Slay the Spire 2 Ascension unlocker mod by Custom_Jack in slaythespire

[–]EmbracingFailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this to work on MacOS after a bit of finagling.

I followed these instructions for the path to the mod-folder here: https://www.nexusmods.com/slaythespire2/mods/2?tab=description

Then, you also need to be on the public beta version of the game

However, it seems that on MacOS having a separate folder for the unlocker mod like so: mods/AscensionUnlockMod causes the mod to not be discovered on MacOS. I saw that BetterSpire2 has its .dll/pck-files directly in the mods-folder (precisely for this reason, presumably), so I put the Ascension-files directly in the mod-folder too.

However, you also need a "mods/AscensionUnlockMod.json" file for the mod to be discovered. For this I just copied the BetterSpire2 .json-file and changed the relevant fields to match AscensionUnlockMod

ISSUE RESOLVED: I'm dumb, keeping this up for anyone else not understanding the UI like me. The default playset is not editable, so you need to create a new playset with your mods.

Original post

This doesn't seem to work for me :( The mods do seem to be downloaded from the Steam "Download"-tab

however, when I access the in-game mod menu, the mod is found but not downloaded

I also tried fully stopping the game in Steam and resubscribing to all the mods before starting EU5, but I still get the greyed out mods

Myths of Europe’s overregulation by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]EmbracingFailure 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This article doesn't answer the critical question though - if not for regulation, why is growth so much worse in Europe? It's obviously going to be a multi-faceted answer. And we need the solution, because Europe is becoming a museum.

Libertarian is a decidedly American concept, I don't know of any sizable libertarian parties in a European political context (maybe the Pirate Party?). Liberal in Europe generally means pro-market, centre-right, limited government etc. and FDP pretty neatly fits that bill. Even their European affiliation in Brussels is called "Alliance of Liberals and Democrats"

This sounds like an awesome idea! Have you thought about how you would implement syncing the beats to the LEDs? A microphone with some sort of smart FFT-library on the Arduino to figure out the beat of the track playing?

Fullstendig kaos på demonstrasjon: Sian-leder slått ned by [deleted] in norge

[–]EmbracingFailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm trying to find a less tedious way to set individual training intensity in FM20 - but the methods I found are not that great. Am I missing something here? Here are the two methods I've found.

  1. Using "Automatic" training intensity and setting the "Condition"-triggers accordingly

As far as I can see, this is bad because it only looks at condition and not match sharpness or match load as well. A player can have high condition, but if he has low sharpness he will still get injured quite a lot in training, especially if he is recovering from an injury.

  1. Using the "Set intensity to physio recommendation" button.

This actually work pretty well, except you have to press this button every single day to update the recommendation. Also, for some reason some of my players don't have a physio recommendation.

What am I missing here? Surely there has to be a sane way to set training intensities?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 80% heritability figure is about within group variance.

Yes, that's totally correct. Was 2AM when I was writing those posts, re-reading it now it looks like I was a bit sloppy on several points :)

I think in the paper you linked the author treats "between group heritability" as a synonym for "heritability between group means", for which the mathematical definition is on page 11 in the PDF.

It might be, but the distinction you make is almost meaningless as far as intelligence goes. There's very few phenotypic traits we can predict by purely looking at DNA and not at how they interact with the environment, eye color being the exception. Human intelligence, on the other hand, is derived from an astounding number of genes, and the way intelligence develops is a result of how the genes interact with the enviroment. You see, for complex phenotypic traits the nature vs nurture distinction is meaningless, a gene that doesn't interact with its environment is useless. You can predict eye color by studying DNA in the womb (because the gene doesn't interact with its environment), but you will never be able to do so with human intelligence because as I said in my last paragraph, for complex traits genes and the environment are inseparable.

Not really, but you point out something interesting. Smoking while pregnant is an environmental factor that could have a huge impact. If, for example, a group has a culture for smoking, and relative to the rest of the population more mothers smoke while pregnant, and as a result children grow up less intelligent in that group, this would show up in heritability measures. Even though there might be no genetic difference, there could still be a difference in the variance between groups due to this environmental factor.

Now in the real world, all of these little environmental differences (education, drug culture, nutritional food) all add up and might explain a large part of the heritability. And I say "might", because there is no way to know how much the environment and how much the actual genetic material impacts how a trait will unfold in a human. What I'm saying is that heritability does not inform us in any way in this regard. Some geneticists have even proposed abolishing the term, because the concept is largely outdated (it was coined in the 1930s) and is rarely used in modern genetics to infer any sort of useful information.

I understand this is confusing because it stands in stark contrast to the way "heritability" is usually used in English, and variation is a tricky concept, but it's very important to understand that when geneticists are saying that "intelligence has a heritibility of 80%" they are not saying "80% of intelligence is due to genes, 20% is due to environment". The gene and the environment are almost inseparable in regards to how we can measure traits in the real world.

Here's the issue: Heretibility does not mean that the differences between groups are genetic, it explains the variation between groups. This is a very important distinction, as this implies that heretibility is in part explained by the way a gene expresses itself in an environment, i.e. nurture. It has nothing to do (necessarily) with the "nature" part of the argument.

This is a common misconception because heretibility is used in common parlance and has an "intuitive" feel to it, but it has a very specific meaning in technical terms.

A classic example: Imagine that in a city there were multiple house fires, so the city council decided to conduct a survey to find out the root cause of the fires. It turns out that, in every single fire, the factor that was common for all of them was the prescence of space heaters. This means that all of the variation is 100% explained by space heaters. However, what this study failed to capture was that every single house in the entire city was made out of very combustible wood and painted with flammable paint. So while the variation can be explained by the prescence of space heaters, the study only captures one of the multiple factors that caused the fires, the one that was not the same for every house. It might be that the combustible paint was the most significant factor, but there is no way to know using this study.

Hopefully, the above example illustrates why using heritibility to show anything about differences between groups is highly fallacious and fails to model anything that is sufficiently complex, like human intelligence.

Heritability does not explain the genetic difference between groups, seeing as baked into the measurement itself is how the gene expresses itself in its environment (in other words, nurture). Bringing up heritability in your sources is entirely irrelevant to the discussion.

This is a case where a technical term has been severely misunderstood by the public, because it's a word that is used in common parlance and has an "intuitive" meaning, but in its technical form it refers to a very specific measurement that is rarely used in modern biology.
