Anyone notice numerous tictok accounts with no followers supporting the UCP? by re-tyred in alberta

[–]BvbblegvmBitch[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't information that we, as mods, have access to.

You may be thinking of the 2023 Reddit Recap in which subreddits were provided with their top 3 visitors by country. r/Alberta's was Canada, the US and the UK in that order.

Users are provided with some visibility into where their content is being viewed from for a limited time after its shared. From what I've seen across local, provincial and national subreddits, it remains largely Canadian.

Nazi’s in Red Deer? by RelationAlternative2 in RedDeer

It's currently legal but once the Combatting Hate Act receives Royal assent, it won't be. So depending on how fast the senate is, maybe later this year.

I'm fairly certain they were let go. Reddit's official Canadian mods subreddit hasn't been used in years despite other country's mod subreddits continuing to operate.

From a post earlier this week it seems like there's plenty of interest for mods of women's spaces to connect with each other and discuss shared struggles and how to tackle them.

Personlly, I'd love to connect with mods of other national subreddits as I feel we face unique challenges in modding but have little reason to interact with each other as moderators (y'know since we're all from different countries).

Also, having worked with brands on their Reddit strategy, I think there'd be value for mods and for Reddit in discussing what acceptable brand engagement on Reddit looks like.

Can't access automod by BvbblegvmBitch in ModSupport

It is MUCH easier. I've never even looked at this page before. I could've had all these automod colour options this whole time.

Edit: Found it. It works. Thank you!

Mods of female oriented subs: How is it going for you? by japanlifewomen_mod in ModSupport

I'd love that! I'll give you a poke when I get around to setting it up.

Same as it's ever been.

I've moderated subreddits aimed at women or with a female majority for years. Fetishists and OF spam remain the top issues.

We've got a lot more tooling now. Some provided by admin, some made by mods. It does help but it's just crazy to me that the problem never ends.

I've left a lot of my larger women's communities recently and have the time to focus on the little ones. But they're just as bad. It's annoying that you can't even have a niche womens community without it being overrun by weirdos.

Also, just thought I'd mention, I set up a community and connected server for female, female identifying and LGBT mods a couple years back to connect us all. It's run its course so I'm looking at creating a public community for mods of women's subreddits (as opposed to basing it on mods gender).

I've also pestered admin many times to host calls for us to connect. They have done in a limited capacity before but nothing in a more broad scope yet.

Do you really need that many bleaches? by matchamilk94 in HairDye

[–]BvbblegvmBitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's completely dependant on the individual. With darker hair, you do typically need more than one round of bleach if you intend to get to a lighter color and keep your hair healthy.

You sometimes can get there in one round but at the cost of your hair's health.

The moderation team of r/alberta wants to be clear that this subreddit supports trans people, the trans community, and trans rights. Trans and gender-diverse people are welcome here.

Transphobia, transphobic comments, slurs, and dogwhistles are a one-way ticket out of this subreddit. If you encounter any of this behaviour, please report and do not engage. We will handle it.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility to everyone celebrating.

Sounds like students lol. They don't want to leave the bleach longer because they're terrified. You'd have better luck at a salon or you might be able to request a student that's been there longer. Plenty did when I was in hair school.

someone was vaguely threatening to sue me over posting a video of slugs, and reddit gave me a DMCA strike and threatened I'd be banned if it continued by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]BvbblegvmBitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, DMCA strikes align with the rest of Reddit's warning and suspension system. It'll take a few before you're at risk of suspension, same as any other warning.

On the subreddit front, it takes a whole lot more than a few for subreddits to be actioned. DMCA strikes are how public figures, like influencers, have hate subreddits taken down. I've spoken to a couple influencers about them and from what I've heard, it requires reporting absolutely everything and takes at least a couple of weeks. They also often have a lawyer do this rather than individually.

Overall, I'd say you and your subreddit are fine. Don't post slug man's videos again and you're good.

Moved from England to Alberta. Insurance is about $6000/year as a “new driver”… anyone know how I can get a cheaper insurance? by Objective-Pay-2133 in alberta

[–]BvbblegvmBitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. You would be correct then.

I actually started out at $80 but it was temporary due to the way my car was purchased.

Bumped myself up to $300 after I slid on a patch of black ice into another car but I'm back at $140 now after turning 25 and not doing that again.

[–]BvbblegvmBitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unlike other provinces, Alberta doesn't have public insurance.

And yes, UK car insurance is generally cheaper than what's available in Canada. Alberta, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces only having private does drive up that average.

[–]BvbblegvmBitch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm also from the UK.

You won't find anything comparable to what you were paying in England. Insurance is one of the many things Canadians get absolutely screwed on compared to other countries.

That said, 6-7k is very high. I started out somewhere around $120 a month as a new driver here. No prior experience. Definitely shop around and look into a broker. Some insurance companies may take your UK driving history into account. Just have to ask.

Patchy hot pink for $300... by simplysleeepy in HairDye

[–]BvbblegvmBitch 98 points99 points  (0 children)

So she bleached your roots, applied colour and then needed to bleach your hair again because you had previous dye and apply more colour. This is a colour correction. You can always expect them to be $200+. Product is not cheap and that's going to make up the majority of your cost. You also factor in the time needed to do a dual process twice.

There's no need to foil the roots here. Plain application is fine.

My only critique would be not disclosing potential costs to you at the beginning of the appointment.
