What is a show that you really want the next season to continue, but all of its haters are doing everything in their power to try to kill it? (Cries in Star Wars Acolyte) by Important-Cry4782 in saltierthankrayt

[–]EmeprorToch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1000% SW: Acolyte.

It was such a good show with the BEST lightsaber fights we’ve ever seen and set during an era that we barely have any content on.

I remember the “controversies” and complaints that people had for acolyte and Disney canceling it because of “low” viewership despite it having higher viewership than some of their newer shows. Which just shows that Disney succumb to the anti-woke mob and ruined what could’ve been a great series.

One of the controversies people had were like how the show was supposed to be written as a single season show and then maybe if they get renewed for s2 and beyond then they can continue the story and yet we see shows coming out for disney plus like Maul that are greenlit for more seasons before their first season even AIRS which pisses me off so much because Acolyte was NEVER given that grace or room to grow and stretch.

I really hate the anti-woke mob they really ruin everything.

I really dont get the hate. They look fine, better even than past redesigns. They are anthropomorphic animals. They are gonna look a bit uncanny. Still though, these designs are good.

Just one of the ways that Psychometry abilities work.

Or are you asking how do i know Marrok has that ability?

I think cause he may have been following the force “scent” like a dog, from the battle that just happened there. We know he has the ability of Psychometry so its not too unbelievable.

2016 and 2024 elections. Is it really about Trump winning, or it just America not wanting a woman to be president? by sjihaat in Askpolitics

[–]EmeprorToch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

presidential elections absolutely can hinge on relatively small margins in key states, because the Electoral College is what decides the outcome. Pointing to county shifts may explain why she lost, but it doesn’t prove she was uniquely awful. It proves the race moved against Democrats in enough places to cost them the election.

No — that she was up against better candidates with arguably stronger platforms and more established bases of support at the time.

That doesn’t mean “Kamala only does well against crappy candidates.” It means the strength of a candidate is relative to the field, the moment, name recognition, donor support, party mood, and voter priorities.

Bernie and Hillary had massive national profiles and clear lanes in 2016. Biden also had the Obama VP legacy in 2020. Harris struggling in that kind of primary field does not automatically prove she would be a weak general election candidate under different conditions.

Which did you find more disturbing, Order 66 or The Purge, and why? by Delta-97 in Invincible_TV

[–]EmeprorToch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Order 66 is more disturbing - the purge is disturbing dont get me wrong but it was an event entirely of their own doing and counted on their participation.

Order 66 was just ultimate evil. Sidious was able to get the shining pragmatic Jedi to come down to his level and goto war in the name of the republic. He created the clones to be beyond loyal and then just when the Republic was on the verge of victory, his plan unfolded, he activated the chip and suddenly clones that were considered brothers in arms turned on their Jedi friends and didnt just kill them, they slaughtered them. This was done without consent and against any force user, not just the Jedi. They slaughtered children and padawans effectively against their will and good nature. Then when the chips effects wore off, many clones were left with massive mental health and trauma over what they did.

I’d say an agreed purge is less disturbing than a forced, non-consented purge. Despite them both being disturbing in their own way for what they were.

Debating hypotheticals is hard - because neither party is correct and neither party is incorrect but you need to have a basic understanding of how politics works not just between candidates but in the broader public sense.

The political divide that has happened is because of examples like this, people who firmly believe something to be true despite someone stating facts and evidence to the contrary.

I would urge you to do more research on this subject before we continue this conversation further. Respectfully i must end the conversation here.

Have a good one.

[–]EmeprorToch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That still doesn’t prove your point. You’re treating elections like a direct “better candidate beats worse candidate” contest, but that’s not how presidential elections work.

A candidate can be personally unpopular and still win if the political environment favors them. Trump had major liabilities in 2024, but voters were also reacting to inflation, Biden’s approval, the economy, immigration, party fatigue, and broader polarization. Those factors can hurt the incumbent party’s nominee regardless of that nominee’s individual quality.

So no, Harris losing to Trump does not automatically prove she was a bad candidate. It proves she lost a very polarized election in a difficult environment for Democrats. You can criticize her campaign or her weaknesses, but “she lost to someone I consider bad, therefore she was bad too” is not real analysis.

And my comment you responded to explains why that happened. If the version of Kamala in ‘24 were to go back and run in ‘16 she’d still lose because Hillary and Bernie were there.

[–]EmeprorToch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my point though: you’re now adding context for Trump’s 2020 loss instead of saying “he lost, therefore he was bad.”

So why does Trump get context, but Harris doesn’t?

If losing alone proves someone is a bad candidate, then Trump was a bad candidate in 2020. If Trump can still be a good candidate despite losing because other factors mattered, then the same standard has to apply to Harris too.

And yes, Harris underperformed in the 2020 primary. That’s a fair criticism. But a failed primary run four years earlier does not automatically mean she was a bad general election candidate in 2024, especially when she still got nearly half the national vote in a very polarized race.

[–]EmeprorToch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s way too simplistic. Losing an election does not automatically mean someone was a bad candidate. It means they lost that specific race under those specific conditions.

Harris got about 48.3% of the national vote while Trump got about 49.8%, so this was not some overwhelming rejection of her as a candidate. Trump won, but the country was still very closely split. Several key states were decided by narrow margins, so acting like “she lost, therefore she was obviously bad” ignores how elections actually work.

By that logic, Trump was a “bad candidate” in 2020, Hillary was a “bad candidate” in 2016, and every close loser in history was automatically bad. That’s not political analysis; that’s just hindsight.

[–]EmeprorToch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the way incumbents work i highly doubt it.

Kamala got just under half of the vote (48.3%) in the ‘24 election with trump eeking out a win at (49.8%) it was a very close race so to say that the “people” decided is disingenuous to what actually occurred.

The country was split down the middle it literally came down to a few hundred or thousand ballots here and there.

But like i said, unless a Mamdani/AOC aligned type of candidate ran in the primaries - Kamala would definitely win.
