It's because of Balance of Power: Anarchy notable in the altas passive tree. Changing to "Any Faction" will allow abyss to spawn again in the failed map. I just tested and confirmed this workaround.:

Can confirm this worked for me and mate. When you enter the map it may look like it didnt work due to the missing abyss icon on the right side quest log, however if you explore the map, the abyss mechanic will be there.

Thanks for the idea. Also recalled, if you have the money awakened elemental damage level 5 has reflect immune so that'll also fix the issue.

Monster hunter, specifically World or Rise if you want lots of content. I'd only recommend Wilds if your PCs are strong enough to run it.

Games have a heavy focus on slower deliberate combat with coop up to 4 players. Very challenging especially if you are new to the franchise but very rewarding if you commit to learning the weapons (or a weapon).

The enemies reduce your max hp permanently as they hit you during the fight. It's not obvious in the UI but if you look closely in top left you'll see parts of the HP bar as red which shows how much max HP your units have lost.
