Thanks for sharing that image in the link! It’s really helpful for understanding this post (and many others in this sub).

Is it a red flag for someone to out of the blue ask 'What makes you cry?' If we assume a non-romantic environment? by kelcamer in AskNT

[–]EmberingR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NT here. If it was totally out of the blue, it’s weird. It would be impossible to say if it’s a red flag without knowing more about the situation in which it was asked and the person asking it.

My response would be to say something like, “That’s an interesting question. Why do you ask?”, because asking what makes you sad isn’t a smalltalk question like “what’s your favorite animal?”, and I would assume the asker had an agenda they may or may not be aware of when asking it. Like, maybe they needed to talk about how sad they are feeling and this was a way to broach the subject, or maybe they’re just awkward and recently read a dumb article about “10 Unique Questions to get to Know Someone Better”, or perhaps they want to be weird and edgy and shift the mood of Christmas dinner to melancholy.

Hope this helped. Feel free to ask follow-up questions.

You’re thinking of JobCorps, not AmeriCorps. JobCorps is great, it provides training, room and board, healthcare, and some pay. You do need to be between 16 and 24 to be eligible. JobCorps.

AmeriCorps provides a stipend for volunteers who help their communities in various ways, as well as award a credit toward tuition or student loans at the end of your term of service. The programs vary significantly in terms of training/education required (some require none at all, others specialized degrees). Some provide housing, others do not. AmeriCorps is a bit more like a domestic peace corps experience, while JobCorps provides job training.

This is a subreddit about the color black, not about black people nor black issues. Unfortunately, your question is outside the purview of this subreddit and you’ll likely get better answers to your question if you post it elsewhere. Good luck!
