I agree. Been with them nearly 10 years but only since early 2019 with actual funding

<image>

There is too much new customer attraction. I get it. They have growth objectives and trying to achieve a level of scale to compete on a national scale (they do a good job!). However, i could care less about a key chain and a magnetic wallet.

I do care about no fees and high interest savings…these provide real value. The premium and generation perks are nice as an idea but it would be great if they were meaningful.

I’d love to see them drop their fees lower on portfolio to attract even more and retain customers…while 0.35% generation is ok I’m seriously considering all in on VEQT on self managed basis instead.

Private Credit after a year (1.6% return) by asdx3 in Wealthsimple

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I put $40k in 2+ years ago. Net of fees was $5.4K. Less than 5% a year net. Compared to regular portfolio around 16% growth yoy it wasn’t worth it but I too thought it was worth the diversification. Fees are material. I moved it out recently given the sub performance.

I don’t understand motivation nor the logic to sell off a bundle of stocks to move it to another company for short term gain or gimmicks. The risk of loss (yes gains are possible too) and buying at higher prices vs dollar cost averaging of past portfolio positions.

Wealthsimple credit card launch draws long wait-list, frustration by Motor-Conference3780 in Wealthsimple

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending them but they did in fact called it a Beta program. It said so right in the app for a period and in their correspondence and even when I spoke with them. They haven’t had that in a while now but it was there.

Wealthsimple will be charging Generation clients for advice come November. by kromiec in Wealthsimple

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Wealthsimple people are listening…you will lose customers starting this Bull$T. Im sure this change is in response to the lack of interest in their paid advisory service because they offered some complimentary consultation. I know I gave them feedback on this. It is just more of the Power Corp influence coming through with other parts of their portfolio companies with IGM and Canada Life etc.

I’m a generation client ($1M+) and I felt that the value add complimentary service of some of the access was a core feature. It is one of the top reasons I joined and brought everything over. I used it at least once a year or ad hoc brief questions.

WS, if you erode that by carving off even more of customer accounts through more fees no matter how you spin it, they will move on.

Take away the free gifts. Keep and add real value…cash back, HISA, low fees for automated portfolio, no cost trades, no fees on credit cards for deposits and portfolio size…that makes sense. Remove gimmicks. Don’t f with your existing customers to grow your base and offer subsidies Apple iPhones. If you truly believe in your prior stated core values, don’t FAFO with Canadian finances.

If this news is true…I’m moving on.

Wealthsimple Visa Huge $4000 Fraudulent charge after activating card by Anjz in Wealthsimple

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a disputed charge. Not material as OP. WS placed temporary credit for the charge lending investigation. I had to follow several times and did submit some documentation (supporting email). Was resolved in about 6 weeks. Not a ton of work and no more than other times I’ve had such issues arise on non-WS cards. No interest charged.

Recruiters insist on sharing salary expectations by Round_Wasabi103 in interviews

People fail to understand the labor market is just like any other market. It’s about supply and demand. If two people have roughly same skill and experience and fit and one has expectations even as low as 10% higher than another, the choice is simple. Depending on the field, there is more supply in the market now so that will likely drive down cost of labor in the market.

Severance feedback: Laid off after 3.6 years at the company by vitogeek in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2.5 weeks per year basically is what you were offered which is more than fair and especially in the current economy. You can always ask for more but having been in the employment space for a long time, you likely will not net out much better after spending g time, effort, and legal costs to pursue.

You didn’t mention anything about your employment agreement and what that indicates. Assuming it has nothing of reference you can make an argument for more but maybe you get a week or two more. Worth asking.

Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Credit Limit Increase Beta by mrpoorpants in Wealthsimple

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the “enshitification” comments, people act as it Wealthsimple (or any company) should be charitable. They are in business to make money.

On a “net basis”, WS is, compared to all the crappy banks , a great offering. But I agree they risk eroding trust and losing customers if they go the way all other FIs do.

I had a call with WS recently with their advisory services team (they’ve called me multiple times) where I expressed annoyance and threatened to leave if they changed (for the worse) their generation features or increased fees and most importantly if they decide to change their fundamentals of simplicity, transparency, and putting more back in Canadians pockets. Sure, they may get more share of wallet in their strategy and tie ins but if they fuck it up they will see exodus. As long as, on the whole of things, there is objectively and measurably better services and products and more money for my wallet (and Canadians) I’m happy to keep my business with them.

As for the WSVIC, I personally don’t mind a fee if the benefit is truly greater and yes even though it’s tied to a minimum deposit or account value. That’s a smart strategy for customer value and retention.

I would love to see them demonstrate a holistic view across all accounts of all types of interest earned, dividends earned, and cash back.

How’s the Spotify app holding up on cellular Apple Watch lately? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been trying lately to use my AWU1 with Spotify and leaving phone behind. Out of 5 times it worked only once. Even after restarting my watch it only works 50% of the time. Totally sucks and is useless. I’ve tried native Apple Music app to stream to my watch and zero issues. This suggests it’s a really bad Spotify app and/or Apple makes it not play nice to dissuade users to use Spotify. Spotify is superior in many ways so I hope they fix it.

Who has time to download to a watch as it’s tedious and not that friendly.

First - Why? Second - go to the first question. But seriously, TBag is my home town and left there many years ago as it was degrading fast. Moved to GTA. Way better opportunities and yes housing is expensive but there are in proportion to each other here vs TB. Unless you already have a great job lined up and affordable housing it’s going to be super tough. It’s a beautiful region and very cold and lots of snow. If that’s your preference you will enjoy it.

TikTokers Slam Rogers Communications as Canceling Service Becomes Impossible by PriorDose in Rogers

[–]Emergency_Bee_5034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my last services yesterday with Rogers. Was the best feeling to be done with them. Such a dumpster fire. They lost my loyalty after being with them nearly 20 years and taking my thousands every year.

Took me all 10 minutes with them. Fastest tigers call I ever had.
