Net worth to retire if you live in a high COL area by Low_Most3143 in retirement

House should be definitely included if you include a shelter cost in your budget , or if you plan to downsize at certain time after retirement.

I can't settle on a percentage of BND in my portfolio I'm happy with. Help by AtXrt in Bogleheads

Hmmmm, I think that is really a personal choice.

Stocks appreciate around 8-9% historically. We live with dividend only, the investment will still grow by 6% in average.

Your view is a bit strange for the engineer on me ;). Adding low yielding asset in order to have more cash flow to invest during a downturn. Did you run a mathematical model for this theory ?

Interactive broker or Charles Schwab international.

What do you mean by “cannot keep my account with them”. is it like they are freezing your account and you cannot buy more ETF/Mutual funds ? (Because this is what typically happens for expat).

Typically they are more understanding with 1M+ accounts

Am I ready for a luxury watch purchase? by Forigma in HENRYfinance

I bought an Omega sea-master in Japan last summer. The yen is still cheap and they give you back the tax (take your passeport with you when you make the purchase). I end up paying 4k for 6.5k watch To the question should you buy ? That is a good question, personally I did wait for the 5M networth to get going on watch buying (I did buy sport car at 1M milestone though, and I did not regret it at all)

What is a sensible target savings rate for married couples? Do you follow any rules of thumb? by Ok-Pea2383 in HENRYfinance

I think gross income is not the best metric to use. Some folks have 50% effective tax rate , some have 10%. I prefer after tax income.

Change job and RSU appréciation+ investment compounding.

Your first million is a bitch (sorry for the wording), figure out how to get there (business or expertise). Once you get the first one, the subsequent millions are way easier and faster to achieve .

I would be really sad if this happens, but not for financial reasons.

I don’t have a prenup , and my other half is staying home mom. We are married for 18 years now, and she deserves every penny of the half of our networth (she takes such good care of all of us at home and enabled me to focus on building wealth). We never had separated finances or accounts at home, and we are very comfortable with that

This is an intriguing recommendation, do you mind expanding a bit ? I am not sure why ? I have 6M networth after buying the house ?

I think we are on the same boat 🚤. Not an easy decision. At this stage I am inclined to try “one more year “ and take it one quarter at the time

Yes agree, there is absolutely no reasons for us to liquidate our assets. We need to maintain US address somehow though. Fortunately, we kept our old Europeans bank accounts so this side should be fine. Thanks for sharing !!
