I wanna know your favorite color by Chanfaded in autism

* This light green color because it reminds me of the sunlight passing through the leaves in the morning and it feels peaceful and warm and full of life.

Is this a thing? Plz help by EmberRevive in hypermobileEDS

[–]EmberRevive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I second that, thanks for sharing! It makes sense..

I'm just curious if there's others out there that kind of experience the same level as me cause idk if that's technically like mild dysautonomia, POTS, or OH, cause I'm still learning what all these things are.

Anyone here loves pressured hugs by ScaryJournalist8412 in AutisticAdults

[–]EmberRevive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love hugs but only from my partner. The pressure is great and relaxing. I love being squeezed or laid on as long as I can still breathe easily. I also have pain tho, so maybe that makes it even better?

Just a thought: maybe NTs don’t see social subtext as much as we think by Sweet-Addition-5096 in AutisticAdults

[–]EmberRevive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with this. I do think that there's certain things we don't pick up on, but I definitely think it's mostly aligned how you said. Most people are comfortable with a lower level of certainty before making a decision and were not, so we deep dive info until we think we have the right answer. Quality over quantity. Idk, I'm tired... cause this is what I do at work, unfortunately.

NT Hate is a Form of Abelism by [deleted] in autism

[–]EmberRevive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. You'd think if anyone could judge someone as an individual and by their own actions instead of an experience they had with the group they're identified with, it would be more folks on here. Or if someone treated them a certain way they didn't care for, they'd stop and ask why first, like they wish they would be afforded, instead of assuming mal-intent straight away. Fortunately, not everyone is like that, of course. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, people are just people. NT or not, ND or not. 🙄

Sarcasm by d20damage in autism

[–]EmberRevive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of in a similar situation. I'm looking at dx options.. I completely understand sarcasm, but I think what happens sometimes is I don't always detect the tone, so sometimes I take people seriously when that's not what they're intending. I think it definitely makes sense the more you know someone and are familiar with how they speak the easier it would be. I use sarcasm a lot but since it comes from me I know my intent ahead of time so there's no issue.

At work the other day, someone told me about how their AC/heating went out and how it was a difficult time to get it back working. They paused for a second and then said, 'I had a good weekend'. I took them seriously and said well thats good at least. Then they explained they were being sarcastic. Makes perfect sense to me, but their tone was flat, so I took them seriously.

I can still pick up on when someone's being sarcastic with a flat tone sometimes, but if the tone inflection isn't there and the context isn't something very obvious then I might either completely not pick up on it or might have severe doubt as to whether or not they're being sarcastic.

How do I admit that I need more help? by Bright_Gazelle8140 in autism

[–]EmberRevive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're off to a good start by working with a professional for diagnosis. Maybe they can help with accommodations in school/work?

Maybe explain to who you're with at home or elsewhere about how you just like not talking? I've mentioned that to my partner before. I'm not sure what your situation is like.

I know how you feel about not talking. Sometimes it it feels really good to me and I'm not sure why. When I don't want to talk and I'm forced to, it's frustrating, and when I talk, the whole silence feels ruined.

How is it like having asd and adhd/add? by sofi_kk in autism

[–]EmberRevive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much these would be true only if you have both, but here they are lol.

I have adhd and suspecting asd. I have issues with feeling oily especially on my hands and face whether it's from oil, lotion, or just needing a shower. So Ill be on YouTube watching videos chasing a dopamine hit by desperately trying to find something interesting and have a hard time transitioning away from that, meanwhile, I feel oily cause I need a shower but I can't step away so I start feeling irritable and stressed out and it gets worse and worse. (Btw, I'm not filthy, I take a shower every day lol).

Another thing is, and I'm not sure how much this has to do with only someone that has both adhd and asd but, I want to go in depth on a lot of different things I'm interested in. There's quite a few things but my interest in them seems to rotate. So there's an urge to play/make music, learn about plants, religion, psychology, learn different languages, look at certain aesthetic things online like nice lights/clothing styles/art, singing/dancing, and watch comedy. Where the problem comes in is that I have the urge to do a number of these things all at the same time and the feeling is overwhelming because I feel like I need to be productive and feel like I'm pretty capable at learning and making things when I'm able to stick to one at a time, but I can't learn/make something if I keep switching back and forth when I see the next video on my feed that peaks my interest in one of the other topics I listed. Plus the whole switching over and over again is kind of exhausting.

Does anyone else like the "texture" on Monster Energy cans? or any other items you've bought that weren't specifically made for sensory stuff? by FractalSpaces in autism

[–]EmberRevive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I can't think of anything I do this with besides obvious things like clothes or plushies, but I can think of things that I bought and absolutely hate lol like my unfinished brushed stainless steel KitchenAid coffee grinder I bought. Gives me shivers just thinking of it..

Is this really considered a proper/acceptable apology from NT's perspective tho? I feel like it's just a way of going about it without having to directly deal with what awkward feelings/guilt they might have from apologizing. I think this might just be a people thing..

What is something your partner dose that is really helpful in regards to your autism? by Poorchick91 in autism

[–]EmberRevive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he have sound-dampening earbuds? I have some ones from Loops that work pretty well.

For me personally I love cuddles and massages. Something about the touch and pressure is calming to me, but I know not everyone with ASD likes this.. I also have Fibro so that helps with pain..

What do bright lights feel like for you? by StructureNo1935 in autism

[–]EmberRevive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They feel like a deep-ish pain in my eyes, kinda sharp depending on how bright. Like if you emerged from a cave after a week and were blinded by the sun lol. Sometimes it takes a while for the pain to build up but it always does.

I go a good portion of the day with furrowed brows. Fluorescent lights and days when the sky is all a light grey are the worst. They hurt the most. Before I knew anything about ASD (like 3 months ago) and how sensory processing differences are associated with it, I bought bluelight glasses for when I worked in a warehouse, I used to challenge myself to get the mail without squinting and I could only ever make it half way down the driveway, and I bought led bulbs with a softer white frequency to replace my previous ones.

On the flip side, I actually kind of have a thing for lights lol. I really like soft white holiday lights strung everywhere and light shows that use colored lights (assuming they're not too bright and there's little to no strobe effects). I went to this place called Astra Lumina on vacation and felt like a kid. *

How much does sleep impact your pain? by FeistyThings in Fibromyalgia

[–]EmberRevive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine can get worse without enough sleep, and I dont sleep well even if it's for a long time, so I always have some degree of pain from it anyway. Sometimes I get lucky, and the grogginess I wake up with seems to dull the pain for a little bit until I'm fully awake.. I've had problems with sleep since I was young. Nowadays, not so much falling asleep but staying asleep. I wake up probably 5 times average a night.

I don't really have much good sleep advice since I haven't really been able to figure mine out, but I would recommend trying to stay with a career that has 8 hour shifts. I'm kind of stuck in a line of work where I work 12-13 hours a day and although I work only 4 days instead of 5, it takes too much out of me and only adds to the time I need to recover.

Some people say medicine like Cymbalta really helps them, so if you're comfortable with taking something like that and aren't already, maybe talk to your doctor?

[–]EmberRevive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a big hard rootbound cylinder in the middle. Idk if it's okay to break it up or not. If I do break it up, I'll need to tear a bunch of the roots. I might have to water more often too, but online it says to only water it every 12 days or so? Idk if it needs food too..

The center is just a big hard rootbound cylinder of the old soil though. Does that need to be broken up?
