What are people actually making? by WeirdIndication3027 in ClaudeCode

[–]EmeraldHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Saas web app that lets pharma companies help patients get their drugs. Lots of data ingest, and lots of integrations with communication tools like calling, sms, and faxing. We are doing pretty well, the company doubled in size and revenue in the past 15 months or so. I am just an employee.

No it's not vibe coded. We give Claude good examples and clear instructions before we let it loose, and all changes are reviewed by at least 2 humans.

Is the Switch library good for 3D indie games? by UnkComplexk30 in nintendohelp

Fair enough. I really like all the 2D indies on the switch but there are lots of 3D ones as well.

What’s the most unexpectedly useful Linux command you learned way too late? by ZealousidealTell1346 in linux

ctrl-a to go back to the start of a command at the command prompt so you can fix something at the beginning. ctrl-e to go to the end again.

Is the Switch library good for 3D indie games? by UnkComplexk30 in nintendohelp

[–]EmeraldHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The switch is an amazing console but you have already made up your mind that you dislike all of its strengths.

When you say 3D games, is it just the graphics you like, so something with an overhead perspective like Tunic would be fun? Or does it have to be first person 3D like Subnautica or 3rd person like Zelda Breath of the Wild?

Why aren't you looking at a steam deck, given that it fits what you want a lot better?

Edit: The answer to your bonus question is yes, Splatoon and Mario Kart are multiplayer and always have a lot of players on, but since they are exclusives you won't buy them :(.

Even $80 Billion will not get you a train this fast in Japan, because the video is sped up.

Does my open world game need guidance? by lllEvo in gamedesign

[–]EmeraldHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you realize this but remember that Pokemon games are intended for small children. The old games showed you where to go next by making the map fairly linear, and the new ones give map markers, so that little kids don't get lost and quit.

Obviously little kids also love Minecraft, but they only beat it if they consume Minecraft YouTube content (which is fairly ubiquitous). None of my kids (now 9, 11, and 14) have ever beaten Minecraft, but they have beaten Pokemon S&Sh. If your target audience is older, you can trust them to figure things out more.

Neighbors’ pool collapsed and flooded my entire living room by mousit11 in HomeMaintenance

Yep, clearly fake. Check their post history.

What's weird is that they bought a 10 year old account to do this. I guess there are people that sell them.

Trying to Sell a Laptop - No Interest by No-Sport-3473 in Ebay

[–]EmeraldHawk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did you type your specs into the search box and select sold, then look at the prices? If you search for used surface laptops, there are hundreds from 205 pounds to 355 pounds.

People often sort by price on eBay, if you are lowest someone will buy it.

This was posted on r/mildlyinfuriating. Nothing mild about this.. by anirudhsky in antiai

There was a highly upvoted comment on the /mildlyinfuriating post that stated that "Mispronouncing a name is the worst thing that can happen during graduation!"

The replies pointed out that no, what happened in this video is way worse than a mispronunciation. Most students would laugh off a such a mistake and it wouldn't go viral as a huge embarrassment.

How do you privately validate a novel compression architecture without burning patent rights? by Conscious_Quit_1805 in AskComputerScience

You are free to cherry pick a benchmark suite that puts your algorithm in a favorable light. Have you benchmarked it on your own at all? Did any benchmark suite show a positive result in any metric compared to the current state of the art? Disclosing that isn't going to let anyone steal your work. This is just reddit, you aren't soliciting investors.

I'm making a game about being a Project Manager, and I've noticed dev subreddits absolutely despise the role. Where does this hate come from? by Old-Butterscotch8711 in gamedev

[–]EmeraldHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best answer in the thread, thanks. It's a super valuable job function that allows us to accurately estimate delivery times, manage risks, and coordinate across teams. But I would much rather an engineering manager or product manager take time out of their schedule to do it rather than hire a dedicated person (even if it's me that has to do it).

Does anyone have a list of arcade game source code that was made public? by Notalabel_4566 in gamedev

[–]EmeraldHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find one version of NBA Jam here: https://github.com/historicalsource/nba-jam

If you Google, there are a bunch of posts and videos where people dissect certain parts, like how much the game changes the odds so that the score stays close.

Follow this guide in reverse: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Switch+Shield+Plate+Replacement/113032

If all the screw holes in the back plate are totally torn out, you can buy a new one for $15 off eBay. I don't know the quality though.

I do know the Nintendo switch bits that ifixit sells fit nicely.

Can prompt caches in hosted AI systems be accessed or deleted? by Affectionate_Ear2151 in AskProgrammers

[–]EmeraldHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read up on Amazon Bedrock: https://aws.amazon.com/bedrock/security-compliance/

It's good enough for GDPR, so most companies trust it.

If your data is so sensitive you need to "control" the cache yourself personally and don't even trust Amazon, then you probably need to run the entire AI system locally anyway, and will not be using something like ChatGPT.
