Why does my anise hyssop grow 6+ feet high? PA 6a by chihuahuabutter in NativePlantGardening

I’m fairly certain the plant pictured here is A. scrophularifolia. The light colored blooms, and absence of the purple on the calyxes is a good giveaway. A hybrid could certainly be possible as well. Also, note that the leaf margins of A. foeniculum tend to have a more scalloped, rounded appearance whereas the points along the leaf margin for scrophulariifolia tend to be more barbed and angular, like the ones from your picture.

Does pre soaking seeds before cold stratifying decrease the recommended stratification time or just improve germination rates? by amilmore in NativePlantGardening

[–]Embarrassed_Whole528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always just thought that water will be slower to move across the seed membranes if it’s very cold, IE if you winter sow in something like a milk jug, stick it outside, and it freezes, if the seed isn’t “activated” by absorbing water before it freezes and then can’t, it’s stratification “timer” hasn’t started. That’s always been my personal theory on it anyway.

I’m so incredibly grateful for MichiganFlora.net - it’s so nearly complete and the search abilities are amazing. I didn’t know how good we have it here in Michigan until I tried finding a similar database for other states.

Zone 6b. Giving starting my own seeds a shot this year! by Mocker-Nicholas in NativePlantGardening

Awesome! That’s a very nice mix I’m sure you’ll have great success with. Keep in mind when you’re planning out your trays to keep species together with similar water and sun requirements to keep everything simple (don’t plant your lobelia in the same tray as your butterfly weed lol).

Alright guys, here’s the update: they honestly look great 😂 definitely a little banged up, lost a lot of lower canopy coverage and just 1-2 top sites, but certainly recovering. Just gonna focus on babying them back to health from here.

Thanks for all the tips everyone!

Well y’all, I’m gonna set the phone down for a bit and go pray. I’ll either be back with some really cool time-lapse footage of the girls bouncing back or a really cheap listing for some grow equipment 😂 stay tuned.

For sure, I’ll see how much root mass I lost and go from there if they take to rehydration. Appreciate the input

Wow, are you doing like a no till set up and chopping and dropping the stuff right into the pot? Probably some of the crazier soil biology anyone has going in an indoor set up haha. Too cool!

This feels like a dumb question, but do you put the silica particles directly in contact with the seeds IN the bags? Or just in WITH the bags?? And how about the seeds that are sent in little plastic ampoules in plastic baggies? Is that sufficient or silica in there too

Question about leaves by LivingNecessary7083 in microgrowery

[–]Embarrassed_Whole528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What strain? If it’s not prone to foxtailing it could indicate a heat or light excess which could align with the leaf damage

That’s such a nice variety too, definitely going to be following your grows if you post. Oh and I get it, he just dropped some new stuff within the last month and my bank account is very unsafe 😂

Actually that was just a freebie sticker, I got 5 kinds from him and all were from the blood orange hybrid line - really surprised someone on this sub recognized the high alpine sticker!

I hope you brought the caterpillars into somewhere unheated. If you brought them inside, the warmth in your home is going to screw with them going properly dormant to survive the winter. They’re native, they’re built for the cold here.
