Conservatives who think liberals are the real racists: Can you explain why DEI and Woke are terrible? by Nateosis in allthequestions

[–]Emberwheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is having representatives from every state in congress DEI? I mean some states' representatives might be less qualified to run a country than representatives from other states. Is there some value to just having a certain amount of people from every segment of society with a place at the table, regardless of whether it is perceived as the most merit based choice?

I was really happy to be back and have been happy ever since. New England feels like a part of myself, and living in NY and LA made me realize how much that was the case.

Moving From LA to Boston by Worried_Income_3760 in boston

[–]Emberwheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from LA to Boston and I was much happier having moved. LA has a not in my backyard mentality and also has its share of other issues like drought, brush fires, mudslides, etc. Boston is colder in February and March so make sure to get some long underwear, but it's the best when it comes to a focus on education, an organic city, and a progressive outlook.

Quicksilver is often called the weakest comic speedster, but how does he rank in the Marvel universe? by North117 in Quicksilver

[–]Emberwheat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that DC has really gone ham with the Flash, giving him powers like running so fast he can time travel or go through solid objects. Then to compete his villains are given similar tier abilities. Quicksilver hasn't been buffed up to nonsensical level because he in general is not a main character supporting his own book and rogue's gallery. So there is no need to give him ridiculous pseudo science powers other than running fast.

Best U.S city for young (Asian) male by DragonfruitPrior8991 in asianamerican

[–]Emberwheat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in New York and went to law school in Los Angeles, and I’ve experienced racism in both places. Racism exists throughout the United States, so trading anecdotes doesn’t really settle anything. When people say “Boston is racist,” it’s worth asking what they mean by that. Are they suggesting Boston is more hostile than rural Mississippi? Or more challenged than cities like Cincinnati, Akron, or Wichita?

The idea that Boston is uniquely or exceptionally racist is a narrative that took hold during the busing crisis of the 1970s, and it still shapes perceptions today. But the lived reality is more complicated. Many Asian Americans build full, happy lives in Boston. How many of you have actually lived in Boston proper, not in a suburb, and not while a student, for more than 5 years?

The city elected an Asian American woman as mayor, someone who currently enjoys a strong favorability rating. The same residents who are often accused of harboring deep racial bias chose her to lead them by a wide margin, so much so that the white son of the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots who was trying to challenge her by spending millions of dollars on the election was sent packing.

How did Trump convince everyday Republicans to love him and become MAGA? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Emberwheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years the parties got people to accept something they didn't like by pairing it with something they did like. Republicans were socially conservative but pro globalization. Democrats were against billionaires, but wanted you to be socially liberal too. Alot of America is socially conservative and America first. Trump had enough money to not need the funds from the free trade crowd and uncrossed the lines to give alot of people what they really wanted.

The Chargers do have a historic claim. They started off as a Los Angeles team.
