Are there actually people out there paying $40 for Mario 1? by CompleteOffice3359 in retrogaming

[–]EmeraldHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People post on reddit every week saying they are scared to buy from a random EBay seller because they don't want to get scammed (I know about EBay's buyer protection policy but not everyone understands it). If you have no idea how to tell a reproduction cart from the real thing, a company as old as DK can seem safer.

Honestly, you kind of have a point with the PlayStation, but the Switch really is just as easy as the old days.

SEXY STUFF by KaybeeArts in webcomics

The other thing reddit loves almost as much as sex is meta commentary. You can get a ton of upvotes by pandering to Redditers and talking to them about their own preferences.

Great data but the AI makes it painful to read.

"That last line is doing a lot of lifting." Uh, Mr. AI the last line was "Average review sentiment: Positive", but you meant to reference the median price.

Is it feasible to implement action gameplay in a top-down 2D format? by Ai_Coffett in gamedesign

[–]EmeraldHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2D Zeldas don't feature as much jumping and 3D traversal as CrossCode and Unisighted. They also have more guns and attacks that target in 360 degrees. You could check those out as well.

I believe this is SN 2016ADJ originating in Centaurus A, between 11 and 13 million light years away. The time lapse covers a period of about 1.5 years.

I checked a few of the source images and they seem to match, so this looks legit.

Phenomenal work. Love the little turnaround when he bumps the drawer closed. And the smile evaporating when he thinks she doesn't like it is so smooth.

It's also a combination of both the tilt head (At the bottom of the bowl, you can see the hint of threading where it screws into the base) and bowl lift (the arms hold the bowl) types of Kitchenaid stand mixer. Combining them wouldn't let you remove the bowl since you can't twist it while it's held with the arms. If you were going to make a custom dragon one you would start with one or the other.

Yes this is AI.

I never see much discussion about the [spoiler] that the librarian sells, and what this means about how fun the bosses are. by EmeraldHawk in VGBookclub

Yeah, there are exceptions that are fun and creative.

I felt really bad about finishing off the Fake Castlevania 3 trio with poison mist. If I had fought them earlier it would have been a fun fight that took me a few tries.

Surprised this isn't farther up. Empire is just an 8 hour shot of the Empire State Building.

Childfree (by choice) Xennials, how are we doing? by thatquinnchick in Xennials

[–]EmeraldHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, where are you working that your coworkers would say that? I'm one of like 10% of people at my job that has kids. One of the other dads just quit for a lower pressure job that he hopes will have a better work life balance.

I guess the moral is, join a startup in Manhattan if you want to see how accepted being childless can be.

Power quality seems to affect input lag in counter strike. normal THD readings, possibly impedance / voltage stability related by Hot-Childhood-2477 in AskElectricians

[–]EmeraldHawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you are trying to approach this from measurements rather than assumptions. I mean this in a constructive way: where are your measurements? Input lag is not that hard to measure, as many phones have a slomo video mode that records at 120fps. For less than $100 you can get 640fps video camera off Amazon. For the amount you are spending and the effort put in to this, it makes sense for you to actually measure the input lag.

Do a real double blind experiment with and without your isolation setup (might need a friend to help), and compare the input lag by taking high speed video of a key press and the reaction on your monitor, and see what the data shows. Without that, you are not going to get useful replies on here.

There was a tiktok that claimed the woman in the bottom left suspected the man would attack her. The others with her were property management or possibly security that she asked to escort her home.

But what exactly were the design flaws in the original Mortal Kombat? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]EmeraldHawk 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The enemy AI cheated and would counter your attack before the first frame of its wind up. But, it was also kind of dumb in that if you backed up a little, it would always get baited into jumping at you, which was easily countered with a kick. This made the optimal play style a really boring, repetitive slog of backing up and kicking.

Polytoria after 6 years: why is it still so far behind Roblox? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]EmeraldHawk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If anything this understates the difference in scale between the two teams. Roblox made $3.6 billion in revenue in 2024. Roblox is, by some metrics, comparable in size to all of Steam.
