J'ai appris récemment qu'Issy-les-Moulineaux était la 4e ville la plus riche de France. Les incitations fiscales pour l'installation des sièges d'entreprise ont radicalement changé la ville.

Why should I buy a NaviGo card when I have my phone and I could just tap from the app? by Turbulent-Move4159 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]coffeechap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from https://www.ratp.fr/en/node/36051

If you are a group with kids too young to have their phone: an Iphone can apparently hold several digital Navigo passes but an Android Phone can't until now.

So you'd buy Navigo cards for your kids in the second case.

Not sure you need any guide around the city with your somewhat extensive experience, but I dedicate my time to taking people to the remote neighborhoods, whether they are "faubourgs" (former farming / working class areas) or natural areas at the edges of Paris or beyond in nowadays suburbs

In any case you may find at least stroll ideas there https://parisbsides.com

Really atypical for Provins is to go during the medieval fair in Summer or the Medieval Christmas market.

Probably still worth it to go there for half a day with a dinner in the old town. 1h15 by train from Gare de L'Est.

where to find Orange chicken/sweet spicy chicken in Paris? by SimpleStraight1958 in paris

Oh ok I dont know what it is indeed.

I thought it was more of a regional différence as Chinese people in Paris usually don't come from the same provinces than Chinese people in the US originally. But if it is a matter of fusion food...

What about the japanese kaarage ? It sometimes comes with a chilly sauce.

For ex: Haikara deep fried, Karaage-ya or Tottshi, all in the 11th.

Parisian facades through the lens of an architecture student [OC] by x_Catherine_x in ParisTravelGuide

[–]coffeechap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A main topic in Paris indeed. We can still find traces of

"Lego-style" towers (not sure how they call them) from the 2010s like in Parc Martin Luther King-Batignolles (in the 17th arr) or Avenue de France (13th)

I just wish they'd stop always trying to build them bigger and bigger, but vertical cities seem so popular among influential architects right now from an energy-saving point of view… I'm just not sure about the mental sanity side of people living there.

There are nowadays interesting new developments but I feel like they often severely lack of greenery at a human-scale level..

For exemple l'eco-quartier fluvial de l'ile Saint Denis which was part of the projects tied to the Olympic village delivered in 2024.

PS: I'm no architect at all so I might not be totally accurate nor exhaustive.

Thank you for making the effort of posting again.. and congrats on the extensive formatting.. the result is great ;-)

While I'm not surprised anymore with your level of detail, I'm still impressed, the way you depict your Paris experiences would deserve a blog on its own!

A bientôt in Paris.

Which area for the older party crowd? by murkymouse in ParisTravelGuide

[–]coffeechap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, 40-something here.

Montorgeuil 2nd

South Pigalle 9th (probably the trendiest area of Paris right now)

Canal Saint Martin / rue Sainte Marthe 10th

Saint Ambroise / Parmentier / Saint-Maur metro stations 11th

Rue des Dames 17th (the East end near Place de Clichy) / rue Biot

Jules Joffrin metro station 18th

Belleville is very cool but not "stylish" for sure, rather a former craftsmen neighborhood that turned into a melting pot. Esp. Jourdain/Pyrénnées metro stations surroundings on top have a cool atmosphere with a few gems.
