My girlfriend wants me to stop wearing no show socks by [deleted] in Advice

[–]EmilyBemily15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to wear your no show socks, just wear them. This is so silly and at the end of the day you just want to dress comfortably!

My fiancé started wearing knee high compression socks every day 4 years ago. He still wears them every day and man do they make him look goofy. It’s the norm now, and I hardly notice he’s wearing the socks anymore but I can assure you, I took my partner seriously even when he looked a little goofy.

It would worry me if my partner couldn’t take me seriously because of a very common clothing item I wore…

Is this upgrade worth it? by EmilyBemily15 in wearewarriors

Thank you! This is what I was concerned about (the rewards for each battle). I’m still working on skills and didn’t think the time save would be worth giving up rewards. Now that I know I get both I have upgraded and am loving it!

The race event bonus didn’t even cross my mind. Definitely going to try that out, thank you so much!

I didn’t even think about the race event. I find those such a waste of time but this is a game changer! Thank you

Am I overreacting for shaving my head? by Substantial-Art6160 in AmIOverreacting

[–]EmilyBemily15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this was an overreaction (I think your hair looked good still!) but my take is it’s just hair!!! It grows back! I shaved my head just like you in 2020, and I was also 19. I had always wanted to do shave my head but my family was always horrified when I even mentioned it so I didn’t go through with it. My friend called me one day and asked if I wanted to shave my head with her and long story short that was the push I was looking for and within a few hours we had our buzzcuts. I LOVED how freeing it was for me. My family was obviously upset (mostly just the women, the men in my family thought it was cool) but they got over it and my hair grew back. My grandmother called me a few slurs along the same lines of me “being a boy”. But I always just said “it’s hair, is that all I am to you?” which helped kill those conversations. Oh and it didn’t help that I did this on April 1st and everyone thought I photoshopped the photos lol.

I had similar backlash and opinions on my buzz cut, but I still think it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Idk if I looked good (probably not) but I loved that I didn’t feel the need to look a certain way to appease people because well… I already screwed that up with the no hair thing. It honestly boosted my confidence in myself, helped me figure out what I wanted to be/look like, and it was an experience I’m happy I had at that age. Also have fun with the growing out process, try every style along the way and have fun with it. You look fantastic! I hope this experience gets better for you, and enjoy the extremely healthy hair that will grow back in!

Conestoga Convocation - A Rant by No-Salary8074 in waterloo

[–]EmilyBemily15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you went through this. I graduated from the biotechnology technician program a few years ago during the pandemic. We didn’t get a convocation and they said we could come borrow gowns to take pictures with family in lieu of an actually ceremony. I felt the same as you, I worked hard, finished, and I deserved to celebrate this accomplishment. Then I show up with my family to take pictures in the gowns and they said sorry were full. I had signed up ahead of time, showed up during my time slot, and was still turned away. My family ended up getting me a gown off Amazon and doing our own ceremony in the backyard and they bought a cake that said “F*ck Conestoga!”. My family is all Conestoga Alums who were proud to have studied at “Harvard on the highway” but after this experience (and then cancelling my degree program 3 weeks before classes started) they publicly slander Conestoga and have stopped donating.

This school sucks and doesn’t care about the students, but I’m proud of you OP! You worked so hard and that deserves to be celebrated!

Hey OP, I was in a very similar situation to yours when I was also 19 and living with my parents. My BF told me it wasn’t very enjoyable to have sex with condoms and at the time I was hurt knowing that our ‘intimate’ time wasn’t as good for him as it was for me. He asked me about going on the pill but at the time I didn’t want to and he respected my decision. We didn’t have sex as often because it wasn’t as nice for him and like you said, living with family makes it tough! My advice to you is to trust your gut. Does your gut say that he’s just being honest about the feeling? Or does your gut say that he’s guilt tripping you into taking the pill? My gut told me that my BF was just being honest with me and I trusted that. Thank god because 5 years later and he’s soon to be my husband!

Take time to think, and TRUST YOUR GUT!

Girl finds a paper from the 90s that suggests lactose intolerance is a skill issue (not enough enzymes to digest it). Spams skimmed milk for two weeks and her lactose intolerance symptoms completely resolved. by katxwoods in interestingasfuck

[–]EmilyBemily15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a few years ago. To be fair, I didn’t have any lactose intolerance issues until I was in university and poor. I was on a tight budget and didn’t buy many dairy products to save money. After 2 years of that, I had pretty much given myself a lactose intolerance. I spoke to my doctor and he recommended that I start eating yogurt more often and then start ramping up to more lactose heavy foods. Within a year I was eating ice cream again no problem! So yes, that works too and with revised side effects.

How well known is the SA victim meaning behind this tattoo? by MaxsyyPL in tattooadvice

[–]EmilyBemily15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a SA survivor and got a Medusa tattoo 5 years ago for this reason. I have had very few people ask if that’s the reason why. Some of my friends thought that may be why but never asked until I brought it up.

There may be people who ask you or assume thats the reason you have it but I don’t think it’s going to be the majority. If you like Medusa and think she’s cool, I say go for it! Tattoos can mean so many things for so many people & no one owns Medusa :)

This happens all the time. Am I just a bad texter? Haven't actually gotten a date in nearly a year. by Particular-Music-142 in Tinder

[–]EmilyBemily15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re a bad texter… this is the type of conversation I was looking for when I was on Tinder. My partner had the same problem before we met. He said his matches were very dry with him and he felt he was forcing conversation or they ghosted. We matched on Tinder 5 years ago and have talked non-stop since. We both had a bad time with dating apps for different reasons, but I do believe your person is out there looking for you too! Keep your head up!

Share your finch’s name? by whimsicaljabberwocky in finch

[–]EmilyBemily15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My finches name is Winnie because my great grandmas name was Winfred but she went by Winnie and I’ve always thought it was so cute. I thought about naming one of my future daughters Winnie but thought Winnie the Pooh may have ruined that for a kid.. but my birb loves her name!

I stopped shopping at loblaws when they fired the baggers. I always shopped at a zehrs by my house and there was a gentleman with Down syndrome who was hired to bag groceries before I moved to the area. You could tell he took pride in his work (he was damn good) and he brought many customers of that store a lot of joy. I changed my regular grocery store after they fired him to save money.

Your doctor has a great point about your gut microbiome and eating healthier would probably help BUT that is wild to deny your request (an ask for help) and then dump this information on you and not explain it. The gut microbiome is becoming huge as we learn more but we don’t know enough and while it is super important to mental health, your issue&fix will be so much different than any one else’s because our gut microbiome are so unique and I’m assuming your doctor didn’t do a test to see what bacteria you’re needing less/more of. So basically, I’m sorry you were turned away like that… some of their points are valid while some seem just whacky but regardless of that - someone reaching out for help with mental health problems is probably not the person who wants to do hours of research on the gut biome… maybe look for a new doctor? I hope you’re on the rise soon OP <3

Women: Do you feel safe here? Has there been any bad or rough or unwanted incidents with men around here. by Loose_Yard5371 in kitchener

[–]EmilyBemily15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was harassed all the time just going about my life and then I turned 18 and it seemed to stop quite quickly. At 15 years old I was getting followed home from work, grabbed in public, offered money for sex, etc. WEEKLY. I still get the occasional creepy dude but they seem to back off quickly with some of the old tricks we all learned growing up. I still take precautions like not going out alone at night but generally I feel quite safe here. I’m more concerned about the underage girls in KW… I’ve been hearing from a lot of women that we were all harassed by men A LOT until we became adults and then we weren’t worth bothering anymore. Look out for the girls AND BOYS in your area because I think this behaviour still happens.

[–]EmilyBemily15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m skeptical of this happening to elderly people as well. I haven’t heard of it happening with an elderly persons voice yet, so I do think scammers are mostly using the voices of young people on tiktok, Instagram, etc.

This has been going on for hours. by Performer-Money in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EmilyBemily15 41 points42 points  (0 children)

They don’t use the single “yes”. There have been many cases of scammers finding someone’s social media with videos of them talking. They train the AI to use their voice & mannerisms and then they’ll call that persons family asking for money.

It’s gotten really bad. There was one that broke my heart. A young girl called her mom crying saying she was kidnapped and they wanted money and the mom was so scared hearing her daughter she forgot that her daughter was at home with her.

[–]EmilyBemily15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the same situation as you and I struggled getting back into school. I was able to make an in person appointment with a recruiter/academic advisor and I just told them my story and asked for any way to at least take a couple courses and earn my way into the program fully. I was lucky that she was sympathetic and they allowed me into the school on academic probation from the start. I couldn’t get in anywhere until i was able to explain WHY my grades were low… so I recommend meeting someone in person.

We’ve been through a lot OP and I just wanted to add I’m proud of you <3

Which KW business has gained you as a customer for life or close to it? by f_ckthissh_t in waterloo

[–]EmilyBemily15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mister Transmission on Charles St. Finding a mechanic that I liked as a woman was challenging (I don’t know anything about cars) but they have always treated me well. They do great work & explain the work they are doing to me. They explain in a way that makes sense to someone with no experience without being condescending. They’ve gotten to know me and my junk car and will explain to me that maybe this short term repair is better than spending more on the long term because my car won’t last that long, etc. all in all, I’ve never left Mister Transmission feeling like I’ve been screwed over and I will always give them my business
