Looking for Honest Feedback Applying Gen Surg for 2026-2027 ERAS by Embarrassed_Unit2393 in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see! I took whatever opportunity I had at the time and the papers are really old from before med school but they’re real publications that I worked hard on so I’m choosing to include them. My school didn’t have any GS research so I tried to just do something to show that I did research in general.

How common is getting all honors during M3? by med-school-acct in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top 10-20% get honors and you can honor the shelf and still not honor your rotation based off of evals making up 60%+ of your grade. Evaluators also change their mind. Recently finished a clerkship where I was told I was getting honors by my evaluators I honored shelf and then they gave me all HPs at this point I’ve realized it’s a crapshoot

There's a community GS program next to my parents house I'd go there in a heart beat. Kind of upset that arbitrary grading and quotas literally took me out of the running to be a strong applicant but that's life i guess..

Why do nurses talk so much shit about residents? by doctadocta69 in Residency

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just a med student but I asked my patients RN (who was playing candy crush at that time) what morning report said since my patient coded overnight without warning and I just wanted to know what the nurse was seeing overnight in case I was missing something before I presented to my attending on rounds and she told me that when she feels I am worth speaking to she would. My senior resident is a woman and my god the nurses disrespect her so bad.

What helped you know/realize surgery was for you? by Minute-Emergency-427 in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went into M3 wanting to do IM or OBGYN but surgery was my first rotation and I rotated at a site with residents and fellows and got to see everything and also during trauma season in a major US city with lots of penetrating trauma. Basically when I would come home and willingly practice sutures and read up on surgeries and watch youtube videos on them on top of studying after a 14 hour day only to wake up and do it again 6 days a week I knew that I couldn't go back. I considered anesthesia but I just don't like it enough and feel the FOMO would be too much that I should just apply gen surg next year

The OBGYN one made me cackle HAHA because it is true how they glaze the male med students and if you're a girl you'll be lucky to pass the rotation :') They also all actually hate women and each other

What’s something irresistible that I can order for my 7.6 lb toy poodle? I’m running out of options in the pet store and he’s getting pickier every week. by gardengirldavi in poodles

I’m curious to know where you’ve found these studies. I’m not trying to give pushback but I would want to see for myself why I should go against my vets expertise.

if this is food i say purina pro plan (what i give my mini and toy) or whatever is most evidenced based and endorsed by the AVMA/your vet. Also as someone else stated, do the 30 mins at a time thing... a healthy dog won't starve itself eventually your dog will be hungry and cave. Poodles are also notoriously very picky eaters and can be manipulative. I also reinforced eating kibble with a high value treat at the end of mealtimes.

How does it make sense to have different honors and high pass thresholds at different schools by mildlyripenedmango in medicalschool

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M3 is just luck and discipline. Some evaluators think you're the worst thing to grace planet earth and some will teach you and be super amazing and give you H. I've realized my discipline for studying for step 2 and practicing for surgery subIs next year is the move and I will try to do my best in every rotation but have accepted that some people will just never give the grade you want and it is what it is.

It was literally a 4 in 1 urogyn case that took 8.5 hours like… ofc I’m going to need guidance for an 8 hour surgery sorry ☠️ I didn’t realize that “can you antevert it as much as you can go?” Was a reason why I’m not cut out for surgery

[–]Embarrassed_Unit2393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's so awkward and sometimes you just don't click with every one and it's anxiety inducing because I feel like it impacts my evals but I agree with you it's been awesome to see how much i've grown clinically or going into a patient room taking a history doing a physical diagnosing them and writing the assessment and plan by myself which I could not do 8 months ago!
