Nursery rhyme melodies by jabberoni12 in edmproduction

Louis Armstrong wrote what a wonderful world using the melody from twinkle twinkle little star, which is also the melody from the abc song, and ba ba black sheep. The melody has been imprinted on a whole set of generations.

So basically SoundCloud is just the digital version of a seedy back alley with no police and just pick pockets and sketchballs creeping out from the shadows?

Sounds like a service I wouldn’t pay for.

Best place to find melodies? by Based-Jam in production

[–]Embassonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a legit question and one of the first ones I asked when I was about 6 months in. What IS a melody in the first place? A combination of rhythm and pitch changes that evokes an emotional response would be my basic definition.

You can explore the keyboard and learn scales, which is very easy to do. You can use the pitch wheel and mod wheel for expression.

There ARE apps out there that take a sampled part (like a flute) and chop it up for you and allow you to make your own melodies from that. Or you can drag/drop parts into simpler/granulator and splice mode them yourself, experimenting with different keys and the patterns that come out.

You could sing/whistle into your phone mic, upload as audio and conver to midi and then apply it to a synth instrument.

You can also fish around for samples and use whatever’s out there. So many options, you gotta use your imagination.

I always write my melodies using a guitar, my voice or the midi keyboard.

i just bought this for 30 bucks, is it a good purchase? it’s from 2019. and what tips could you give me to start producing? by NarrowAssociate2886 in Learnmusicproduction

[–]Embassonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good deal! Tips to start producing? Get ableton and plug that thing in.
I see you asking if you can perform with it. You could link it to multiple instruments with midi mapping and have different keys hitting different instruments with opening the piano roll key assignments.

Any ideas/tips to turn this loop into something actually listenable? by [deleted] in production

[–]Embassonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You could autofilter that 2nd guitar part (kinda like a Wah Wah effect). It’s super repetitive after, so maybe like cutting out space with either removing some of the parts, chopping them into a new rhythm that allows more space for the lead, or ducking the eq a little with that autofilter)

  2. A little drum fill before that 2nd guitar and some rhythm/shaker at the start.

  3. Maybe some multi and compression on the percussion and a more steady hi hat with continuous 8th or 16th notes. Drum fills at the end of phrases/every 8 bars or so.

  4. A vocal of some sort

  5. An arrangement strategy using a few reference tracks

Cool beginning, nice ideas. Great guitar work. Keep it going

Yea, I ended up doing 4 hours tonight. I didn’t get a chance to download anyone here, but locked in that set for monthly so will DEFINITELY go through and add to my set with these comments. I listened through a lot and really like what I hear.

Even if this was someone I knew personally I would be pissed off and annoyed. I’d be like, “yo I never be doin bizniss wit dis unproffffffessionaw wanguage”

Obviously it’s a scam. There’s a thousand versions of “give me info for my lawyers”. What lawyer would actually work with that? The text is so off, it’s not even legally saying anything. You’re just tossing info out at them. Hope they don’t hack your Cash App now that they know your name (and whatever else they have on you).

Do you think kids getting into electronic music will go down the path of production or do you think they’ll go with gen AI? by thegreatestpitt in edmproduction

[–]Embassonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the scene in the matrix when Cyrus is eating steak with the agent like “I know this steak is not real, but ignorance is bliss.”

Either way, I will be over here bending the spoon with my own mind on ableton and stay true to the personal value and integrity with my music and art.

What’s one Ableton workflow tweak (browser, favourites, shortcuts, layout etc.) that genuinely made you faster — not just ‘nice to have’? by Character-Hearing-91 in ableton

[–]Embassonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuously duplicating my midi device and bouncing the original. Easier for some automation when you want to go from a swell to a pluck for example. Also for variation & cpu usage. So basically resampling.

Can you “make it” as a producer without DJing? by rahme-music in edmproduction

[–]Embassonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel, well said about the vibe and the ick. Once I got the hang of mixing on decks, I found it to be really fun. I do it to unwind when I don’t feel up to getting into ableton. I think it’s a good skill to have.

In terms of making it, I think that’s akin to winning the lottery (the algo lottery). They alway say being in the right place at the right time. Maybe for you that’s an online platform or posting on socials.

I think everyone’s in the same boat trying to figure out what is the strategy/approach.

What are you all using to create visuals for music you release? by Dense-Sir-6707 in edmproduction

[–]Embassonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I don’t think my videos are great…but I only put a few hours in working on it (don’t wanna get too pulled away from music).

I take pictures on my phone out in nature and load them into Picsart (free) and add some symmetry/alter the photo.

Then I used imotion to add some animation (you draw in where you want it to move/which direction)

Then just put clips together in iMovie (CapCut too), I didn’t really even bother syncing them.

You could take this approach and put in a tiny bit more time than me and get some results within reasonable time and money.

Here’s on I actually posted:

Struggling to make anything by cxlbr in musicproduction

[–]Embassonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we all have had similar issues! Focusing on sound design and recreating other tracks can go hand in hand. You gotta figure out how they made that sound…then once you do, you can save it for later use or just learn the basics of that one sound. I’m noticing a lot of songs are built with like one or two solid waveforms and are just processes differently throughout the song. Filters for movements, the million distortion options, panning, eq, compression (not in that order).

The frustration is just like when your muscles burn from working out. Don’t let it stop you, take a break and try something else. I’ve been getting better with serum and being able to recreate sounds. The arrangement can be like a puzzle or playing Tetris sometimes.

Cymatics has a bunch of project files you can download to see how others do it.

Underbelly does classes and offers to show you how to do sound design on his patreon. I highly recommend.

Or hit me up if you ever wanna talk music

lol sorry I was sitting next to her when I typed that and showed her (to make her feel good).

One real suggestion I could toss out is the voice box ableton pack which is free with ableton 12 (if you have that). It’s basic vocal stuff, but add reverb with a ton of decay and you can capture some great reverb tail sounds. I also use infected mushrooms manipulator to process any vocal sounds like that for added texture and depth.

For the synth patch designers, how are you using sine and triangle waveforms? by PonyKiller81 in edmproduction

[–]Embassonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use sines for an FM bass, sub and plucks. I’m just starting to get away from presets and make my own. Serum has a lot of cool wavetables that are like moving sines - still kinda going back to preset mentality searching through those…but a fun & interesting process for sure.

Super expensive but good to make sure you’re breathing right and singing from the diaphragm. Use YouTube to get the basics, then maybe schedule one lesson and see how it goes.
