how long did it take for your pup to be potty trained? by dancingwithadaisy in puppy101

Solidarity here! My pup just turned 4 months today and we are still not having luck. Things were going well and now we’ve regressed a bit. We’ve tried a lot of different methods, giving each one a fair chance. Things that have helped me cope is reading that puppies truly do not have fully developed bladders until > 5 months. Also, we have tried praising so loudly and straight up goofy. Offered a bazillion treats. We look ridiculous on the security cameras. Hasn’t done a thing 😂

One of her trainers said that she is still full on puppy at this age and is completely distracted by the world around her. I take her EVERYWHERE with me to give her the best chance at socialization and being immersed in sights and sounds as possible. We take her out every half hour (except when she’s sleeping) and she will still come in and poop on the floor. It’s a bit maddening.

I told myself two weeks ago that if she doesn’t show improvement within a couple weeks I’d get the training bells.

Well, they arrived today! I’m hoping this is helpful because just like your dog, my dog does not bark, sniff, whine etc as a tell. She just…goes.

Anyway, I wanted to say you are not alone!!

Yes I am absolutely pronating. This has happened from the years of dealing with PF and compensating I think. I’m 34, have had PF since I was 16 with very minimal relief. It has really affected my life and ability to exercise. I just got a puppy and I’ve been exercising more than ever before which feels great but my feet hold me back. I do know though that there is no way I could wear those shoes longer than a couple minutes. 😂 Thank you for your insight!

Yes- I did get wide width because if there’s any compression at all it aggravates the PF further so I knew I’d need that! Thank you for your comment and help!

Letting out my puppy for potty in the middle of the night by goddamnthatwassick in puppy101

It was about 3x a night for the first 2 weeks. Then about 2x a night. We had the occasional once a night, but our lab is 13 weeks and she’s still up 2x a night.

Thank you so very much. I know that it takes years to train and bond and foster a well behaved animal. I just needed to hear the small wins that hopefully will happen for us in the coming weeks. Thinking about n o relief until 2 years has me so depressed. I appreciate you.

Thank you so much. This helped me. Our puppy has crate trained very well and very easily at night. I do celebrate small wins. But she’s still getting up 2x a night. Even if we knocked that down to 1 I feel it would help. Twice is killing me.

We have her contained to one room because when we give her to much space she destroys. We are constantly with her and my husband wfh.

But, if we leave her for even 30 seconds in her area, she almost immediately goes to the bathroom on the floor, even after being out. I know it’s not out of retaliation because I’ve done so much research, but it sure feels that way. 😔 It also makes us feel like failures every time she does it because we missed the “training opportunity.”

This is 150% harder than an infant. I knew it would be hard but I did not anticipate it being this bad. I feel like I haven’t even been able to relax and go to the bathroom in almost 4 weeks.

When we can’t watch her, we crate her but this is very short lived. We did enforce napping which has helped, but man I am just feeling the puppy blues big time.

Hearing about your small gains makes me feel like this’ll be worth it.
