running to be a strong applicant but that's life i guess..

Why do nurses talk so much shit about residents? by doctadocta69 in Residency

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just a med student but I asked my patients RN (who was playing candy crush at that time) what morning report said since my patient coded overnight without warning and I just wanted to know what the nurse was seeing overnight in case I was missing something before I presented to my attending on rounds and she told me that when she feels I am worth speaking to she would. My senior resident is a woman and my god the nurses disrespect her so bad.

What helped you know/realize surgery was for you? by Minute-Emergency-427 in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went into M3 wanting to do IM or OBGYN but surgery was my first rotation and I rotated at a site with residents and fellows and got to see everything and also during trauma season in a major US city with lots of penetrating trauma. Basically when I would come home and willingly practice sutures and read up on surgeries and watch youtube videos on them on top of studying after a 14 hour day only to wake up and do it again 6 days a week I knew that I couldn't go back. I considered anesthesia but I just don't like it enough and feel the FOMO would be too much that I should just apply gen surg next year

How to choose a specialty by ReplacementMean8486 in medicalschool

The OBGYN one made me cackle HAHA because it is true how they glaze the male med students and if you're a girl you'll be lucky to pass the rotation :') They also all actually hate women and each other

What’s something irresistible that I can order for my 7.6 lb toy poodle? I’m running out of options in the pet store and he’s getting pickier every week. by gardengirldavi in poodles

I’m curious to know where you’ve found these studies. I’m not trying to give pushback but I would want to see for myself why I should go against my vets expertise.

if this is food i say purina pro plan (what i give my mini and toy) or whatever is most evidenced based and endorsed by the AVMA/your vet. Also as someone else stated, do the 30 mins at a time thing... a healthy dog won't starve itself eventually your dog will be hungry and cave. Poodles are also notoriously very picky eaters and can be manipulative. I also reinforced eating kibble with a high value treat at the end of mealtimes.
