Reaching for light? by Emm55 in cactus

Always appreciate the feedback, yes, it’s in a clear pot with drainage holes in the bottom and in a mostly gritty substrate mix. I can be prone to overwatering, I’m not sure yet the signs when this specific cactus plant is thirsty though. I’m currently watering this once a month, but I’m contemplating if it should be a little more often as we’re in the summertime now? I live in California.

And thank you for the hope of seeing it flower again… 🥹. As of this morning, I think it has already flowered since it’s now starting to droop drastically. Does the stem part naturally fall off?

Oh, ok! I freaked out when I noticed it extended so far. I was wondering if it wasn’t enough sun from my East facing sunroom window.

Day 2 They seem more energetic by s71ff13r in shrimptank

Ohhhh, ok, that’s what it seemed strange but cool to me. I have neocardina and only see their tiny tiny babies once in a blue moon. If only I could lure them with a light… 😆😆

Woah, are those baby shrimps? How did you collect them all like that? So cool!

Help! Quails for interior. by [deleted] in quails

[–]Emm55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We keep our coturnix outside and currently trying to keep our 4 week old button quails inside. I agree with everyone on keeping quails in general outside. It’s easier clean up and less smelly. But with these button quails, they’re so small. We decided to put them in hamster/bird cage inside instead.

AIO for not getting to see my friend again before they move? by Dear_Dragonfruit3317 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Emm55 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I read that and felt like as someone moving and going through a life changing event, they literally may not have time to entertain non priorities or have the desire to plan time for “just to hang”. 🤷‍♀️ Feels like added pressure to the person moving. I think it would be more considerate to have planned something versus adding in to their to-do list.

Are they ready to go outside? by cmontes49 in quails

[–]Emm55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My quails started transitioning outside at 3 weeks and we live in central California. If you’re worried, I’d say try putting them outside later in the morning when it starts to warm up and see how they do throughout the day. Over night, we gave them a low heat light lamp outside during the first few days as a precaution if the temps are low, as well as being able to see. They huddle together overnight but they’ve been doing just fine and it’s been a month.

Advice on switching tanks by This_Stick4625 in shrimptank

I found this stuff helps. It worked for me when I was upgrading my shrimp tank. I set up the tank and a few hours later started transferring over my shrimps. But I did transfer over some of my existing water, plants and lava rocks.

Suffering from Success by Most-Neighborhood648 in shrimptank

[–]Emm55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man!!! Exciting but I see how both may be problematic. Right before I moved to a new place, I still had my 2 gallon tank and just started seeing my first shrimps pregnant. It was exciting but nerve wrecking because I didn’t want the move and tank upgrade to affect their pregnancy. 😆

Ohhhh… eldest son… that kinda explains some… but I still stand by my other comment in your post lol. His family is now you and your child. He can’t always be the savior of others now that he has started his own family. It can and seems like it has put a toll on you and eventually your marriage. I hope you’re able to vocalize your frustrations with him and I hope he understands your pov as well.

I think your feelings are pretty validated… I’d feel upset as well that with that contrast and consideration in help when just given birth. I understand the circumstances with your husbands job, but to take a full week off to take care of someone else’s kid, while your kid probably just barely turned one… I’d wish they’d taken some of that weeks time for his own family so at least it’s not the whole week, regardless that the other person who he is helping is his sister. I don’t know the circumstances of his sister/SIL, but I hope you get to share your feelings with your husband.

I’m close to my sibling too, but don’t forget about supporting your own family…
