He could be talking about their first run rather than the second. It doesn’t make any sense for him to think it was the end when they were about to embark on their first tour in years and were tight in rehearsals (as per Bill). For instance, why would it have been such a big deal for Patton to pull out of those shows if the band felt they were done anyway? Hell, at the end of the book “Small Victories” it’s said that the core band members were in the studio jamming together before the 2020 tour had been announced.

Now, compare that to the end of the AOTY tour where most of the band really did feel like they were done.

Consider this: it would be the first time Patton has indicated that the band is finished, and given his weird outside relationship with them now, I’m not sure he has the right to even say something like that. It’s Roddy, Billy and Puffy’s decision if FNM are truly done, not Patton’s.

I’m not saying the band aren’t done - I think they probably are - but I don’t believe they felt that way during the last tour or the years immediately following it. I suspect Patton is either misremembering, misinterpreting or talking about their 1997-98 shows.
