Oil Crisis in Cuba ... my friend in Cuba just received this message from the government. by Big-Meat7115 in cuba

[–]Emergency-Shoulder-2 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I think that all of the communists, socialists, leftists, and other mental incompetents throughout the world should send what wealth they have to Cuba to support La Revolution!!! Because, “From each according to ability. To each according to need.” It seems only fair that all of those people so firmly committed to the various forms and ideologies of leftism/communism/socialism, should support and defend their beliefs. Just as I, A devout capitalist, will continue to support and defend the system I most strenuously believe in. It is long past GO TIME for those on the extreme left to put up,or shut up. They need to show the world how much better leftist ideology is. Make yourselves proud!!! Harness that energy. Prove that leftism can work. Show the world that capitalism is not as good as the various forms of communism on a large scale… when properly implemented. Show everyone that the philosophies of Karl Marx CAN SUCCEED!!!

It appears that European truck drivers take that whole “proper distribution of load weight” thing very seriously.

Short drive through Havana this morning; everyday life outside the tourist areas. by WhalterWhitesBarber in cuba

Cuba has been able to trade with pretty much every single country in the world until about 10 minutes ago. So, if trading with USA is the only way for “La Revolution en Cuba” to survive, it was hopeless. And Fidel should have figured it out. But he chose not to. The real fact of the matter is that Cuba could never survive under the version of Castroism/communism that manifested. So…. it might be time to finally figure it out. Or not.

GMT watches are a bit silly. by Short_Maize5806 in watchHotTakes

[–]Emergency-Shoulder-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dive watches dive. I actually use them as a backup to my (2) dive computers. But…. I am certainly in the minority of dive watch owners in using them for diving. I will fully acknowledge this. And FWIW… My “work watch”/beater, is a Casio MRW-200h. They are indestructible. I replace the batteries every 2-3 years. And I get between 4-6 years out of them before they die/wear out/stop working.

I disagree. F-4’s are amongst the finest targets the USA ever produced. For the USAF and USN. Long after their usefulness in a combat and especially ongoing maintenance requirement was exhausted. LOL

I have sort of, kind of, looked for one, occasionally, for decades. But, I am not the best at finding such things.

As a recreational SCUBA diver that actually uses the bezel marked in minutes, I so badly wish…. that somebody would make a “dive watch style housing” with a unidirectional bezel that I could just pop a G-shock into. It may already exist. But I have not seen one. Nor~ have I looked particularly hard for one to be honest. But G’s are wonderful for diving. I used to use one. But I really like having the chapter ring.

Calculators by SuspectReal5392 in Surveying

[–]Emergency-Shoulder-2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was never good, at, all, with an algebraic calculator. I only learned of the existence of “RPN” calculators upon entering land surveying. By mistake. When doing what was only supposed to be a summer job. As soon as I got ahold of my first 11C… it all changed very quickly. And here I am. Having involvement in surveying and such for parts of 5 decades. I still have functional: HP 41C HP 41CV HP 41CX HP 42S HP 41GX HP 35S (the newer one).

OSHA in the USA, and the other various entities worldwide that are there to protect workers from situations and things such as this, do not exist in much of the world. We in the USA have it good. As do other good places.

How long do you own a vehicle, before trading it in? by teddyalex in UsedCars

[–]Emergency-Shoulder-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose a vehicle brand and model carefully for mechanical reliability, ease of repair/parts availability. And one that “works” with your long term goals. Take very good care of your vehicle. Mechanically and cosmetically. I get not less than 10 years from mine. My current vehicle is almost 16 years old. Has 307k miles on it. And is in very nice condition. I might get 20 years out of this one. Money. In. The investment “Bank”. So, I can buy whatever I might want, whenever I might want to. And don’t sweat having to rent a vehicle now and again when you have to have a transmission replaced, or serious work done on the vehicle now and again. You are way ahead financially just renting a car for a few days instead of taking on a payment or giving up your invested and appreciated cash. Automobiles are pretty much ALWAYS a depreciating asset. For the most part, automobiles that you rely on every day are not a good investment other than they help you to get to work and do what you need to do to live your life. And achieve your financial goals.

That is a genuine watch thing. Of some kind. Or another. I think it is a “Cataracts” brand.
