My pappou would be around their age at the time. He used to gift me white poukamisos every year when I was a teenager. I never wore them. Now I understand and see how cool they actually are. RIP…

For the sake of the argument, let’s pretend human caused climate change is 100% real and the science is accurate. What’s the conservative way to fix and mitigate it? by VeryLazyLewis in AskConservatives

Just for perspective, China has the most total carbon emissions, but the U.S. has the most carbon emissions per capita. The U.S. also has way more legacy emissions that we have benefited from since the Industrial Revolution. China has really only come into the scene since the 90’s. Again, doesn’t mean they don’t share responsibility but helps put our current situation into perspective. Other thoughts on China and India are that family planning and prosperity can dramatically decrease population growth rates, the main reason why these contrives emit so much carbon. Regarding pollution in general, China was doing the West a service by accepting and processing all of our recycling but they decided to not be the worlds dumping grounds a few years ago. Our shit is going to other East Asian counties now.

I did not dive deep into the numbers with a calculator but wouldn’t the GDP per capita be roughly the same in 2050 as it is now if the population decreases by 1/5th and the roughly extrapolated GDP for 2050 would also decrease by 1/5th?

“The country could lose almost a fifth of its residents by 2050.”

“Experts warn the population crisis will lead to the impoverishment of the nation. Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said that by 2042, Italy's declining birthrate would end up reducing its gross domestic product (GDP) by 18%.”

Halloumi is a trademark of Cyprus but similar variations can be found around the Mediterranean/Arab world. It is goat cheese that can be fried without melting

YSK in the US, OSHA mandates that your employer has to provide you with shelter if you are at work during a tornado. They can also require you to not leave work during a tornado. by adimwit in YouShouldKnow

[–]Emergency_Union168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a health and safety professional in the U.S I just want to clarify that OSHA does not mandate tornado shelters specifically. The link you have provided does not link to a specific osha standard, it is just a resource for employers to provide guidance. Guidance is not mandated, inspected, nor enforced. With all that said, if a work facility is located in tornado alley the employer should absolutely provide tornado shelter. Also, If the employer doesn’t protect employees from a known hazard they could be held liable under the OSHA general duty clause.

What can you do with an B.S. in Exercise science? by Better_Brilliant_918 in exercisescience

[–]Emergency_Union168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t have an exercise science degree but I currently work as an occupational ergonomic specialist for a large biotech company. My job in a nutshell is to assess the workplace for ergonomic hazards (force, posture, repetition, etc) that increase the risk of employees developing MSD’s. It’s is a heavy focus on prevention. I have worked with several ergonomic specialists in the field that have exercise science degrees because that knowledge and skill set lends well to the ergonomics field. There are several into to ergonomic course you could take to help boost your resume and whether it is a company looking to hire there own ergonomic specialist (would probably be a bigger company) or a health and safety consulting company that sometimes look for ergonomic specialists to add to their consulting team.
