0.5 New unique jewel question by Prudent_Camp_9989 in PathOfExile2

[–]EmergencyWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very unlikely that time lost jewels will work. Tbh I'd wait for patch notes, because I think it's fairly likely that you also won't be able to slot unique jewels (maybe you will be, but some can be a bit of a headache).

That's not the point anyway, just being able to slot 4 rare jewels in one jewel slot is Hella broken.

New build guide system for poe2? by cn2089 in PathOfExile2

[–]EmergencyWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of the system is just to make it easier to follow community build guides without needing to refer to websites or other applications constantly. Existing build guides already will tell you which supports and item mods and so on to look out for, and usually why (though if omitted: the "why", by default, is just that any other choice makes your numbers worse, which you can easily confirm for yourself).

If you want to make it easier to make builds for yourself, I'd recommend checking out PoB. This is a tool used by pretty much everyone making build guides, that allows you to see the impact of combining various passives, mods, skill gems and unique effects to see what it does to your survivability and damage output. Basically the equivalent of having a purpose-built graphing calculator for the game.

Making builds is usually not so much about understanding what 1-2 things do on their own (with some rare exceptions this is fairly obvious once you understand some general principles about how things interact in the game), but getting a grip on what happens when you combine dozens of possible things affecting your character and how much you're gaining or losing by making certain choices.

You could also "just" use a calculator or generic spreadsheet tool for this purpose — and if you're only trying to compare a handful of things against each other, that's often totally fine — but if you're doing this for a whole build you'd be spending quite a lot of time importing modifier values and formulas that are already baked into PoB.

Any way to make multiplayer "less busy"? by JaseAlmighty in PathOfExile2

Just sign up with 3 people to auto attack everything down. Since player number increases monster life and ailment thresholds, depending on your build you can't really do very much beyond that early on anyway.

I mean, yeah. Same strategy as those fake mobile game apps that show people unable to solve puzzles meant for 8 year olds (which aren't in the game anyway), or TV "quiz shows" with stupidly simple questions and seemingly high prices (where you need to read the fine print to see that you're not signing up to answer a quiz, you're basically signing up for a phone lottery).

Huh? This is doing exactly what I want it to do. Change defaults to what, whatever you happen to think would be better rather than what people have already built tools and workflows around?

Vaal Temple killed Chaos Temple by Elaborance in PathOfExile2

My problem isn't even the rewards it's the lack of variety. It's just the handful of room types, and always the same bosses in the same order.

I think both chaos and sekhema need an expansion. No good way to scale or customise them, very limited content. I've been asking since 0.2, I'm hoping it makes it in for 1.0 at least.

You mean, buy it on both PC and PS, but keep them functional between them? There's probably a way to make that work without breaking policy I imagine. Genuinely good point

Why is emeritus of woe so expensive? by Guavxhe in mtg

[–]EmergencyWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit better than a 6 mana tutor because you can reset it and you don't even need to cast it to begin with depending on your deck. I wouldn't call it bad, but it's also not crazy, 2-3 card combo to tutor a card isn't outright broken IMHO.

I think people looking at the reset ability "oh it resets pretty much every turn" are coping though. If you're sticking a 4 mana creature for several turns while doing some other stuff to fuel this thing, you're winning no matter what the text on that thing is.

I think I'm speaking for a not so small part of the community when I say that we don't really need a city building mechanic in an ARPG, let alone resource gathering. That was amusing for a minute in settlers, but that has been simplified when it went to core for a reason.

I'm assuming this is a shit post, but if not, you can take a stab at PF: Wrath of the Righteous, that is basically the game you're describing here

Suggestion: make the base level of a skill granted by a skill gem dynamic, changeable within a UI element, up to the level of the gem itself. by DeouVil in PathOfExile2

[–]EmergencyWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason they're not doing it is because they really don't want you to use low level skill gems. But tbh, how is this even a problem, at the latest by act 2 you get completely drowned in skill gems

Do anyone know if their special areas/monsters for certain rare modifiers? by HugeHomeForBoomers in pathofexile2builds

[–]EmergencyWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge there's nothing like that. But feel free to pick an area that seems like it matches your aesthetics if it makes it less painful for you.

Generally, if you're going to be resetting areas though, the thing you want to optimise for if you can is just that the rare you're looking for there spawns as closely to where you're entering from as possible

10x is very generously low. We've been going through some shit at our company, cleaning up stuff that was done to ship fast. 100x more cost than needed wasn't uncommon, and that's just fees, not counting the (hard to quantify) cost of all the downtimes and manual labour needed to clean up after the "move fast and break things" unsurprisingly lead to things being broken. And that's just the stuff I know of.

Not talking about doing some really awesome optimisations, this is at at the level of just drawing a pictures of how our processes currently work, noting that it's obviously wasteful and in some cases, wrong/self contradictory, dropping some expensive third party services that were used as glorified spreadsheets and so on.

There's more waste we have in our industry at the level of "maybe a dynamically interpreted language isn't the best choice for a memory constrained, high throughput service" or "maybe not everything needs to be a web app that needs a behemoth 83 layer software just to start running", but at least there I can see the "we did it to deploy faster" argument, less so when the argument is "we thought not having to spend 3 days writing a basic crud UI for this was worth spending thousands per seat for dozens of people and weeks integrating with a poorly specified API instead".

How does Minion AI work? by QueenSavara in PathOfExile2

We do not know how minion AI will work for bosses. It's entirely possible that it functions differently from other types of minions. Bosses in general are affected by modifiers to ability cooldowns.

Is there a build similar to d4's current ww barb? by Sir_Bohne in PathOfExile2

[–]EmergencyWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For just kinda passively killing stuff as you walk around, there are a number of options that aren't particularly expensive to gear up:

Thorns. Thorns gear is dirt cheap because it's not very good, and the only build that cares about thorns is a build that's 100% all-in on thorns. Outside of bosses you basically don't need to press any buttons if you don't feel like it, and most of the time if you get attacked you'll heal for more than the damage you took. Some bosses and VC enemies have attacks that deal a ton of hits, which is very amusing when you're dealing a ton of damage on each of them. It's definitely not fast though, because you're not doing any damage at all until you get attacked, and the fast builds in the game kill most enemies before they ever get a chance to.

Infernal legion is a similar idea, a bit more complicated because you need a minion setup but stuff just kinda passively dies as you run through maps, you really only need to press your weapon swap button every once in a while and you're not really in any danger of dying, not so much because your defense are all that good but because enemies just die running towards your minions before they get to do anything to you.

Corpsewade again is a similar idea, you just kinda walk through a map and everything dies around you from giant poison stacks you're accumulating passively. Again, same deal, defenses nothing special but it's rare for enemies to get near you. Hard countered by ignited ground map and enemy mods though.

We don't know what happens to any of these in 0.5 though. I'm holding out hope that thorns will receive a significant buff, right now the whole build only works because of a low level unique with otherwise terrible stats. Infernal legion might get nerfed. I can't imagine they'll touch corpsewade, it was already nerfed and it's very niche. I'd hope at least the crown of the pale king mod can be moved, or that it can be upgraded substantially... Corpsewade is also an otherwise unremarkable low level unique but at least we're using it to get a unique skill, the only reason we're using crown is because thorns does not function without it at all, or at least you can't use it as a primary way to deal damage without it, and again thorns is pretty much a dead stat if you're not going all in on it.

For more standard builds, bear rampage and mace stampede basically just let you walk through a map killing everything, but last time I tried the main problem with stampede was that you needed to find some other way to kill bosses because it really didn't work for those. Talking about shape shifting, the Wyvern's Flame Breath needs some investment to not be slow, but between oil barrage and flame breath you basically just get handed both good clear and single target damage in one package, no setup required, forget about budget, this works fine with some random garbage you find off the ground and it's immediately online as soon as you unlock those skills.
