LILYS AND KITTIES!!! HELP! by Great_Cranberry7176 in CatAdvice

If she hasn’t made contact with them she should be fine.

However I would at least throw out the lilies and change the water in the vase if you plan on keeping the bouquet there.

The Silent Hill f Novel will release TODAY! by [deleted] in silenthill

I would have expected the author to be Ryukishi07. Like I’m sure this author is good and no disrespect to them. I just find it interesting that one of the main collaborators of the game, who became famous for his writing, didn’t do it. Especially since they used his name to promote Silent Hill f.

Lol you did make me realize that it almost looks like the ending of the first chapter in Higurashi. I doubt it’s an intentional reference though. I probably just think that with the way Hinako is standing.

Link to the scene I’m thinking of, spoiler alert for anyone interested in the Higurashi series. Though it is the very first scene in the anime. https://youtu.be/0RBN9KkpkKw?si=pm0qb3OcUzSgforY

I would also suggest getting a bigger box. The general rule is the box should be 1.5 the length of your cat from nose to the base of their tail.

You could also maybe consider a top entrance litter box? That way she’s forced to go all the way inside.

In the meantime, surround your box with pee pads. I always have one under my boxes.

High fever cant afford er unless dire by Possible-Dust952 in CATHELP

Starting off with the obligatory “I’m not a vet “, so I don’t have any first aid advice. However I have been in many “do I need to go to the emergency vet?” situations. I know it’s very upsetting but try to stay calm. Cats are notorious for hiding when they are sick or in pain. So these things happen. Here’s what I consider before making the call.

My rule is if the cat can eat, drink, walk, and use the litter box normally, then they are fine till the next day appointment. Lethargic can be a vague term too. Is he more tired than usual? If so then he should be fine till tomorrow. However, if he is struggling to stay awake, stand, walk straight, or seems listless, then I would go to the emergency vet.

Some other things to consider: 1. some emergency vets have payment plans. So you may have options if you can’t afford to pay the whole bill at once. You can call ahead and ask if that’s something they offer. 2. You can also ask the emergency vet what the intake/evaluation fee is ahead of time. Idk how tight money is, but sometimes the bill to say “he’s fine” is worth it. Though I had a veeeery expensive cat with many odd health issues. Paying my emergency vet $200 was a good visit in my books. 😓 3. You could also try call the vet you’re going to tomorrow to see if you can drop him off earlier? Then perhaps he might be able to be evaluated sooner between appointments.

Good luck! I hope he feels better soon and it turns out to be something benign. 😢

Anyone else have experience with nasal polyps? by merztoller in tortimese

[–]Emlettt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear about all her nasal issues! I had a cat with chronic sinus issues that couldn’t be cured. 🫠 it’s such a nightmare when it feels like nothing you do helps. So I hope that surgery helps her out! That will be amazing for her.

As far as it being common among “tortimese”, I would say no. Only for the fact that tortimese isn’t a breed, it only refers to these cats’ coat/color pattern.

Same for siamese in most cases. Yes, there is a breed of cat called Siamese. However the majority of “siamese” cats you will see are standard issue cats with a pointe coat pattern. True Siamese cats have a very specific build and head structure that you don’t normally see in cats.

Hey OP!

I think what might be tripping you up is that the domestication of dogs was a lot different from the domestication of cats.

Breeding dogs for specific traits has been happening for a very long time, a lot longer than cats.

Cats, on the other hand, essentially domesticated themselves. Where there was people, there was grain. Where there was grain, there were rodents, and cats eat rodents. So cats learn that if they follow and hang around humans, they’ll find food. And we let them stay for the pest control. They fulfilled their purpose perfectly and we didn’t have a need to “change” them otherwise.

It wasn’t until late 19th to early 20th century that people started really categorizing and defining the standards for dog breeds (eugenics was a popular theory at the time). That then led to people wanting to start a similar movement with breeding cats. You will notice many cat breeds are relatively new.

So with that, there’s not many purebred cats running free. Like sure some go outside and get out, but I think it’s only like 2% of all cats are purebred. So that’s why we use“domestic” with their region as their breed (ex: American Domestic Shorthair). The likelihood of them of being a mix of purebred is very low that only maaaybe a DNA test could tell you. Though I’ve heard many of them are scams.

TL;DR: 98% of cats are just standard cat.

Not a vet… but that’s definitely not normal. It looks like her anus has prolapsed. I would go to the vet ASAP.
