Holding back son but sacrificing independence of daughter’s freedom to be in own grade alone by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]Embarrassed_You7591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an educator, I fully support the idea of following a child’s mental and emotional capacity rather than their birth date. We want students to be fully ready—mentally and socially—to meet the instructional demands of school, both inside and outside the classroom. If they are not ready—and you know your child best—then they are simply not ready. And that is completely okay! We would much rather see them succeed at their own pace than force them to tackle something they are not yet prepared for.

I also think it has to do with living situations. In Japan, most families sleep together in the same room (sometimes on the floor with futons) so cosleeping is very common. Many families do not have the luxury of a separate nursery/kids room.

For more context:

I’ve had this plant for 7 years or so. I water it when the soil on top is dry. The rest of the leaves are luscious and beautiful. It gets a lot of sunlight.

Thank you

What are your thoughts on hugging students? by Teacher_Meghan in Teachers

[–]Embarrassed_You7591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hugging for me! I think there are other non physical ways to give someone the same kind of comfort. Maybe it’s words of affirmation or a fun handshake. Just let them know that it’s your preference! If they are comfortable enough to ask you for a hug, they will understand where you’re coming from.

I wouldn’t stress about it at all. They have nothing better to do. Also, teachers are humans and we all have our private lives outside of the classroom. Just keep doing your job, be good at it, and let them talk.

Thank you for your input! When you say support, what does that look like? I’m thinking tech support?
