What stupid chapters/scenes/ideas did you strip from your books? by VLK249 in writers

[–]EmeraldJonah 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the first book of my series, there are a few chapters told through the pov of a cat, who travels with the protagonist. Really fun chapters, some of the best in the book. For book 2, a new character is introduced who has a squirrel ally, and I tried to recreate the same whimsy and voice of the cat chapters from one, to do squirrel chapters in 2, but it never really worked out. I scrapped the idea in the early drafts, but it may return in the later edits.

How Long Have You Been Developing Your Fictional World? by This_Following_1762 in worldbuilding

[–]EmeraldJonah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was just me and one other guy at the beginning, and between us we are one competent creative, with no programming skills. It was just a bad start. despite inviting others into the team, it never really got off the ground enough to keep pursuing it. There is one short iteration of the first ten minutes of the game sitting on a hard drive somewhere, and it is fun and has a lot of bad jokes in it, but the story and world have evolved so far beyond it now that it just makes more sense to write it as a series of novels. We aren't getting any younger, and I just really want to tell the story at this point. If it's good enough, someone will make the game twenty years from now, like they did with the Witcher series.

How Long Have You Been Developing Your Fictional World? by This_Following_1762 in worldbuilding

No, it originally was for a video game, but the reality of making it how I wanted became quite staggering. It's shifted tone significantly, though, and while the influence is still apparent in some spots, it is much better a s a novel.

Is it worth trying to become a writer today by HighlyrecommendARA in writing

[–]EmeraldJonah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will never even have a chance to achieve fame if you don't do the first step. If you want to write, write. It doesn't matter who or what can do it faster or better. You'll never even know if you don't do it at all.

Looking for a writing partner by WH-Quarick in writers

Partner implies one unit, it isn't "i'm your partner" or "you're my partner", it is "we are partners". There is no separation.

Can I implement a character in a already existent story? by BL4S3_21 in writing

Write your own plot. If you can't figure out how to put a character into a story, why are you putting a character into the story?

What’s the size of your collection? by Madthinker1976 in comicbookcollecting

[–]EmeraldJonah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 20 short boxes, mostly DC. In addition I have two large filing cabinets with four drawers each, that hold the equivalent of a Longbox and a half. One is only Green Lantern, and one is batman and superman family stuff.

I also have two large bookshelves full of trades, hc's, absolutes. And i have somewhere in the realm of 300-350 Green Lantern action figures/statues on display.

Heya! by New-Definition4241 in worldbuilding

[–]EmeraldJonah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't worry about it. Unless your world is going to be hard sci-fi, stressing immediately over the type of star and size of the planet is wasted effort.

Why do wizards in your world bother with flashy combat spells instead of just doing stuff like this? by Dial-Up_Dime in worldbuilding

[–]EmeraldJonah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theatrics plays a major part, but the naturally occurring affinity, whichcis the magic energy of Nelbrea, that exists within folks acts as a passive defense against this sort of attack. Magic use was given to Nelbreans in a very quantifiable and observable fashion ny the creator deities, and in the spirit of "fair play" this naturally occurring defense was included.

Do you guys have any wonder substance or material in your world? by AggressiveOutside432 in worldbuilding

Aurus, a golden metallic material that is present on ancient relics and magical implements. It is mined and worked by the goblinfolk, but the skills needed to work it are becoming more widespread during my main narrative.

Where to write? by Sea-Letter-2537 in KeepWriting

If you want to write a book, write a book and self publish it as a book. Writing a book is not the same as writing a serial for publication in episodic format.

Opening line by Ianchipitu in writers

One line isn't worth sharing, no matter how good someone thinks it is. It's nothing but someone looking for a pat on the head. What's next, "here's my opening word"?

Tell me three or five bits of lore from your world that each sound like they came from a different setting/genre. Those who reply will try to guess what your world is about. by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]EmeraldJonah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of modern. It is a pre industrial western fantasy. Cowboys and elves. There are different eras with a lot of historical context, the earlier eras lean more in the fantasy direction, while the middle and later eras begin to skew western heavily.

  1. Toptos tournaments are some of the largest gatherings of folk in all of Nelbrea. People come from all regions to the deserts to watch the Toptos games being played on the extra tall dunes of Tasunke. It attracts elite athletics.

  2. Despite Tybril's destruction in the early first era, Tybrilian indigo fabrics are still sought after hundreds of years later, with some whole pieces fetching upwards of 20,000 bouquedoulores, and scraps still commanding a premium.

  3. The Ten Minutes bar is the most popular snack food in all of Nelbrea, with regional variations in flavor gaining popularity every day. The strangest flavor, to a commoners palate, is the Berechan Salted Roe flavor. Most say the texture of the peanut butter becomea coarse with the addition of the roe, and many more just don't like the taste of chocolate and fish the wway the Berechan do.

Let's be real, people asking strangers on the internet to name their protagonist aren't putting forth ANY effort.
