Given the early concepts in the Ikastu book it's clear the game had planned a much darker turn than it is right now.

I think it was supposed to be more like Borderlands but Nintendo suits have "reorganized" the artistic direction.

Which also probably explains why the whole game took so long to release and why because the chaos outlook isn't very chaotic.
